Η μεγάλη επιτυχία που γνώρισε η περυσινή επίσκεψη στη χώρα μας, των φημισμένων ομάδων της Πρέμιερ Λιγκ, Μάντσεστερ Γιουν. και Λίβερπουλ, οι 55.000 και πλέον ποδοσφαιρόφιλοι, που παρακολούθησαν το ματς της Ιταλικής Γιουβέντους την περασμένη Κυριακή και τα ρεκόρ θεατών που σημειώθηκαν στο πρόσφατο διεθνές τουρνουά της Αμερικής, άνοιξαν την όρεξη της κυβέρνησης της Βικτώριας, η οποία ετοιμάζει για τον Ιούλιο του 2015 ένα αντίστοιχο διεθνές τουρνουά με τη συμμετοχή της Ρεάλ Μαδρίτης, της Μπαρτσελόνα του Λιονέλ Μέσι, της πρωταθλήτριας Αγγλίας Μάντσεστερ Σίτι και της Τσέλσι του Ζοζέ Μουρίνιο.

Επίσημες ανακοινώσεις δεν έχουν γίνει, αλλά, σύμφωνα με δημοσιογραφικές πληροφορίες, έχει «κλειστεί» το MCG για τις ημερομηνίες 25, 29 και 31 Ιουλίου 2015.
Κάτι που προκάλεσε τις φοβισμένες αντιδράσεις κύκλων του φούτι, που τρέμουν στην ιδέα της φιλοξενίας ενός ποδοσφαιρικού τουρνουά, τέτοιου βεληνεκούς, στην «πόλη-καρδιά» του φούτι.

Σύμφωνα πάντα με τις ίδιες πληροφορίες, η ομοσπονδία του φούτι, τα έχει και με την πολιτειακή κυβέρνηση, αλλά και τον οργανισμό Victorian Major Events, για τη συμμετοχή της σε ένα τόσο μεγάλο διεθνές ποδοσφαιρικό τουρνουά.

Στο μεταξύ, εμμέσως πλην σαφώς, ο πρέμιερ της Βικτώριας, Ντένις Νάπθαϊν, δήλωσε ότι θα ήθελε πολύ τη διοργάνωση ενός τέτοιου τουρνουά στην Πολιτεία μας.
Εξελίξεις και -ίσως- επίσημες ανακοινώσεις, αναμένονται εντός των προσεχών ημερών…

Να θυμίσουμε ότι φουλ ποδοσφαιρικά θα ξεκινήσει το 2015 για την Αυστραλία, με την χώρα μας να φιλοξενεί τη μεγάλη διοργάνωση του Κυπέλλου Εθνών Ασίας.

Εμβολιαστείτε για να γλιτώσετε…

Αν νομίζετε ότι τα χειρότερα του φετινού χειμώνα, κρύα, καταιγίδες και το χειρότερο όλων, δηλαδή, τα κρούσματα γρίπης, πέρασαν, κάνετε λάθος.
Όχι μόνο δεν πέρασε η εποχή της γρίπης, αλλά, όπως αναφέρουν οι υγειονομικές Αρχές, τώρα αρχίζει.

Με το μήνυμα «εμβολιαστείτε, προλαβαίνετε ακόμα» η οργάνωση υγείας Influenza Specialist Group -αρμόδια για την παρακολούθηση των κρουσμάτων γρίπης στη χώρα, προειδοποιεί ότι έχουν αυξηθεί δραματικά τα κρούσματα γρίπης φέτος σε σχέση με πέρυσι, ενώ αυξημένα είναι και αυτά της γρίπης των χοίρων.
Πιο συγκεκριμένα, ο αριθμός των κρουσμάτων γρίπης την ίδια εποχή πέρυσι κυμαινόταν στις 15.400, ενώ φέτος έφτασαν ήδη τις 21.000. Μάλιστα, η Παγκόσμια Οργάνωση Υγείας αναφέρει ότι τα 2/3 των Αυστραλών που ασθένησαν από γρίπη το 2014 είχε προσβληθεί από τον ιό H1N1, που είναι ευρύτερα γνωστός ως ο ιός της γρίπης των χοίρων.

Όπως ανέφερε ο Dr Alan Hampson, επικεφαλής της οργάνωσης Influenza Specialist Group, η γρίπη των χοίρων είναι
η γρίπη των χοίρων είναι ο βασικότερος λόγος της φετινής αύξησης των κρουσμάτων.

