TIM TAMS are celebrating 50 years of delighting the tastebuds of Aussie mouths, having burst onto the biscuit scene in 1964.
Back then, Arnott’s Tim Tam Original biscuits were the only options. Now, pretty much every flavour combination you can think of exists, from Tim Tam White to Tim Tam Honeycomb, and Tim Tam Dark Rum & Raisin.
As a result of this flavour innovation, Australians devour around 400 million Tim Tam biscuits each year — that’s 45 million packs.
To keep up with demand, Tim Tam original biscuits are produced at around 3000 biscuits per minute, which equates to approximately 60 biscuits per second. Their chocolate coating, which is made from three different types of chocolate, is produced at a rate of 20 tonnes per 24 hours.
It’s something the creator of Tim Tams, Ian Norris, could only have dreamt of. As Arnott’s Director of Food Technology for forty-two years, it took Mr Norris six years of trials to create the Tim Tam Original.
“The whole success of Tim Tams, and why it is so good, is the flavour of the crème in combination with the chocolate and the biscuit,” Mr Norris said at the time.
Mr Norris guarded the Tim Tam recipe so closely that he allegedly died without telling his family the exact concoction of cream, biscuit and chocolate needed to make Tim Tam’s so delightful. That secret is safely guarded within the walls of the Arnott’To celebrate the 50th Anniversary, Arnott’s and Qantas are launching a year of togetherness. They’re giving Australians the chance to reconnect with someone they love anywhere in the world via the ‘50 flights in 50 days’ on-pack promotions factory.
