Με μοναδικό στόχο τη νίκη, που θα της επιτρέψει να διατηρήσει ακέραιες τις πιθανότητες πρόκρισης στις 16 καλύτερες ομάδες της διοργάνωσης, η Εθνική Ελλάδας θα αντιμετωπίσει το αντίστοιχο συγκρότημα της Ιαπωνίας τα ξημερώματα της Παρασκευής (01:00 ώρα Ελλάδας – 8:00 ώρα Αυστραλίας).
Ο αγώνας θα διεξαχθεί στο «Εστάντιο ντας Ντούνας» του Νατάλ, στο πλαίσιο της 2ης αγωνιστικής στον 3ο όμιλο.Το αντιπροσωπευτικό συγκρότημα μετρά μόλις έναν αγώνα με τους «μπλε σαμουράι» κατά το παρελθόν, ο οποίος κατά σύμπτωση είχε διεξαχθεί επίσης στις 19 Ιουνίου, αλλά το 2005, στο πλαίσιο του Κυπέλλου Συνομοσπονδιών.
«Χειρόφρενο» στους Ιάπωνες
Το κλίμα στις τάξεις της Εθνικής δεν είναι και το καλύτερο δυνατό μετά το περιστατικό και την ένταση που προκλήθηκε ανάμεσα στους Γιάννη Μανιάτη και Γιώργο Τζαβέλλα, όμως όλα αυτά παραμερίζονται προς χάριν του κοινού σκοπού, που είναι η νίκη.
Η Ιαπωνία είναι ένα εξαιρετικά ομοιογενές σύνολο, που έχει όπλο την μεγάλη ταχύτητα και τον αυτοματισμό στο παιχνίδι της. Μειονέκτημα, από την άλλη, είναι τα μέτρια ύψη των Γιαπωνέζων, στοιχείο που είναι βέβαιο ότι θα θελήσουν να εκμεταλλευτούν οι διεθνείς στις «στημένες μπάλες».
Οι παίκτες του Φερνάντο Σάντος, πάντως, αύριο θα πρέπει να τρέξουν πολύ και να μην αφήσουν ακάλυπτους χώρους στους «υπερηχητικούς» Ασιάτες του Αλμπέρτο Τζακερόνι.
Διαιτητής θα είναι ο 38χρονος Τζόελ Αγκιλάρ από το Ελ Σαλβαδόρ, ο οποίος διηύθυνε την αναμέτρηση της Αργεντινής με τη Βοσνία/Ερζεγοβίνη στο «Μαρακανά» για την πρεμιέρα του 6ου ομίλου.

Greece are hoping to bounce back from a heavy 3-0 defeat by the South Americans and manager Fernando Santos is expected to make quite a few changes in the starting line-up. Fulham record-singing striker Kostas Mitroglou will be starting instead of former Bayer Leverkusen man Fanis Gekas up front and Genoa winger Giannis Fetfatzidis is probably replacing Dimitris Salpingidis on the wings.
The National needs to put its rock-solid defence back together which raises questions as to whether German-born left-back Jose Holebas will be starting – if not, he will be replaced by Giorgos Tzavellas. Japan fell short against Ivory Coast last week and will be relying heavily on speed to break the Greek defence, just like Colombia did. Η Εθνική ολοκλήρωσε την προετοιμασία της στο Αρακαζού της Βραζιλίας και χθες Τετάρτη αναχώρησε για το Νατάλ όπου αύριο Παρασκευή πρωί (8:00) αντιμετωπίζει την Ιαπωνία. Δοκιμές από τον Σάντος και τετ α τετ με παίκτες.
Υπό καταρρακτώδη βροχή διεξήχθη η τελευταία προπόνηση στο Αρακαζού της Βραζιλίας, η οποία ήταν για περίπου ένα τέταρτο ανοιχτή. Ο Σάντος ήθελε να κάνει δοκιμές σε τακτική και 11άδα και έδιωξε νωρίτερα τους δημοσιογράφους ώστε να αρχίσει γρήγορα τη δουλειά με τους διεθνείς.