Σύμφωνα με τα μέχρι τώρα στοιχεία, στην Πολιτεία του Queensland, ο αριθμός των κρουσμάτων μέχρι στιγμής έχει φτάσει τις 6,818, στη Νέα Νότια Ουαλία τις 6.650, στην Βικτώρια ήταν 2.715, στη Νότια Αυστραλία 2.023, στην Δυτική Αυστραλία 1.906, στην Βόρεια Περιοχή 334, στην Τασμανία 216 και στην Περιοχή Πρωτευούσης παρατηρήθηκαν 317 κρούσματα.

Εκτιμάται, μάλιστα, ότι ο μεγαλύτερος αριθμός κρουσμάτων γρίπης εντός των επομένων έξι εβδομάδων θα παρουσιαστεί στη Βικτώρια.

ΚΑΙ ΟΙ ΝΕΑΡΕΣ ΜΗΤΕΡΕΣ ΣΤΙΣ ΕΥΠΑΘΕΙΣ ΟΜΑΔΕΣ

Σύμφωνα τις υγειονομικές υπηρεσίες, εκτός από τις γνωστές ευπαθείς ομάδες του πληθυσμού, ηλικιωμένους, μικρά παιδιά, άτομα με χρόνιες παθήσεις, εγκύους στις ομάδες υψηλού κινδύνου εντάχθηκαν φέτος και οι μητέρες μικρών παιδιών λόγω του ότι ο ιός της γρίπης προσβάλει πιο εύκολα τα παιδιά που στην συνέχεια μεταδίδουν τον ιό στις μητέρες του.

Ανησυχητικό, επίσης, θεωρείται και το γεγονός ότι φέτος ένας μεγάλος αριθμός αυτών που προσβλήθηκαν από τον ιό της γρίπης είναι νέοι άνθρωποι και ανήκουν στις ηλικιακές ομάδες 20-49 ετών.

Η ΓΡΙΠΗ ΤΩΝ ΧΟΙΡΩΝ

Η γρίπη των χοίρων προκαλείται από μια εξελικτική μορφή του ιού της κοινής γρίπης.

Τα συμπτώματα της γρίπης των χοίρων είναι παρόμοια με αυτά άλλων λοιμώξεων γρίπης αλλά περισσότερο έντονα.

Τα άτομα που θα προσβληθούν από τον ιό Η1Ν1 παρουσιάζουν Αιφνίδια πυρετό υψηλότερο των 38 βαθμών Κελσίου, φτάρνισμα, τρέξιμο μύτης και ποτίσματος κόκκινα μάτια, Βήχα, πονοκέφαλο, μυϊκούς πόνους, απώλεια όρεξης, κούραση, συμφόρηση του θώρακα, πονόλαιμο, ναυτία εμετό, διάρροια ενώ σε σοβαρές περιπτώσεις, μπορεί παρουσιαστεί και δυσκολία στην αναπνοή.

Αξίζει τέλος να αναφερθεί ότι το 2009 η γρίπη των χοίρων που πρωτοέκανε την εμφάνισή της στο Μεξικό εξελίχθηκε σε πανδημία και σκότωσε παγκοσμίως περίπου 15.000 ανθρώπους.

Woollahra council is running a Greek cultural day at the Redleaf and Blackburn Gardens called the Greek Day Out.

The event will celebrate all the best aspects of Greek culture, with things for young and old.

Greek theatre shadow puppets and facepainting will entertain the kids while mum and dad can grave a souvlaki and watch the wide selection of local Greek musical talent.

Exhibitions and lectures will also be on offer to get the crowd informed and entertained on all this to do with greek heritage.

Agricultural experts from the European Union’s 28 member states set to gather in Brussels to work out a solution.

Some 12,000 tons of peaches and nectarines remained in refrigerators in Imathia – one of seven prefectures affected by the Russian food embargo – with another 13,000 tons of fruit remaining unpicked due to a flood of cancelled deliveries.

With agricultural experts from the European Union’s 28 member states set to gather in Brussels this week to estimate the broader impact of Moscow’s ban ahead of calculating the compensation that should go to the various affected countries, authorities in seven prefectures in northern and central Greece are scrambling to assess their losses.

According to the head of the main group of agricultural cooperatives in Imathia, Christos Giannakakis, most of the trucks that had been dispatched with fruit for Russia have returned to the capital Veria following the cancellation of deliveries. But, he said, some of the truck drivers are trying to sell the fruit on their way back.

Earlier this week peach producers from the northern region of Macedonia compiled a joint petition with representatives of road haulage firms and packaging companies appealing to Brussels for immediate action to avert an “economic disaster.”

Meanwhile Greece sent a joint memo with Spain, Italy and France – which also export peaches – to Brussels, proposing a common approach to tackling the fallout of the ban.

Outdoor dining in Victoria set to become smoke free – Greek Australian retailers are worried.

