Κινεζικοί δορυφόροι εντόπισαν αντικείμενα, που θα μπορούσαν να είναι συντρίμμια του αγνοούμενου αεροσκάφους της Malaysia Airlines, να επιπλέουν στην νότια περιοχή όπου επικεντρώνονται οι έρευνες για τον εντοπισμό του και κινεζικά πλοία σπεύδουν επί τόπου, ανακοίνωσε σήμερα η Μαλαισία.
“Κινεζικά πλοία μεταβαίνουν στην περιοχή. Το Πεκίνο αναμένεται να προχωρήσει σε σχετική ανακοίνωση εντός μερικών ωρών”, είπε στους δημοσιογράφους ο υπουργός Άμυνας και εκτελών χρέη υπουργού Μεταφορών Χισχαμουντίν Χουσέιν.

Όπως είπε ο ίδιος, ένα από τα αντικείμενα είναι πολύ μεγάλων διαστάσεων–22Χ30 μ.

Αναφορικά με τις έρευνες για την τύχη του Μπόινγκ και τις συνθήκες εξαφάνισής του, ο υπουργός πρόσθεσε ότι δεν διαπιστώθηκε “τίποτα μη φυσιολογικό” από το περιεχόμενο της συνομιλίας ανάμεσα στους πιλότους και στον πύργο ελέγχου.

Ο ίδιος εξήγησε ότι η κυβέρνηση δεν μπορεί να δώσει στη δημοσιότητα το περιεχόμενο των συνομιλιών, αλλά “μπορώ να επιβεβαιώσω ότι δεν υπάρχει ένδειξη για κάτι αφύσικο”.

A Chinese satellite has identified another object in the Indian Ocean that could be from the missing Malaysia Airlines airliner.

The object is about 22.5 metres long and 13 metres wide.

Chinese ships and planes were heading towards the area on Saturday night.

Chinese media is reporting the object was sighted 120 kilometres from where two objects were identified by Australia, where the search has been focused until now.

China’s embassy in Kuala Lumpur advised Malaysian authorities of the sighting late on Saturday.

Malaysia’s acting transport minister Hishammuddin Hussein announced the finding after being handed a note during a press briefing where he expressed concern about a category one cyclone forming the Indian Ocean near Australia’s remote Christmas Island.

Ships from China and other nations joining the search may have to pass through the cyclone danger area, Mr Hishammuddin said.

Malaysian authorities said the transcript of a purported recording of the conversations between the pilots and air traffic control in Kuala Lumpur before MH370 inexplicably turned around over the South China Sea on Match 8 was inaccurate. But Azharuddin Abdul Rahman, director-general of Malaysia’s civil aviation department, declined to say to elaborate where the transcript was inaccurate.

Mr Hishammuddin told journalists investigators are still analysing the conversations and the transcript would not be made public.

But he said there did not appear to be anything “abnormal” in the conversations.

First versus third, Mourinho versus Wenger, West London versus North London. Whichever way you look at this game it’s big.

And come the closing day of the season could be pivotal in which club is crowned champions of England.

Chelsea sit top of the pile at kick off, however Jose Mourinho and the fans are all too aware of how precarious their position is.

Manchester City are capable of opening up a three-point lead over the Blues by winning their games in hand. Defeat here would allow both Liverpool and Arsenal to leapfrog them as well should they both win their games in hand and if Liverpool can overcome Cardiff in the later kick off.

Not the safest of seats to be in, but not one Mourinho hasn’t been in before.

The back story to this game will tell tales of a heated and sometimes bitter rivalry between two of the leading coaches in the world of football.

With the “special one” dubbing his Arsenal counterpart a “specialist in failure” earlier this season there is no doubt Arsene Wenger would love to get a win that would not only boost his club’s title chances, but also let him leave Stamford Bridge having finally beaten his rival on the 11th attempt.

It’s been well publicised before this match that Wenger has never beaten Mourinho, having lost five and drawn five in their previous match-ups. However in the Premier League, the record is slightly more even with five draws from seven games between the two.

Whatever the final result you can be certain that these managers will have something to say about each other in those post game interviews.

Chelsea suffered a triple blow last weekend when the 1-0 defeat to Aston Vila put the reins for the title race into City’s hands.

It also cost them Ramires and Willian due to red cards.

These two join the injured Van Ginkel in only being able to watch the match this Saturday.

Ashley Cole may be available after returning from injury and David Luiz’s inclusion on the bench for the midweek clash against Galatasary mean he will be available for selection.

Wenger must be wondering what he has done to incur the wrath of the injury gods season after season.

With Theo Walcott, Jack Wilshere, Aaron Ramsey and Mesut Ozil out for this game, there is big pressure on the likes of Cazorla and Tomas Rosicky to produce the creative sparks, something Rosicky managed quite well with his stunning strike against Tottenham last week.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain limped off during that game and it’s uncertain as to whether he will be a part of this weekend’s action.

January signing Kim Kallstrom could make his first appearance for the club after finally recovering from a back injury that has kept him out since signing for the Gunners.

I’ve been a fan of Kallstrom since his Lyon days and the Swede will add much needed depth to this midfield as well as being a class player able to strike the ball extremely well from a distance.

The Arsenal coach will need his whole team to put in a performance if they are to come away from this game with anything more than a worse off goal difference.

Stamford Bridge is a fortress where not many teams apart from Chelsea pick up points.

Arsenal are the only team in the top 10 that Chelsea have not played against at home this season, and they have beaten every other one.

