Emergency services are urging people to take care after a severe thunderstorm warning was issued for parts of Sydney and the New South Wales central coast and south coast regions.

The Bureau of Meteorology (BoM) said heavy rainfall, damaging winds, hails and flash flooding were likely for parts of Gosford, Sydney, Wollongong, Nowra, Batemans Bay, Orange and Goulburn.

Police have advised motorists to avoid any flooded areas or delay travel where possible as the storm passed over.

“Drive according to the prevailing weather conditions,” NSW Police said in a statement.

“Do not enter or drive through flooded areas.”

Visit the SES website for guidelines on what to do during a flood.
