Australian Universities ‘withdraw’ support for govt reform

Universities have reportedly withdrawn support for the government's plan to deregulate university fees.

The Abbott government’s plan to deregulate university fees is reportedly in disarray with support from universities evaporating.

According to News Corp reports the ‘Group of Eight’ leading universities withdrew support for the policy overnight.

The universities say the original intention of the deregulation has been lost in political desperation, as Education Minister Christopher Pyne tries to win over crossbench senators.

The Group of Eight says the government now needs to ‘push the reset button’ on deregulation.

The group’s chief executive Vicki Thomson says the best option forward is the original one offered by the Coalition.