They have dropped four points at home all season and kept clean sheets in their last four games there.

In front of their own fans Chelsea always seem to get the business done, some may not be pretty but at the end of the day three points is three points.

Home form is one of the reasons Chelsea find themselves right in the middle of the battle for the title.

Another reason is their performances against big teams. In eight meetings with the sides currently occupying European spots, Chelsea have negotiated five wins, two draws and only one loss.

Mourinho will be keen to maintain his side’s undefeated home status and will be willing to make his team grind out the result they need in any way possible.

Arsenal won’t be all doom and gloom in the dressing room though, they have beaten Chelsea at Stamford Bridge more than any other visiting side in history and are joint top for the best away record this season.

They have taken 29 points from a possible 45 on the road this season, with 8 of the 16 points dropped coming from the last four games.

It has become an annoying habit for Arsenal fans that their team always seems to be a major contender in the title race early on before falling away from the main pack towards the end of the season.

A victory here would get Arsenal fans daring to dream that this season might be different. One sensational goal and impressive defending display could open up the Gunners fans to talk of a double, something many would have laughed away during pre-season.

Boosted by Cazola and Ramsey committing their future to the club if Wenger can get his team fired up and believing then he could very well be celebrating his 1000th game in charge with an unexpected victory.

As a fan of football I would like to see an Arsenal win to keep all four horses in the race to be champions.

If Chelsea win I can’t see Arsenal being able to come back and mount a serious challenge, although with the Blues and Man City still having the trip to Anfield ahead you never know.

My head has to prevail over my heart in the prediction for this game though, with Arsenal’s faltering performances away from home recently and Chelsea making a desperate push not to potentially fall further behind City, I’m going for a 2-1 home win.

No matter what the result Saturday afternoon promises to be a very entertaining one at Stamford Bridge.

With only one of Chelsea’s home games against top 10 teams having under 2.5 goals, you’d have to be crazy to miss it.

Two weeks after a Malaysian airliner carrying 239 people vanished, international teams stepped up their search deep in the southern Indian Ocean on Saturday, as a Malaysian minister  expressed fear a possible sighting of debris may be another false lead.

Meanwhile, India has formally told Malaysian investigators it has found no evidence that MH370 flew through its airspace, several people familiar with the matter said.

Searches by more than two dozen countries have turned up little but frustration and fresh questions about Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370 which disappeared on a scheduled flight from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing on March 8.

Six aircraft and two merchant ships were scouring an area of the remote southern Indian Ocean where suspected debris was spotted by satellite six days ago.

There were no reports of any wreckage being found. Australia, which announced the satellite image and is coordinating the rescue, has cautioned the objects might be a lost shipping container or other debris and may have since sunk. “Even though this is not a definite lead, it is probably more solid than any other lead around the world and that is why so much effort and interest is being put into this search,” Deputy Prime Minister Warren Truss told reporters.

According to several people familiar with the matter, India has told Malaysian investigators that it had found no evidence the plane flew through its airspace, making the satellite debris lead more solid.

It was the first formal notification that India had come up empty-handed after checking its radar records, the sources said. China, Japan and India were sending more planes and Australian and Chinese navy vessels were also steaming towards the southern zone, more than 2,000 km (1,200 miles) southwest of Perth.

Weather conditions were good, with 10 km (6 miles) of visibility, according to officials – a crucial boost for a search that is relying more on human eyes than the technical wizardry of the most advanced aircraft in the world.

India finds no evidence

The first formal notification that India has come up empty-handed after checking its radar records leaves the two-week-old investigation dependent on increasingly fragile hopes that an object spotted in the southern Indian Ocean comes from Flight MH370.

Malaysian Defence Minister Hishammuddin Hussein said earlier that after two days without confirmation, his “biggest concern” was that the search for the missing plane would have to focus once again on two corridors stretching north and south.

Any radar data from India could have proved crucial in identifying whether the aircraft went north or south from its last known position after disappearing on March 8, but the issue is seen as sensitive because of the presence of military radar.

Sources familiar with the situation in both countries said India had formally told Malaysia that it had checked for any sign of the jet having touched its airspace and found nothing of significance, in response to Kuala Lumpur’s diplomatic request.
“I AM NOT GOING TO GIVE UP”

Malaysian Defence Minister Hishammuddin Hussein said on Friday searchers realised that time was running out. The “black box” voice and data recorder only transmits an electronic signal for about 30 days before its battery dies.

“I am still quite concerned that – it’s been two days – and yet the searches have not come out with any debris,” he said on Saturday about the operation in the southern Indian Ocean. “I am not going to give up… My biggest concern is that we are not able to identify the debris, having to go back to the two corridors.”

Aircraft and ships have also renewed the search in the Andaman Sea between India and Thailand, going over areas in the northern corridor that have already been exhaustively swept to find some clue to unlock one of the biggest mysteries in modern aviation.

The Pentagon said it was considering a request from Malaysia for sonar equipment. The P-8 and P-3 spy planes, which the United States is already deploying in the search, also carry “sonobuoys” that are dropped into the sea and use sonar signals to search the waters below.

Investigators suspect the Boeing 777 was deliberately diverted thousands of miles from its scheduled path. They say they are focusing on hijacking or sabotage but have not ruled out technical problems.

Britain’s Daily Telegraph published what it said was a transcript of communications between the cockpit of Flight MH370 and Malaysian air control, but few if any new clues emerged.

