Les ‘Mr Football’ Murray has signed off on his last live broadcast after 34 years at SBS.

Playfully dubbed Mr Football, SBS’ chief football commentator Les Murray has given his last live broadcast.

Alongside Craig Foster and David Zirilic, Murray’s time as a host of live events has come to an end, with the football fanatic remembering his favourite football moments.

“In those 35 years of watching European football, there were two glorious periods,” he said.

“It was the early Galacticos period of Real Madrid, and the glorious period of Barcelona under Pep [Guardiola]. I think they were outstanding periods generally in the period of football and that’s what I enjoyed most of all.”

This year, Murray commentated his last World Cup for SBS live in Rio De Janeiro.

Ever since calling the 1980 National Soccer League grand final for SBS, Murray has fought to promote the game in Australia

Murray has hosted World Soccer, On The Ball, SBS World Sport with the help of Andy Paschalidis and was a major player in securing the first broadcast rights to the World Cup.