Ο Πορτογάλος έβαλε πολλές φορές τις φωνές στους παίκτες του ενώ τους έκανε και παρατηρήσεις προκειμένου να τους φέρει στα όριά τους και να θίξει τον ποδοσφαιρικό εγωισμό τους. Ο Πορτογάλος τεχνικός πιστεύει πολύ στην πρόκριση και θέλει να μεταφέρει και στους ποδοσφαιριστές του την πίστη του και την αισιοδοξία του ενόψει του κρίσιμου αγώνα με την Ιαπωνία.
Ο ομοσπονδιακός τεχνικός είχε πολλά τετ α τετ με τον Γιώργο Καραγκούνη, ο οποίος δείχνει σε όλες του τις κινήσεις ανεβασμένος και ανυπόμονος. Σε αυτό το ματς ο Σάντος δεν αποκλείεται να να τον ξεκινήσει στην αρχική ενδεκάδα καθώς βλέπει την ώθηση που δίνει στην ομάδα αγωνιστικά και ψυχολογικά.
Στο διπλό ο Πορτογάλος δοκίμασε στην αρχή τη βασική 11άδα που παρέταξε κόντρα στην Κολομβία και μετά έκανε πολλές αλλαγές. Κάποια στιγμή έβαλε τους Μήτρογλου και Φετφατζίδη με τους βασικούς, με τον πρώτο να συγκεντρώνει πολλές πιθανότητες να βρίσκεται στο αρχικό σχήμα, ενώ σε άλλη δοκιμή πέρασε με τους βασικούς και ο Σάμαρης μαζί με τον Κονέ και τον Μανιάτη στη μεσαία γραμμή. Ο Γλύκος επέστρεψε στις προπονήσεις μετά την ταλαιπωρία που υπέστη με τη φλεγμονή στο μάτι του.
Ουσιαστικά η προπόνηση της Τρίτης ήταν η πιο κρίσιμη για την11αδα, καθώς ο Σάντος έχει δείξει ότι την παραμονή κάθε αγώνα οι προπονήσεις έχουν χαρακτήρα αποφόρτισης και όχι δοκιμών.
Η τελευταία δημοσκόπηση της Newspoll, καταγράφει μικρές αυξομειώσεις της ψήφου του Συνασπισμού και του Εργατικού Κόμματος στην πρώτη κατανομή.
Επιζήμιος, πολιτικά, για τα κόμματα εξουσίας ο προϋπολογισμός της κυβέρνησης Abbott για το νέο οικονομικό έτος. Καθώς ο λαός εμπεδώνει τα σκληρά μέτρα του προϋπολογισμού που πλήττουν καίρια τις κατώτερες κοινωνικές τάξεις και διαπιστώνει, παράλληλα, την έλλειψη εναλλακτικών προτάσεων από την αξιωματική αντιπολίτευση, η ψήφος των κομμάτων εξουσίας και η δημοτικότητα των αρχηγών τους ανεβοκατεβαίνει σαν ασανσέρ.
Η τελευταία δημοσκόπηση της Newspoll για την εφημερίδα «The Australian», καταγράφει μικρές αυξομειώσεις της ψήφου του Συνασπισμού και του Εργατικού Κόμματος στην πρώτη κατανομή, αλλά σταθερή προήγηση των Εργατικών στη δεύτερη κατανομή – μετά τη διανομή των δεύτερων προτιμήσεων των ψηφοφόρων των άλλων κομμάτων.
Το αξιόλογο στοιχείο της δημοσκόπησης είναι, ότι ένα μήνα μετά την κατάθεση του προϋπολογισμού, ο πρωθυπουργός, Tony Abbott, και ο αρχηγός της αντιπολίτευσης, Bill Shorten, δεν έχουν καταφέρει, ο πρώτος, να πείσει το λαό ότι ο σκληρός προϋπολογισμός είναι «δίκαιος» και, ο δεύτερος, ότι ο προϋπολογισμός «σφάζει» τους μη έχοντες.
Η ψήφος του Συνασπισμού στην πρώτη κατανομή ανέβηκε μία ποσοστιαία μονάδα στο 37%, ενώ του Εργατικού Κόμματος έπεσε κατά μία μονάδα στο 36% και των Πρασίνων κατά δύο μονάδες στο 10%. Τις απώλειες των Πρασίνων καρπώθηκαν τα μικρά κόμματα η ψήφος των οποίων ανέβηκε κατά δύο μονάδες σε 17%.