The search itself has strained ties between China and Malaysia, with Beijing repeatedly leaning on the Southeast Asian nation to step up its hunt and do a better job at looking after the relatives of the Chinese passengers.

For families of the passengers, the process has proved to be an emotionally wrenching battle to elicit information.

In a statement on Saturday, relatives in Beijing lambasted a Malaysian delegation for “concealing the truth” and “making fools” out of the families after they said they left a meeting without answering all their questions.

“This kind of conduct neglects the lives of all the passengers, shows contempt for all their families, and even more, tramples on the dignity of Chinese people and the Chinese government,” they said.

Some experts have argued that the reluctance to share sensitive radar data and capabilities in a region fraught with suspicion amid China’s military rise and territorial disputes may have hampered the search.

Δηλώνει ο αρχηγός της αξιωματικής αντιπολίτευσης Bill Shorten.

Στις 13 Μαρτίου συμπληρώθηκαν έξι μήνες από την ημέρα που ο Bill Shorten ανέλαβε την αρχηγία του Εργατικού Κόμματος, μετά από μία νικηφόρο μονομαχία με τον έτερο μνηστήρα της αρχηγίας, Anthony Albanese.

O «ανατροπέας» δύο πρωθυπουργών –κατά τους κομματικούς επικριτές και τους πολιτικούς αντιπάλους του– τους τελευταίους έξι μήνες κάθεται άνετα στο αρχηγικό άρμα. Δηλώνει, εξάλλου, ότι «η διαδρομή των πρώτων έξι μηνών ήταν, μεν, απαιτητική, αλλά ικανοποιητική».

Η δημοτικότητά του είναι υψηλή για αρχηγό κόμματος, που στις εθνικές εκλογές του παρελθόντος Σεπτεμβρίου υπέστη σαρωτική ήττα και μέχρι σήμερα δεν έχει διατυπώσει σαφείς εναλλακτικές προτάσεις για τα μείζονα ζητήματα – συντάξεις, κοινωνικές παροχές, απασχόληση κ.ά). Δηλώνει, γενικώς, ότι το Εργατικό Κόμμα παραμένει «το κόμμα του λαού», δεσμεύεται «να παλέψει» για τα δικαιώματα των μη εχόντων, στιγματίζει την «αντιλαϊκή» πολιτική της κυβέρνησης, αμφισβητεί ευθέως την «αξιοπιστία» του πρωθυπουργού, Tony Abbot, και των άμεσων συνεργατών του.

Γνωρίζει τις δημογραφικές ομάδες –ενήλικες και ηλικιωμένους- στις οποίες οφείλει να επικεντρώσει το Εργατικό Κόμμα για να επανακάμψει στην εξουσία, διαβεβαιώνει για την ποιοτική «αναβάθμιση» του λόγου και της πολιτικής της αξιωματικής αντιπολίτευσης και εύχεται τα αγγλόφωνα μέσα ενημέρωσης να δώσουν, κάποια στιγμή, στο Εργατικό Κόμμα «το μερίδιο» της προβολής που δικαιούται η εναλλακτική πολιτική του. «Το απαιτεί η αντικειμενική, ισορροπημένη ενημέρωση του λαού» πιστεύει. Οι δημοσκοπήσεις ευνοούν τον κ. Shorten, αλλά δεν τις εκλαμβάνει ως σταθερό μέτρο αποδοχής του ιδίου και του κόμματός του. Ασχολείται χρόνια με την πολιτική για να γνωρίζει, ότι οι δημοσκοπήσεις είναι τόσο ευμετάβλητες, που δεν μπορεί ο πολιτικός να θεμελιώνει το μέλλον του και την πολιτική του σε αυτές.

Η τελευταία δημοσκόπηση της AGE/NielsenPoll ανέδειξε τον Tony Abbott «καταλληλότερο πρωθυπουργό», με 48% των προτιμήσεων των ψηφοφόρων έναντι 43% του κ. Shorten. Στην ουσία, η δημοσκόπηση κατέγραψε άνοδο της δημοτικότητας του αρχηγού της αξιωματικής αντιπολίτευσης κατά τέσσερις ποσοστιαίες μονάδες. Το άλλο, θετικό στοιχείο της δημοσκόπησης, για τον κ. Shorten, είναι η άνοδος του ποσοστού επιδοκιμασίας του έργου του στο 49%, το ίδιο ακριβώς ποσοστό επιδοκιμασίας του έργου του πρωθυπουργού.

«Οι δημοσκοπήσεις μας ευνοούν, επί του παρόντος, αλλά δεν παρασυρόμαστε» λέει με πεποίθηση. «Ξέρουμε τον όγκο και την πολυμορφία του έργου, που έχουμε μπροστά μας, και επικεντρώνουμε σε αυτό για να διατηρούμε την επαφή μας με το λαό και να χαρτογραφούμε την επιστροφή μας στην εξουσία» συμπληρώνει. Ο κ. Shorten θεωρεί, ότι το «θαυμάσιο» για το Εργατικό Κόμμα αποτέλεσμα των πολιτειακών εκλογών στη Νότια Αυστραλία, «αν και κρίθηκε από καθαρά τοπικά θέματα, αποτελεί σαφή ένδειξη της αυξανόμενης δυσαρέσκειας του λαού, από την αντιλαϊκή πολιτική της κυβέρνησης Abbott».