It’s not a matter of if, it’s a matter of when. Smoking in outdoor dining areas is set to be a thing of the past as the Victorian government seeks to ban the habit.

Smoking will be banned in outdoor dining and drinking areas in the state, while public building entrances will also become smoke free under the new proposed laws.

As it stands, the proposal has no start date nor any permanent guidelines, but business owners will need to come round to the idea that their premises will need to be smoke free in the near future.

Health Minister David Davis says the policy will be in effect in the next five years after the government consults health professionals and businesses.

Hospitality businesses are now contemplating their options, while wondering if their smoking customers will be returning without the assurance of being able to smoke.

Melissa Cakes Cafe manager Effie Katsakis says the large outdoor decking area is almost exclusively occupied by smoking customers, and has mixed feelings about the proposed ban.

“People come here specifically because we have an outdoor area that is utilised for smoking. They know it’s warm and they know they can sit outside and smoke,” she tells Neos Kosmos.

“But a lot of people don’t want to sit outside, they don’t want to sit anywhere near it if there’s smoking in the area.

“They in fact complain if there’s smoke coming into other areas of restaurant.”

The outdoor decking area is actually split in two, to allow non-smokers the chance to sit outside and not be bothered by smoke. But the nicest area of the decking is sectioned off for smokers, something that has non-smokers irritated.

“It’s a little bit of a double edged sword. I’m literally caught in the middle, trying to please both sets of people,” Ms Katsakis says.

“They’re saying we should be able to sit outside as non-smokers and enjoy the view without having the smokers inhibit us.

“And then we’ve got the smokers saying we’ve got a right to smoke, we’re outside, we’re not harming anybody.”

A similar ban was proposed for Oakleigh’s Greek Mecca of Eaton Mall a couple of months ago, and was met with outrage from many.

Restaurateurs and customers alike signed petitions to keep the area smoking friendly.

The government hopes to take a note out of other states that have had the ban in place, some as early as 2006.

The Baw Baw Shire, east of Melbourne, has had a successful year-long trial of blanket bans to outdoor smoking.

Eighty four per cent of traders said the ban has a positive or no impact on their business.

In its own findings, the Cancer Council discovered that 49 per cent of the 4,000 Victorians surveyed said they had avoided outdoor dining areas in the past year due to smoking.

The survey also found that one in five people would visit cafes and restaurants more often if outdoor smoking bans were introduced.

Ποιοι είναι οι Γιαζίντι τους οποίους ο Μπαράκ Ομπάμα προστατεύει, μαζί με την έτερη μειονότητα των χριστιανών του Ιράκ.

Ποιοι είναι οι Γιαζίντι τους οποίους ο Μπαράκ Ομπάμα προστατεύει, μαζί με την έτερη μειονότητα των χριστιανών του Ιράκ, στέλνοντας αεροπλάνα για «στοχευμένες επιθέσεις», πράγμα που δεν έκανε ούτε για τα χημικά που έριξε ο Άσαντ πέρσι στη Συρία;
Ανάμεσα στα πολλά θύματα της προέλασης του Ισλαμικού Κράτους είναι και μια ομάδα 50.000 Γιαζίντι που έχουν παγιδευτεί στα βουνά του βορειοδυτικού Ιράκ χωρίς νερό και τρόφιμα.
Για τους τζιχαντιστές του Ισλαμικού Κράτους, οι Γιαζίντι είναι «σατανιστές». Στην πραγματικότητα, πρόκειται για μια μυστικοπαθή μειονότητα η προέλευση της οποίας αποτελεί ακόμη αντικείμενο έρευνας. Η θρησκεία τους περιλαμβάνει στοιχεία από πολλές θρησκείες, ακόμη και του ζωροαστρισμού.
Λόγω της μυστικότητας που τους περιβάλλει, όμως πολλοί, μουσουλμάνοι και μη, πιστεύουν ότι οι Γιαζίντι λατρεύουν τον σατανά. Αυτό το πληρώνουν ακριβά με σφοδρές επιθέσεις από ισλαμιστικές οργανώσεις. Για παράδειγμα, το 2007, τζιχαντιστές επιτέθηκαν σε χωριά των Γιαζίντι στην επαρχία Νινευή του Ιράκ, σκοτώνοντας εκατοντάδες (από 400 έως 700 άτομα).

