Nathan Tinkler wants $5m for Jets bail out

OWNER and chairman Nathan Tinkler believes Football Federation Australia still owes him $5million for bailing the Newcastle Jets out more than four years ago.

After sacking five Jets players and three members of the coaching staff on Wednesday, Tinkler told the World Game website on Thursday that he would meet the FFA’s January 31 deadline to settle the club’s debts – which he estimated were about $500,000 – but only on his terms.

The former billionaire maintains he paid a $5 million fee when he acquired the Jets’ A-League licence and replaced Con Constantine as owner in September 2010.

The Newcastle Herald reported in May 2012 that Tinkler had paid FFA a $3.5 million acquisition fee, not $5 million, when he took the controls from Constantine.

‘‘Is there also a deadline for me getting my $5 million back from the FFA. Is that a deadline too?’’ Tinkler told the World Game.

‘‘That would be good. That would really help. FFA is at me for about $500,000, and I am at them for $5 million.

‘‘If they want to set a deadline to resolve those two issues, then I will be more than happy to resolve it by Saturday.’’