Για το κακό αποτέλεσμα των πολιτειακών εκλογών στην Τασμανία πιστεύει και αυτός, όπως οι ψηφοφόροι της Πολιτείας και τα μέλη του Εργατικού Κόμματος, ότι ήταν «προδιαγεγραμμένo» από πολλούς παράγοντες, βασικότερος των οποίων ήταν η 16χρονη παραμονή του Εργατικού Κόμματος στην εξουσία. Ο αρχηγός της αξιωματικής δηλώνει –και δεν υποκρίνεται– ότι το Εργατικό Κόμμα οφείλει να ενισχύσει τις υπάρχουσες και να δημιουργήσει νέες γέφυρες με τον Ελληνισμό της Αυστραλίας. Δηλώνει, άλλωστε, σε κάθε ευκαιρία ότι οι περισσότεροι κάτοικοι της έδρας του διαβάζουν «Νέο Κόσμο». Στη συζήτησή μας στα γραφεία του «Νέου Κόσμου, στο τέλος της περασμένης εβδομάδας, ομολόγησε ευθαρσώς ότι «προσδίδει εξαιρετική σημασία στην προσωπική σχέση του και την ιστορική σχέση του κόμματός του με τον Ελληνισμό».

«Βρίσκομαι στα γραφεία του «Νέου Κόσμου» για να μηνύσω μέσω της εφημερίδας σας στον Ελληνισμό της Αυστραλίας, ότι η ιστορία μας έχει τάξει σε κοινούς αγώνες για την υπεράσπιση των συμφερόντων του αγωνιζόμενου πολίτη, του νεοφερμένου μετανάστη, του πρόσφυγα, του ηλικιωμένου, του ασθενή. Θα συνεχίσουμε τους αγώνες μας ως σύμμαχοι εναντίον του κατεστημένου» τονίζει.

Προκαλώ τον κ. Shorten να καταθέσει τις απόψεις του, για την προσπάθεια της κυβέρνησης Abbott να νομιμοποιήσει τις ρατσιστικές επιθέσεις σε πολίτες μη αγγλοσαξωνικής καταγωγής, με την αλλαγή του Άρθρου 18C του Νόμιμου περί Ρατσιστικών Διακρίσεων. Λαύρος, καταδικάζει τις προσπάθειες της κυβέρνησης και προβλέπει, ότι η υπόθεση αυτή θα γίνει μπούμερανγκ και θα πλήξει το Γενικό Εισαγγελέα, George Brandis και την κυβέρνηση.

«Η κυβέρνηση Abbott θα διαπράξει τραγικό λάθος, αν αλλάξει το Άρθρο 18 C» αντιδρά. «Είναι ανυπόστατοι οι ισχυρισμοί του Γενικού Εισαγγελέα, άλλων μελών της κυβέρνησης και του συντηρητικού κατεστημένου, ότι το εν λόγω άρθρο περιορίζει την ελευθερία έκφρασης του πολίτη. Εμείς αντιλαμβανόμαστε τη σημασία του εν λόγω άρθρου του Νόμου περί Φυλετικών Διακρίσεων για την προστασία της φυλετικής και πολιτισμικής διαφορετικότητας καθώς και για τη συνοχή της πολυπολιτισμικής κοινωνίας μας και εναντιωνόμαστε στην αποδυνάμωση του Νόμου.

Αυτή είναι άλλωστε και η ειδοποιός διαφορά μεταξύ της συντηρητικής παράταξης και του Εργατικού Κόμματος. Εμείς δεν επιδιώκουμε να διχάσουμε την κοινωνία μας, στρέφονταν ομάδες του πληθυσμού εναντίον άλλων, όπως κάνει η κυβέρνηση. Είναι παρήγορο, πάντως το γεγονός, ότι ο κ. Brandis έχει καταφέρει, με την επιμονή του, να στρέψει εναντίον του τις μεταναστευτικές κοινότητες και τους υγιώς σκεπτομένους συναδέλφους του και πολίτες της χώρας».