Υπολογίζεται ότι έως και μισό εκατομμύριο Γιαζίντι υπάρχουν σήμερα στον κόσμο, και οι περισσότεροι ζουν στις πεδιάδες της Νινευή -τις οποίες διεκδικούν τόσο οι σουνίτες όσο και οι Κούρδοι του Ιράκ- αλλά και στη νοτιοανατολική Τουρκία και στη βορειοδυτική Συρία.
Σύμφωνα με την συγγραφέα Ντιάνα Νταρκ, που επισκέπτεται τακτικά τις περιοχές των Γιαζίντι από τη δεκαετία του ’80, η μειονότητα δεν καλοβλέπει την παγκόσμια προσοχή που στράφηκε πάνω της τις τελευταίες μέρες. Όπως εξήγησε στο BBC, η συνεχής καταδίωξή τους από την περιοχή του Όρους Σιντζάρ, δυτικά της Μοσούλης, βασίζεται σε μια παρανόηση του ονόματός τους. Οι ακραίοι σουνίτες, όπως ο Ισλαμικός Στρατός, πιστεύουν ότι προέρχεται από τον Γιαζίντ ιμπν Μουάουιγια (647-683 μ.Χ.), τον καθόλου δημοφιλή δεύτερο χαλίφη της δυναστείας των Ουμαγιάντ.

Όπως δείχνουν, όμως, οι επιστημονικές έρευνες, το όνομά τους προέρχεται από τον περσικό όρο «ιζέντ» που σημαίνει άγγελος ή θεότητα. Οι ίδιοι αποκαλούνται στη γλώσσα τους Νταασίν, που προέρχεται από μια παλαιά νεστοριανή επισκοπή καθώς πολλές από τις δοξασίες τους πηγάζουν από τον χριστιανισμό.
Κανείς δεν μπορεί να προσηλυτιστεί στον γιαζιντισμό. Πρέπει να έχει γεννηθεί Γιαζίντι, όπως συμβαίνει με τους Αλεβίτες και τους Δρούζους.
Οι Γιαζίντι πιστεύουν τόσο στη Βίβλο όσο και στο Κοράνι, αλλά πολλές από τις παραδόσεις τους είναι προφορικές. Αν και η θρησκεία τους έχει στοιχεία από τον ζωροαστρισμό -όπως ο ήλιος που κοσμεί τους λατρευτικούς τους χώρους και ότι οι τάφοι δείχνουν προς την ανατολή-, τα περισσότερα κοινά τα μοιράζονται με τον χριστιανισμό και το ισλάμ.

Τα παιδιά βαφτίζονται σε αγιασμένο νερό από έναν πιρ (παπά). Στους γάμους, αυτός σπάει ένα ψωμί και δίνει το μισό στη νύφη και το άλλο στον γαμπρό. Στις 15-20 Σεπτεμβρίου προσκυνούν τον τάφο του Σεΐχη Αντί, βόρεια της Μοσούλης, όπου πλένονται ιεροτελεστικά στον ποταμό. Επίσης, θυσιάζουν ζώα και κάνουν περιτομή.
Μονοθεϊστική θρησκεία, ο γιαζιντισμός πρεσβεύει ότι δημιουργός του κόσμου είναι ο Γιασντάν. Από αυτόν πηγάζουν επτά μεγάλα πνεύματα, με ανώτερο τον άγγελο παγώνι ή Μάλακ Τάους, στον οποίο προσεύχονται πέντε φορές τη μέρα. Η άλλη ονομασία του Μάλακ Τάους είναι Σαϊτάν, που σημαίνει σατανάς στα αραβικά, εξ ου η παρανόηση ότι οι Γιαζίντι λατρεύουν τον διάβολο.

Στις απομονωμένες περιοχές της νοτιοανατολικής Τουρκίας, κοντά στα σύνορα με τη Συρία και το Ιράκ, τα κάποτε εγκαταλελειμμένα χωριά των Γιαζίντι ξαναζωντανεύουν καθώς πολλοί επιστρέφουν από την εξορία εφόσον η τουρκική κυβέρνηση έχει πάψει πλέον να τους καταδιώκει.

Παρά τις διώξεις που έχουν υποστεί ανά τους αιώνες, οι Γιαζίντι δεν εγκατέλειψαν ποτέ την πίστη τους και απέδειξαν ότι έχουν έντονη αίσθηση ταυτότητας. Αν αναγκαστούν να εγκαταλείψουν το Ιράκ και την Συρία λόγω του Ισλαμικού Στρατού, το πιθανότερο είναι ότι θα εγκατασταθούν στη νοτιοανατολική Τουρκία.

Police on the hunt for perpetrators who pelted a derelict paper factory housing dozens of undocumented immigrants.

Police in the western port of Patra are seeking the perpetrators behind an arson attack on a small makeshift settlement close to a derelict paper factory where dozens of undocumented immigrants had been camping out.

