Andrew Liveris to host inaugural dinner in June.
A $300 a head dinner in Melbourne on June 3 will celebrate the much-anticipated inauguration of The Hellenic Initiative Australia.
The Hellenic Initiative (THI) was first established in the United States in 2012 to assist crisis relief and encourage business entrepreneurship in Greece.
Since its conception, THI has provided hundreds of thousands of dollars to NGOs in Greece which provide assistance to some of those most severely affected by the economic crisis, along with venture capital programs. The organisation’s funds are provided by hundreds of US-based donors.
THI’s executive director Mark Arey visited Melbourne and Sydney in March in preparation for the launch of its Australian arm.
Darwin-born Andrew Liveris, president and CEO of the Dow Chemical Company and chair of THI in the United States, will host the dinner in association with ANZ.
THI’s board members include solicitor and chair of South Sydney NRL club Nick Pappas who will give a keynote address at the event. Also giving presentations will be the organisation’s program director in Athens, Michael Printzos, and THI Australia board member Peter Abraam.