Δεν διαφωνείτε με την αλλαγή του Νόμου περί Φυλετικών Διακρίσεων, μόνο. Διαφωνείτε και με την αλλαγή των Νόμων, που καθορίζουν το ιδιοκτησιακό καθεστώς της Qantas και που εσείς οι Εργατικοί σχεδιάσατε και υλοποιήσατε. Τον κεντρίζω. «Ακούστε, εμείς δεν αρνούμεθα ότι η Qantas έχει ανάγκη ανακεφαλαιοποίησης και εσωτερικής αναδιάρθρωσης. Αρνούμεθα να δεχθούμε τις προτάσεις της διοίκηση, διότι δεν τις θεωρούμε βιώσιμες.  Να γίνω πιo συγκεκριμένος. Όλοι θέλουμε να έχουμε ένα εθνικό αερομεταφορέα για συναισθηματικούς, αλλά κυρίως πρακτικούς λόγους. Δεν αποδεχόμαστε, κατά συνέπεια, προτάσεις, που αν υλοποιηθούν θα παραδώσουν την Qantas σε ξένα συμφέροντα. Η αλλαγή του ιδιοκτησιακού καθεστώτος, που ζητά η διοίκηση και στηρίζει η κυβέρνηση θα κοστίσει χιλιάδες δουλειές – διότι η συντήρηση των αεροσκαφών θα γίνεται στο εξωτερικό και θα μεταφερθούν εκτός Αυστραλίας και άλλες βασικές υπηρεσίες θα λειτουργούν εκτός Αυστραλίας. Ταυτόχρονα η αλλαγή του ιδιοκτησιακού καθεστώτος θα υπονομεύσει τη θέση μας σε περίοδο κρίσης.  Για παράδειγμα, αν ξεσπάσει κρίσης στις σχέσεις μας με μία χώρα-ιδιοκτήτη της Qantas, τι θα συμβεί; Πώς θα μας αντιμετωπίσουν; Θα μπορέσουμε να χρησιμοποιήσουμε την Qantas για τις ανάγκες μας και με τι κόστος; Η κυβέρνηση Abbott, που διακηρύσσει τον πατριωτισμό της σε κάθε ευκαιρία αγνοεί αυτές τις βασικές λεπτομέρειες και ζητά το ξεπούλημα της Qantas. Εμείς αντιπροτείνουμε την παροχή εγγύησης καθορισμένης χρονικής διάρκειας, για δανεισμό κεφαλαίων από το εξωτερικό, για να μην χάσουμε τον εθνικό αερομεταφορέα μας και για να μην καταλήξουν στην ανεργία χιλιάδες εργατοϋπάλληλοι. Δυστυχώς, τα μέσα ενημέρωσης αρνούνται να προβάλλουν τις θέσεις μας, με συνέπεια την ανεπαρκή, μονομερή πληροφόρηση του λαού για την πολιτική του Εργατικού Κόμματος». Επιτρέψτε μου να παρατηρήσω, ότι χάσατε πολύτιμες ευκαιρίες στη βουλή για να ξεσκεπάστε την κυβέρνηση. Τις χάσατε διότι η επιχειρηματολογία σας ήταν ιδεολογική, όχι επί της ουσίας. Παρεμβαίνω. «Διαφωνώ με την εκτίμησή σας, αλλά τη σέβομαι. Δώσαμε τους αγώνες μας στη βουλή, αλλά όπως προείπα δεν προβλήθηκαν επαρκώς από τα μέσα ενημέρωσης. Εξάλλου, η συζήτηση για το μέλλον του εθνικού αερομεταφορέα μας δεν έκλεισε. Η αντιπολίτευση θα δώσουμε σκληρές μάχες στη γερουσία, όπου θα καταθέσουμε όλα τα στοιχεία που έχουμε στη διάθεσή μας και θα ερευνήσουμε όλες τις πτυχές της υπόθεσης Qantas. Θα αποκαλύψουμε, ότι στόχος της κυβέρνησης δεν είναι η σωτηρία της Qantas, είναι η μεταβίβαση των ευθυνών σε άλλους».

Εννοείτε το Εργατικό Κόμμα, που προέβη στην ιδιωτικοποίησή της; Διότι κατηγορείστε και από μερίδα του λαού για την ιδιωτικοποίηση του εθνικού αερομεταφορέα. Σε αυτό το κλίμα Θα δώσετε μάχες στη γερουσία, με κίνδυνο να αλλοτριώσετε το λαό, που σύμφωνα με κάποιες δημοσκοπήσεις εξακολουθεί να έχει επιφυλάξεις για την πολιτική σας; «Να σας θυμίσω, ότι οι περισσότερες δημοσκοπήσεις μας δίνουν προβάδισμα. Θα συμφωνήσω, όμως, μαζί σας, ότι οι δημοσκοπήσεις είναι ευμετάβλητες. Επιμένω, ότι η σχέση της αξιωματικής αντιπολίτευσης με το λαό θα ήταν πολύ καλύτερη, αν τα μέσα ενημέρωσης μας κάλυπταν επαρκώς. Αν προέβαλαν τις πολιτικές μας και προέβαιναν σε αντικειμενικές συγκρίσεις με τις αντίστοιχες πολιτικές της κυβέρνησης. Να σας θυμίσω, επίσης, ότι η ιδιωτικοποίησης της Qantas, έγινε με την υπογραφή συμβολαίου των Εργατικών κυβερνήσεων με τον αυστραλιανό λαό, το οποίον προέβλεπε την ιδιωτικοποίηση της εταιρείας με σαφείς όρους, που προστάτευαν την ταυτότητά της και τα συμφέροντα του κράτους. Σήμερα η κυβέρνηση Abbott ζητά να ακυρώσει αυτό το συμβόλαιο, χωρίς να απαντά σε βασικά ερωτήματα για τη νέα δομή της εταιρείας, τον τρόπο αξιολόγησης των περιουσιακών στοιχείων της και τη διασπορά των υπηρεσιών της ανά τον κόσμο, αν την πάρουν στα χέρια τους ξένοι ιδιοκτήτες».

Η κυβέρνηση ισχυρίζεται, επικαλούμενη το παράδειγμα της SPC Ardmona, ότι η Qantas δεν χρειάζεται εγγυήσεις, χρειάζεται νέο ιδιοκτησιακό καθεστώς. Εσείς διαφωνείτε και ο χορός των διαφωνιών καλά κρατεί. Η SPC Ardmona έλαβε 25 εκ. δολάρια από την κυβέρνηση της Βικτωρίας, οπότε η κυβέρνηση Abbott ομιλεί εκ τους ασφαλούς. Ακούστε, ο κ Abbott και οι Λίμπεραλς δεν ενδιαφέρονται για την οικονομία, την ανεργία, την περίθαλψη των πολιτών. Τα αφήνουν, όλα αυτά, στην κρίση της αγοράς με οποιοδήποτε κόστος στον πολίτη. Αντίθετα, εμένα με ενδιαφέρει η μεσαία τάξη, με ενδιαφέρει η άσκηση ρεαλιστικής πολιτικής, η περίθαλψη του πολίτη, το μέλλον της χώρας. Αυτή είναι η ειδοποιός διαφορά μεταξύ των συντηρητικών και του Εργατικού Κόμματος, την οποία θα αναλύουμε σταδιακά στο λαό».