Unidentified assailants pelted the settlement with makeshift firebombs in the early hours of the morning, causing no injuries but serious damage to the camp, according to local reports.

Hundreds of migrants aiming to leave Greece and seek a better life in Western Europe regularly try to sneak onto ferries leaving the western port for Italy.

Treasurer Joe Hockey’s suggestion that poor people don’t drive much has sparked an angry backlash from rural MPs within the government’s ranks.

The Treasurer’s defence of planned increases to the fuel excise raised a few eyebrows when he claimed poor people wouldn’t pay as much as the rich because they either don’t own cars or don’t drive far.

That explanation hasn’t washed with a number of backbench MPs, who have aired their concern that the controversial budget measure will hit rural communities hardest.

NSW Nationals senator John Williams says people in the bush need cars, a point echoed by Queensland Liberal National senator Ian Macdonald.

“You have to have a car whether you’re rich or poor, you need a vehicle to be able to get from one place to the other,” he told ABC Radio on Thursday.

“Regional Australians don’t have the alternative of public transport of other means of getting there.”

NSW Nationals senator John Cobb said nobody wanted to pay more for fuel, but the less you drive the less you pay.

Mr Hockey is sticking by his defence, saying richer households paid three times more in fuel taxes than the poorest because they normally owned more cars and drove further.

But he concedes there may be proportional impacts.

“That is the case with any indirect tax,” he told ABC Radio on Thursday.

However, Mr Hockey also argued that every dollar from plans to reintroduce twice-yearly indexation of the fuel excise would help to build new roads, which would create jobs and boost productivity.

He branded Labor “hypocrites” over their attack that he’s out of touch with ordinary Australians.

“Good luck to them,” he told ABC Radio on Thursday.

“I don’t care about that commentary.”

Labor and the Greens oppose the controversial budget measure, saying it will hit low-income families the hardest because they’ll have less to spare for the increased costs.

Consumer group One Big Switch argued poor people spend a higher proportion of their income on fuel and live further away, meaning they’re hit twice.

A major survey in June showed the biggest average fuel bill in Sydney was in the south-western suburbs, while those in Melbourne’s north-east and north-west paid the most for petrol on average.

Mr Hockey didn’t disagree with this, saying that’s why the government had decided to use the extra revenue from the fuel excise to build roads in these areas.

THE daughter of former premier Neville Wran was last night charged with murder over the stabbing death of a man at a Redfern unit block.

Harriet Wran, the youngest daughter of the former Labor state leader, who died at the age of 87 on April 20, was yesterday confirmed by police as a person of interest in the murder of 48-year-old Daniel McNulty and the stabbing of another man, Brett Fitzgerald.

She was charged early this morning with murder, attempted murder and aggravated break and enter.

After spending the night in a cell, she was escorted out of Cabramatta Police Station just before 9.30am.

She was sitting on the right hand side of the white police wagon with her face turned away, dressed in what appeared to be a grey jumpsuit.

She is to appear in front of a magistrate at Liverpool Local Court at 11am.

The Wran family have briefed prominent barrister Winston Terracini SC to act on Ms Wran’s behalf.

Fronting media this morning, Mr Terracini said bail would not be applied for.

“We are not going to make a bail application tomorrow,” Mr Terracini said.

“It will be a five minute job, we turn up, bail will be refused, won’t be applied for.”

The former University of Sydney student, and goddaughter of Kerry Packer, handed herself into Cabramatta Police Station just after 5pm, along with a 30-year-old man, Michael Lee, who was also wanted for questioning.

Lee was also charged with murder, attempted murder and aggravated break and enter, and will appear at Liverpool Local Court today.

The shock twist came just hours after 29-year-old Lloyd Edward Haines yesterday faced Parramatta Local Court for the murder of Mr McNulty on Sunday night.

Senior police sources confirmed to The Daily Telegraph that Wran, 26, and a 30-year- old man of Asian appearance were wanted in connection with the double stabbing at the Walker St unit block.

In a statement announcing Haines’ arrest, police said they were looking for a man and woman also believed to be inside the apartment at the time.

McNulty died at the scene shortly after paramedics were called about 7.45pm, while Mr Fitzergerald was taken to St Vincent’s Hospital with multiple stab wounds. His condition is stable.

The 48-year-old moved to Sydney from Byron Bay two years ago and was on a methadone program battling a heroin addiction, a friend said.

The man, who did not want to be named, said Mr McNulty had a nine-year-old daughter and was separated from his wife.

“He was a good guy. He was affable, friendly, charismatic,” a neighbour said

Wran was wearing jeans and a blue shirt at the time of the arrest, and had her brown hair worn up, police say.
