Nikos Karelis scored with just three minutes remaining to secure the Greek visitors their first points in Group E.
Panathinaikos FC claimed their first point in Group E but left it late to draw 1-1 at PSV Eindhoven.
Memphis Depay hit the bar with a free-kick from the edge of the box after 17 minutes, and the Dutch international – playing for the first time since 13 September after recovering from a groin injury – always looked the most likely to break the deadlock. He duly obliged on the stroke of half-time. Luuk de Jong played a sublime ball to send the young PSV striker through, and he rounded Luke Steele before calmly slotting home.
The second half began in a more lively fashion. PSV keeper Remko Pasveer had to sprint from his line to deny substitute Abdul Ajagun and at the other end Steele palmed a Jetro Willems shot over the bar. He also clutched a long-range attempt from Depay. Ajagun should have at least hit the target after a cute pass from Viktor Klonaridis released him behind the home defence, yet he screwed his effort well wide.
A strong run by Ouasim Bouy sprang another substitute, Nikos Karelis, inside the box but the ball got tangled under his feet and he failed to get a shot away. Yet it was the Greeks who struck just before the end to take their first point in Group E. Pasveer blocked Mladen Petrić’s close-range header, yet the forward nodded the rebound to Karelis, who scored from close range. Jeffrey Bruma compounded the home disappointment by picking up a second yellow card soon after.