Αφού μιλάμε για την περίθαλψη του πολίτη, η κυβέρνηση Abbott έχει στραφεί, στο πλαίσιο της αυστηρής δημοσιονομικής πολιτικής της, κατά ασθενών και αναπήρων, που «λυμαίνονται» το σύστημα. Πώς κρίνει η αντιπολίτευση την κυβερνητική πρωτοβουλία; «Αστεία πράγματα. Ποιος θέλει να παριστάνει τον άρρωστο ή τον ανάπηρο, όταν είναι ικανός να δουλέψει. Ελάχιστοι, πολύ ελάχιστοι. Όποιος είναι ικανός αρπάζει αμέσως την ευκαιρία να επιστρέψει στη δουλειά του.  Οι απόψεις της κυβέρνησης είναι στρεβλές και κοντόφθαλμες. Η κυβέρνηση υιοθετεί τακτικές περασμένων δεκαετιών, διαχωρίζοντας τους πολίτες σε «καλούς» και «κακούς». Οι ασθενείς και οι ανάπηροι είναι οι «κακοί» και οι εύποροι πολίτες οι «καλοί». Δυστυχώς, η λογική αυτή εξαιρεί τους «σακάτες» πολίτες, μεταξύ των οποίων και πολλοί μετανάστες που έλιωσαν στα χυτήρια και σε άλλες βιομηχανίες, που σήμερα υποφέρουν από διάφορες ασθένειες και αναπηρίες. Να βελτιώσουμε το σύστημα, όπου επιδέχεται αλλαγές και βελτιώσεις, αλλά «να μην κάψουμε τα χλωρά μαζί με τα ξερά». Ο αρχηγός της αξιωματικής αντιπολίτευσης πιστεύει στην πλήρη απασχόληση και υπόσχεται ο σχεδιασμό και υλοποίηση πολιτικών, που θα δώσουν δουλειά στις χιλιάδες των ανέργων.

Η τελευταία ανακοίνωση της Στατιστικής Υπηρεσίας δείχνει μείωση της ανεργίας. Σας ικανοποιεί το τρέχον εθνικό ποσοστό (6%) ανεργίας; Ερωτώ. «Σαφώς, όχι. Είναι απαράδεκτα υψηλό το εθνικό ποσοστό ανεργίας και οφείλουμε να αγωνιστούμε υπερκομματικά για τη μείωσή του. Δυστυχώς, οι Λίμπεραλς δεν ενδιαφέρονται για την ανεργία, ιδεολογία τους προβλέπει την ύπαρξη ανέργων για εκμετάλλευση από τα οργανωμένα συμφέροντα. Αυτό διαφαίνεται από τη στάση τους έναντι της αυτοκινητοβιομηχανίας και της Qantas. Μόνο το Εργατικό Κόμμα πιστεύει στην πλήρη απασχόληση. Επί τη ευκαιρία να ειπώ, ότι με ξένισε ο αριθμός των προσλήψεων (80,000) που έγιναν τον παρελθόντα μήνα. Εκτιμώ, ότι δεν πρόκειται για πραγματικό αριθμό, αλλά για πλασματικό προϊόν του τρόπου υπολογισμού της ανεργίας από την Εθνική Στατιστική Υπηρεσία».

Βάλετε κατά της κυβέρνησης για την αποχώρηση από την Αυστραλία της αυτοκινητοβιομηχανίας και άλλων κλάδων της βιομηχανίας. Τι όφειλε να κάνει η κυβέρνηση, να ανοίξει τα δημόσια ταμεία στις εν λόγω βιομηχανίες; «Όχι, δεν λέμε κάτι τέτοιο. Δεν το πράξαμε, άλλωστε, ως κυβέρνηση. Αυτό που λέμε είναι, ότι η κυβέρνηση μπορούσε, αν ενδιαφέρονταν, να «βάλει πλάτη», ώστε να μην κλείσουν τα εργοστάσια και να μην πριμοδοτήσουμε τους εργάτες άλλων χωρών με την αρνητική πολιτική μας». Ο κ. Shorten κατηγορεί την κυβέρνηση και για συστηματική υπονόμευση της εθνικής οικονομίας, με τις προεκλογικές και μετεκλογικές «υπερβολές της» περί «δημοσιονομικής κρίσης» λέει.

Προεκλογικά ο Συνασπισμός προειδοποιούσε για «δημοσιονομική κρίση». Μετεκλογικά, οι αριθμοί διαψεύδουν την κυβέρνηση. Η αξιωματική αντιπολίτευση τι βλέπει;» Ερωτώ.
«Οι Λίμπεραλς υπερέβαλαν προεκλογικά και εξακολουθούν να υπερβάλλουν, προφανώς διότι κάτι μαγειρεύουν στο λαό. Οι καιροί δεν είναι εύκολοι, κατά την έννοια ότι αυξάνονται οι δαπάνες του κράτους και περιορίζεται το εισόδημα. Η οικονομία, όμως, δεν έχει τα χάλια, που ισχυρίζεται η κυβέρνηση για να βάλει χέρι στις κρατικές δαπάνες.
Ο θησαυροφύλακας, Joe Hockey, έχει στα χέρια του τις εκτιμήσεις της Επιτροπής Δημοσιονομικού Ελέγχου – Audit Committee. Γιατί δεν τις ανακοινώνει; Γιατί παραπλανά το λαό με υπερβολές;
Θα συμβούλευα τον κ. Hockey να είναι ειλικρινής με το λαό, να μην παίζει με την αγωνία του και να μην υπονομεύει την οικονομία για πολιτικό όφελος». Απαντά.
Προκαλούμε τον κ. Shorten να τοποθετηθεί στο επίμαχο θέμα της «εξυγίανσης» του συνδικαλιστικού κινήματος, που επιχειρεί η κυβέρνηση Abbott με τη διενέργεια Βασιλικής Έρευνας (Royal Commission).