Όμως, αν γίνονταν εθνικές εκλογές το περασμένο Σαββατοκύριακο το Εργατικό Κόμμα θα επέστρεφε στην εξουσία με 53% των ψήφων, έναντι 47% του Συνασπισμού.
Οι επιτελικοί του Συνασπισμού ανησυχούν έντονα και για τη συνεχή πτώση της δημοτικότητας του Tony Abbott. Δύο στους τρεις ψηφοφόρους δηλώνουν «δυσαρεστημένοι» από το έργο του πρωθυπουργού, αναλογία που πιστοποιεί την αδυναμία του πρωθυπουργού να πείσει το εκλογικό σώμα για τις προθέσεις του. Από τους ερωτηθέντες ψηφοφόρους 61% δηλώνουν δυσαρεστημένοι από το έργο του πρωθυπουργού, 30% «ικανοποιημένοι» και 9% «δεν γνωρίζουν/δεν ξέρουν».
Ανησυχητικοί και για τους επιτελικούς του Εργατικού Κόμματος η κλιμακωτή αύξηση του ποσοστού των ψηφοφόρων, που αποδοκιμάζουν το έργο του κ. Shorten. Από τους ερωτηθέντες ψηφοφόρους 45% αποδοκιμάζουν το έργο του αρχηγού της αξιωματικής αντιπολίτευσης, 34% δηλώνουν «ικανοποιημένοι» και 21% «δεν γνωρίζουν/δεν ξέρουν».
Όμως, ο κ. Shorten παραμένει «προτιμητέος» πρωθυπουργός με 40% των προτιμήσεων των ψηφοφόρων, έναντι 37% του Tony Abbott, ενώ 23% δεν έχουν άποψη.
Ματς διαφήμιση το Αυστραλία – Ολλανδία, με τους “Oranje” να επικρατούν με 3-2, κάνοντας ανατροπή στην ανατροπή. Τραυματισμός Μάρτινς Ίντι, τιμωρία για Φαν Πέρσι & Κέιχιλ.
Η Ολλανδία έγινε η πρώτη ομάδα στο Μουντιάλ 2014 που κάνει το “δύο στα δύο”, καθώς επικράτησε με 3-2 της Αυστραλίας, σε ένα συναρπαστικό ματς με ανατροπή… στην ανατροπή.
Λίγο αργότερα οι “Oranje” προκρίθηκαν μαζί με την Χιλή (νίκησε την Ισπανία) και παίζουν τελευταία αγωνιστική για κορυφή (ισοπαλία εννοεί τους Ολλανδούς), ενώ η Αυστραλία μαζί με την Ισπανία αποκλείστηκαν.
Άριεν Ρόμπεν και Ρόμπιν Φαν Πέρσι σκόραραν για 3η φορά στην διοργάνωση, αλλά κορυφαίος του ματς ήταν ο Μέμφις Ντεπάι που ήρθε από τον πάγκο λόγω του τραυματισμού του Μπρούνο Μάρτινις Ίντι, καθώς πέτυχε το νικητήριο γκολ και είχε δημιουργήσει το 2-2.
Ο Τιμ Κέιχιλ σκόραρε και στο 2ο ματς και μάλιστα με τρομερό βολέ στην κίνηση, αλλά όπως ο Φαν Πέρσι πήρε κάρτα και χάνει την 3η αγωνιστική.
Μετά από 19 αναγνωριστικά λεπτά με ματς κέντρου, δίχως φάσεις, ο αγώνας στο “Μπέιρα-Ρίο” πήρε… φωτιά με δύο εξαιρετικά γκολ σε ισάριθμα λεπτά.
Ο Άριεν Ρόμπεν άνοιξε λοιπόν το σκορ στο 20′ με τρομερή ατομική ενέργεια, απέφυγε τον Γουίλκινσον στο κέντρο και δεν κατάφερε να πιάσει κανείς μέχρι την περιοχή, όπου μπήκε, πλάσαρε με το αριστερό τον Ράιαν και τον νίκησε για το 0-1, με το τρίτο του γκολ στην διοργάνωση.
