Although Ford Performance Vehicles and Holden will close shop in the Land Down Under in the following years, here’s a little bit of good news for Australian gearheads. A recent report hints that Holden Special Vehicles is working its magic on the ute.
The exclusive report published by the Aussies from CarsGuide tells that this car will bear the HSV GTS Maloo nameplate and will adopt the thumping great supercharged 6.2-liter V8 also fitted to the HSV GTS Sedan, Australia’s most powerful car ever.
The force-fed powerplant develops 430 kW (576 horsepower) and 740 Nm (545 lb-ft) of torque, which translates to almost the same oomph a V8 Supercar develops. A number of Holden dealerships have confirmed to the aforementioned publication the HSV GTS Maloo ute will hit the market by the end of 2014 and will cost roughly AUD 85,000.
Only 150 units of the LSA-powered workhorse are believed to see production, so there bad boys will be very rare indeed. Naturally, we expect dealers to up the sticker price of the thing with absurd premiums, just like Ford dealerships did with the limited edition FPV GT F 351. Don’t know about you, but we’re getting more and more excited with the horsepower race from the Land Down Under.