Η κυβέρνηση σας ζητά επίμονα να πάψετε να συμπεριφέρεστε σαν συνδικαλιστής μέσα στη βουλή και να συνεισφέρετε στην προσπάθεια εξυγίανσης του συνδικαλιστικού κινήματος. Τι απαντάτε;
«Στόχος της κυβέρνησης δεν είναι η εξυγίανση του συνδικαλιστικού κινήματος, είναι η φθορά του Εργατικού Κόμματος. Εμείς, που δηλώνουμε «μηδενική ανοχή» στη διαφθορά και στηρίζουμε την εξυγίανση του συνδικαλιστικού κινήματος λέμε, ότι δεν χρειάζεται Βασιλική Έρευνα για την επιτυχία αυτού του στόχου.
Εμείς λέμε, ότι υπάρχει η αστυνομία η οποία έχει τους μηχανισμούς διερεύνησης καταγγελιών για διαφθορά και παραπομπή των παραβατών του Νόμου στη δικαιοσύνη.
Κατά τη γνώμη μας η Βασιλική Έρευνα είναι το προπέτασμα καπνού πίσω από το οποίο η κυβέρνηση μεθοδεύει εντατικά την εξόντωση του Εργατικού Κόμματος και τη διάβρωση των δικαιωμάτων του εργάτη. Δεν θα επιτύχουν το στόχο τους, διότι δεν είναι όλοι οι συνδικαλιστές διεφθαρμένοι αφενός και αφετέρου διότι ο λαός αντιλαμβάνεται τις πραγματικές προθέσεις της κυβέρνησης».
Το Εργατικό Κόμμα διακηρύττει σε κάθε ευκαιρία, ότι είναι ο «ιστορικός υποστηρικτής του πολυπολτισμού. «Πώς βλέπετε την υποβάθμιση του πολυπολιτισμού από την κυβέρνηση Abbott;» ρωτάμε τον κ. Shorten.
«Δεν μας εκπλήσσει, μήτε εκπλήσσει τον αυστραλιανό λαό, ο οποίος αναγνωρίζει ότι το Εργατικό Κόμμα ήταν και παραμένει το πολιτικό κόμμα που στηρίζει τον πολυπολιτισμό υλικά και ηθικά» σημειώνει.
«Καταδικάζουμε απερίφραστα τη διακοπή των χορηγιών σε μεταναστευτικές κοινότητες και οργανώσεις και δεσμευόμαστε να ενισχύσουμε περαιτέρω τον πολυπολιτισμό με εξειδικευμένες παροχές για την περίθαλψη των ηλικιωμένων μεταναστών, για τη διδασκαλία γλωσσών, για την περίθαλψη νεοφερμένων μεταναστών, στους οποίους συμπεριλαμβάνονται και πολλοί Έλληνες.
Θα λάβουμε κάθε δυνατό μέτρο για την ταχύρυθμη αναγνώριση προσόντων από το εξωτερικό και τη χρηματοδότηση εκπαιδευτικών προγραμμάτων, που θα διευκολύνουν την ένταξη επιστημόνων και τεχνιτών που επιλέγουν να εγκατασταθούν μόνιμα στην Αυστραλία» δεσμεύεται.
Ο κ. Shorten αντικρούει με σθένος «τη θριαμβολογία» της κυβέρνησης, για τη μετεκλογική «αναχαίτιση» του ρεύματος των προσφύγων.
«Η κυβέρνηση ιδιοποιείται αδιάντροπα τα αποτελέσματα της πολιτικής, που εγκαινίασε το Εργατικό Κόμμα» σχολιάζει. «Εμείς καθιερώσαμε την εγκατάσταση των προσφύγων εκτός Αυστραλίας και δεν επιτρέπουμε στην κυβέρνηση να ιδιοποιείται τα θετικά αποτελέσματα της δικής μας πολιτικής και της εξαίρετης δουλειάς των ενόπλων δυνάμεων και των τελωνειακών Αρχών.
Η αξιωματική αντιπολίτευση στηρίζει κάθε διαφανή προσπάθεια της κυβέρνησης να εξαρθρώσει το διεθνές κίνημα διακίνησης προσφύγων. Απαιτούμε –εμείς και ο λαός– συνεχή, λεπτομερή και αντικειμενική ενημέρωση για τα αποτελέσματα της κυβερνητικής πολιτικής και τον τρόπο αντιμετώπισης των προσφύγων. Δεν αρκούν τα συνθήματα και η επιλεκτική ενημέρωσή μας από ην κυβέρνηση για τις «μεγάλες» επιτυχίες της» υποδεικνύει.
Ο κ. Shorten δηλώνει ενήμερος της κατάστασης του μέσου πολίτη και σχολιάζει, ότι υπάρχουν άνθρωποι που δυσκολεύονται να τα βγάλουν πέρα. Η κατάσταση αυτών των ανθρώπων, λέει, θα χειροτερέψει αν η κυβέρνηση Abbott προβεί σε δραστικές περικοπές των κρατικών δαπανών.
«Όποιος κρατά επαφή με το λαό γνωρίζει τα προβλήματά του. Γνωρίζει, ότι άνεργοι, ασθενείς, συνταξιούχοι, χαμηλόμισθοι δυσκολεύονται να τα βγάλουν πέρα. Καλώ την κυβέρνηση να μην τιμωρήσει τους ανθρώπους αυτούς με περικοπές, που θα αυξήσουν τις στερήσεις τους για την αντιμετώπιση των βασικών καθημερινών αναγκών τους».