Αμέσως μετά την σέντρα λοιπόν, έπειτα από μπαλιά του ΜακΓκάουαν από δεξιά, ο Τιμ Κέιχιλ έπιασε ένα καταπληκτικό αριστερό σουτ στην κίνηση και έστειλε την μπάλα στα δίχτυα του ανήμπορου να αντιδράσει, Σίλεσεν, ισοφαρίζοντας σε 1-1 στο 21′.
Δεύτερο γκολ σε δύο ματς για τον Τιμ Κέιχιλ, ο οποίος όμως δεν θα αγωνιστεί στο ματς με την Ισπανία, καθώς συμπλήρωσε δύο κίτρινες κάρτες με αυτήν που πήρε στο 43′. Έκανε σκληρό φάουλ στον Μπρούνο Μάρτινς Ίντι, ο οποίος αποχώρησε με φορείο και αντικαταστάθηκε.
Το ματς της τρίτης αγωνιστικής χάνει και για την Ολλανδία ο Ρόμπιν φαν Πέρσι, καθώς στο 47′ πήρε και αυτός δεύτερη κίτρινη στην διοργάνωση για αγκωνιά στον Σπιράνοβιτς.
Στο 50′ ο Ράιαν έκανε εντυπωσιακή απόκρουση σε σουτ του Σνάιντερ, στο 51′ μπήκε στο ματς ο Μπόζανιτς και στο 53′ κέρδισε πέναλτι, καθώς μετά από σέντρα του η μπάλα χτύπησε στο χέρι του Γιάνμαατ. Ο Τζέντινακ εκτέλεσε το πέναλτι και ολοκλήρωσε την ανατροπή για την Αυστραλία στο 54′.
Τέσσερα λεπτά αργότερα ο Φαν Πέρσι ισοφάρισε σε 2-2 με κοντινό πλασέ έπειτα από εντυπωσιακή προσπάθεια και ασίστ του Μέμφις Ντεπάι, ο οποίος στο 68′ με φοβερό σουτ εκτός περιοχής (φταίει λίγο και οι Ράιαν) ολοκλήρωσε την ανατροπή… στην ανατροπή, κάνοντας το 2-3.
Ο νεαρός εξτρέμ της Αϊντχόφεν είχε περάσει στο ματς αντί του Μάρτινς Ίντι, με το σύστημα από 5-3-2 να γίνεται 4-3-3, με εξτρέμ τον Ρόμπεν δεξιά και τον Ντεπάι αριστερά (κορυφή ο Φαν Πέρσι).
Ένα λεπτό πριν το γκολ του Ντεπάι η Αυστραλία είχε χάσει μεγάλη ευκαιρία με τον Όαρ να βρίσκεται σε θέση βολής, αλλά αντί σουτ ή κεφαλιά προσπάθησε να σκοράρει με το στήθος!
Η φάση του αγώνα
Ο Τιμ Κέιχιλ έβαλε ένα καταπληκτικό, ίσως το καλύτερο του Μουντιάλ μαζί με αυτό του Φαν Πέρσι με την Ισπανία, όμως δεν είναι αυτή η φάση του αγώνα. Ο ίδιος όμως είναι πρωταγωνιστής σε αυτήν, η οποία είναι το φάουλ του στον Μπρούνο Μάρτινς Ίντι. Από την μία ο Κέιχιλ πήρε κίτρινη και χάνει το επόμενο ματς, από την άλλη ο Μάρτινς Ίντι έπεσε άσχημα στο έδαφος και έφυγε με φορείο σχεδόν αναίσθητος.
Ο διαιτητής
Καλή η διαιτησία του Αλγερινού, Τζαμέλ Χαϊμουντί, αλλά με δύο περιπτώσεις που σηκώνουν συζήτηση. Στο πέναλτι των Αυστραλών υπάρχει χέρι του Γιάνμαατ, σίγουρα δεν το ήθελε, αλλά δεν ήταν κολλημένο στο σώμα και σίγουρα επηρεάζει την φάση, ενώ έπρεπε στο 2ο ημίχρονο να έχει δώσει 2η κίτρινη κάρτα τον Φαν Πέρσι για σκληρό μαρκάρισμα.