The Greek Australian Aussie Rules team is hoping the Greek community flocks to McAlister & Ransford Ovals to show their support.

Twenty-five strong Greek Australian Aussie rules players will be hoping for silverware as they take part in the Harmony Cup this Sunday.

The Cup is designed to promote multiculturalism and social inclusion and will see eight multicultural teams challenge for the trophy.

Albania, Australia (a mostly indigenous team), Greece, Ireland, Israel, Lebanon, Team Africa and Team Harmony will have three games each before the grand final, to be played at 5pm.

Team Greece is up against Israel first at 11am, then Team Africa at 1pm and will finish against Team Harmony at 3pm.

The two teams ranked first and second at the conclusion of the preliminary round of matches will play each other in the Grand Final.

AFL Legend Ron Barassi will present the trophy to the winning team.

There will also be a women’s match with Australian and Ireland fielding teams at 2:00pm.

The Harmony Cup will be played at Royal Park North (McAlister & Ransford Ovals), 750 Park St, Parkville and will start at 10:00am.

Over 300 guests turned out to Moonlight Receptions to enjoy the night which including many dignitaries such as Minister Nicholas Kotsiras; Katerina Doukas, representative of the Greek Consul in Melbourne; Bruce Atkinson, Member of Legislative Council in Victorian Parliament and Bill Papastergiadis, President of the Greek Orthodox Community of Melbourne and Victoria.

HMAS SUCCESS

The HMAS Success is due to arrive in the search area for missing Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370 today, joining the increasingly international effort to find the missing jet.

Australian, New Zealand and American air searches found no trace of wreckage or debris in their sweeps of the search area southern Indian Ocean yesterday, despite deploying Self Locating Data Marker Buoys in the zone.

Two aircraft from China are also expected to be part of the search effort today, joining a Norwegian cargo vessel and one other merchant ship that are already in the search area, approximately 2500 kilometres southwest of Perth.

The search will be further bolstered on Sunday by two P-3 Orions from Japan.

Five Chinese ships and the British HMS Echo are also heading towards the southern Indian Ocean to assist.

“We are doing all that we can, devoting all the resources we can and we will not give up until all of the options have been exhausted,’’ said acting Prime Minister Warren Truss.

However he also tamped down expectations.

“Something that was floating on the sea that long ago may no longer be floating — it may have slipped to the bottom,’’ he said.

“It’s also certain that any debris or other material would have moved a significant distance over that time, potentially hundreds of kilometres.’’

Speaking from Papua New Guinea, where he is on an official visit, Prime Minister Tony Abbott told reporters he spoke with Chinese President Xi Jinping, who he described as “devastated.’’

“It’s about the most inaccessible spot that you could imagine on the face of the Earth, but if there is anything down there we will find it,’’ Mr Abbott said.

“We owe it to the families and the friends and the loved ones of the almost 240 people on Flight MH370 to do everything we can to try to resolve what is as yet an extraordinary riddle.’’

Experts say it is impossible to tell if the grainy satellite images of the two objects — one 24 meters long and the other measuring 5 meters — were debris from the plane. But officials have called this the best lead so far in the search that began on March 8 — two weeks ago today — after the plane vanished over the Gulf of Thailand on an overnight flight to Beijing.

Searchers relied mostly on trained spotters aboard the planes rather than radar because radar found nothing in the first day of the search Thursday, Australian officials said.

The search will focus more on visual sightings because civilian aircraft are being brought in. The military planes will continue to use both radar and spotters.

“Noting that we got no radar detections yesterday, we have replanned the search to be visual. So aircraft flying relatively low, very highly skilled and trained observers looking out of the aircraft windows and looking to see objects,’’ said John Young, manager of the maritime safety authority’s emergency response division.

A spokesman for the Norwegian cargo vessel Hoegh St. Petersburg said the ship, which has been in the area since Thursday, searched a strip of ocean stretching about 100 nautical miles (185 kilometres) yesterday using binoculars and unaided eyes.

“The visual observations are the most important. The fact that they are there and have the capacity to move in a specific pattern is the most important contribution,’’ he said.

Aircraft pieces have been found floating for days after a sea crash.

Peter Marosszeky, an aviation expert at the University of New South Wales, said the wing could remain buoyant for weeks if the fuel tanks inside were empty and had not filled with water.

Other experts said that if the aircraft breaks into pieces, normally only items such as seats and luggage would remain floating.

“We seldom see big metal (pieces) floating. You need a lot of (buoyant) material underneath the metal to keep it up,’’ said Lau Kin-tak, an expert in aircraft maintenance and accidents at Hong Kong Polytechnic University.