Ο πολυτιμότερος παίκτης της αναμέτρησης
Ο 20άχρονος εξτρέμ της Αϊντχόφεν, Μέμφις Ντεπάι, μπήκε στο ματς στις καθυστερήσεις του ημιχρόνου αντί του Μάρτινς Ίντι. Έπαιξε αριστερά (δεξιά ο Ρόμπεν) και ουσιαστικά οδήγησε τους Ολλανδούς στην ανατροπή, καθώς έκανε την ασίστ στον Φαν Πέρσι για το 2-2 και έκανε ο ίδιος το 2-3 με τρομερό μακρινό σουτ.
An excellent Socceroos outfit has lost 3-2 to the Netherlands in a frenetic World Cup Group B clash in Porto Alegre on Thursday morning.
A Tim Cahill wonder goal – arguably the greatest goal ever scored by an Australian – levelled the match barely a minute after Arjen Robben put the Netherlands in front in the first half.
Mile Jedinak then put Australia in dreamland after the break with a successful penalty to put the Socceroos 2-1 up.
But a Robin van Persie goal and Memphis Depay’s long-range finish ultimately secured a 3-2 win for the Dutch, in a heartbreaking result that sees Australia eliminated from the World Cup after Chile beat Spain 2-0.
“It’s bitterly disappointing for the players – they were magnificent. They took it to a world-class team,” coach Ange Postecoglou said.
“It’s easy for me to talk about going forward and having self-belief, but they are the ones that have got to do it.
“Full credit to them, but I feel bitterly disappointed they weren’t able to get something out of it.
“I still think people look at us and predict the way we are going to play, but we will change those perceptions over time.
“I said to the players today was about trying to play our kind of football, and if they are going to underestimate us we are going to punish them.
“I really want us to be an exciting team, but it’s the players that have to do it, and they were magnificent.”
Despite the loss, the Socceroos again impressed on the world stage, belying their status as the tournament’s lowest-ranked team, and like they did at times against Chile, outperformed a Dutch side that had previously walloped Spain 5-1.
After a positive opening, a mistake from Alex Wilkinson saw Robben race into space before burying his shot past Mat Ryan at the far post for the opener on 20 minutes.
But rather than letting their heads drop, the Socceroos responded barely 60 seconds later when Cahill received a looping ball over his shoulder, before volleying it past Jasper Cillessen with a sumptuous left-footed volley.
Australia then took the lead after a Daryl Janmaat handball in the box, allowing captain Jedinak to slot home under pressure from the penalty spot.
But no lead was to last long in this match, with van Persie levelling the game at 2-2 with a typically wicked left-footed drive.
Substitute winger Depay then lashed home a finish from distance to put the Dutch 3-2 up.
Depay’s goal came just moments after an Australian break which saw Tommy Oar drill a cross straight at Mathew Leckie, who could only push the ball towards goal at pace with his chest, rather than his head.
The Netherlands had another chance on 74 minutes when van Persie jinked into the Australian area before offloading to Nigel de Jong, whose shot was excellently saved at close range by Mat Ryan.
Australia scrambled to fashion one last chance before full-time, but the Netherlands closed out the match to hold on for their first ever victory over Australia.
The Socceroos were brilliant in the first half, taking the game to the Netherlands with a high-pressure gameplan.
Robben’s strike was punishment for the only real Australian mistake in the first half, before Cahill’s super volley levelled the match.
An early goal-of-the-tournament contender, Cahill’s stunning strike sparked the Socceroos into another gear as they closed out the first half as the better team.
Mathew Leckie’s burst down the right saw the winger put in an inviting low cross into the box, but Mark Bresciano blazed the chance over the crossbar.
Matthew Spiranovic then had a chance from a free-kick, but he failed to make any solid contact on the turn.
A late tackle from Cahill on Bruno Martins Indi saw the forward earn a yellow card that will see him suspended for the final group game against Spain.
“Timmy was magnificent again and he led from the front. I thought Mile was outstanding. [Bresciano] was really struggling physically, but still gave it everything,” Postecoglou said.
“We haven’t made one excuse about players missing – we went out there and said we’d have a go and we did, and we’ll do it in the last game.
“Timmy will miss out but someone else will get an opportunity, and they will show the same endeavour as the other lads have shown.”
Porto Alegre: In the tighest of sporting contests, in the biggest of games at the highest level the gap between opponents, even those much more lowly ranked is so often marginal.
It is how one team performs in a critical moment that makes all the difference.
Australia had its golden chance to beat The Netherlands, but couldn’t take it. Seconds later the Dutch tried their luck from distance, and got lucky when Socceroos goalkeeper Mat Ryan blundered. The favourites won 3-2, but the tolerances can be so fine.
Socceroos coach Ange Postecoglou acknowledged as much in his post-match press conference when he backed Ryan, eulogised Tim Cahill and paid tribute to his entire team for the way they had contained one of the best teams in the world and then taken the game to them at every opportunity.
With obvious pain in his eyes and emotion choking his voice when asked how he felt at the outcome he simply said: ”heartbroken mate,”, before reflecting at length on a performance that illustrated all that is good about the potential of an inexperienced team he has only had under his tutelage for six months.
”I just wanted the players to get the reward for the way they went about things today. I have put a lot of pressure on the players…to be a certain type of team, to take it to a world class opposition. We did it today but we didn’t get the reward…I am massively disappointed.”
Disappointment is understandable, but neither Postecoglou nor his players has any reason to be downcast about the way they went about their business. For much of this match they rocked one of the world’s best teams who were never able to relax at any stage of proceedings.
The coach believes that this is simply the first step along a long route not just to footballing respectability but to a place where Australia will be respected and feared by anyone they play.
”We came to this World Cup and we are playing against three of the best nations in the world. People were saying we were not going to score a goal, that we were just going to try to survive.
”We have only just started on this journey, the goal is that we come back in four years time and they fear us as much before we go on the pitch as much as they fear us on there now.
”I said all along that I was not going to discount this World Cup. We came here to make a mark, and we have had opportunities in both games to do so.”
He was, as can be expected, effusive in his praise of the warhorse Cahill who scored one of the great individual goals of this or any other World Cup with a precision perfect volley from Ryan McGowan’s cross to bring Australia level in the first half.
”Timmy was Timmy. He was outstanding. I told him I wanted this to be his best World Cup. I said he was going to be a handful for any opposition. I am really delighted for him. ”
The coach was left to reflect on the moment when Australia’s – and The Netherlands’ – World Cup destinies could have become all so different.
Tommy Oar found himself in the penalty area with the chance to shoot, but instead of pulling the trigger himself he crossed for Mathew Leckie, who wasn’t quite able to bundle the ball over the line. Less than a minute later the Dutch attacked, and Mephis Depay’s speculative long shot had caught Ryan unawares, the goalkeeper’s error giving The Netherlands the lead in a game which effectively saw Australia all but mathematically eliminated from the World Cup.
”We had our moment when we could have gone 3-2 up, unfortunately Matthew Leckie could not get the right purchase on it. He’s got a future, he’s got maybe one or two World Cups to look forward to, but it wasn’t to be this time. It was moments that decided this game.”
Postecoglou would not point the finger at his 22-year-old goalkeeper who has not had the best of tournaments.
”It’s nobody’s fault. We win as a team we lose as a team. He’s distraught, but he’s only young.
”That was the critical moment, us missing the opportunity then conceding within a minute. That’s how these big games are decided.
”We have had some really good noses to get our noses in front and have not been able to. They had one chance in the first half and Arjen Robben punished us, as he will. We did everything we needed to bar for the goal.”
Postecoglou says Australia has tackled this World Cup on its own terms, cared nothing for what those outside the camp have thought, and have both learned lessons and made a point to the sceptics.
”It was not about whether we have proved people wrong, its more about what we think of ourselves than what other people believe.
”We don’t want to go to World Cups as outsiders. We don’t want to come to World Cups defending for our lives. We don’t want to be in this position in four years time, where people are writing us off before we play
”It wasn’t just about the result today, at times I think we played some really good football.”
Nor was Postecoglou losing too much sleep about the absence of Cahill, who is suspended, nor the likely absence of another veteran, Mark Bresciano, who might struggle to back up for a third tough game in such short order.
”We are not going to make any excuses now that Timmy is out. Someone else will come in and do a job. Against the best opposition in the world our approach won’t change.”
