A harsh new privatisation fund to be jointly supervised by Greek and foreign officials underway.

Lawmakers are on Tuesday night set to vote on a new round of prior actions demanded by creditors in exchange for a further 1 billion euros in bailout loans, a package that is widely expected to pass as contentious reforms including a pension overhaul and a new tax bill have been put off until January.

The new multi-bill of measures foresees the creation of a new privatisation fund, to be jointly supervised by Greek and foreign officials, the partial sell-off of Greece’s power transmission operator ADMIE, regulations allowing the sale of some nonperforming loans held by Greek banks, and a unified wage structure for civil servants.

Although some of the measures have prompted objections by coalition MPs, the government is not expected to suffer any defections on Tuesday.

A key reason is that authorities won some time by putting off until January hugely unpopular plans for pension sector reform and postponing until mid-February a decision on whether the mortgages on first homes and loans held by small and medium-sized businesses will also be opened up to a new market selling NPLs. The regulations going to a vote on Tuesday night only concern loans held by large corporations, with a staff of more than 250 people and a turnover in excess of 50 million euros a year, and mortgages on properties that are not first homes.

Nevertheless Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras has come under fire for conceding on another “red line” he had once promised not to cross, namely the sale of loans and mortgages to so-called distressed debt funds.

In a bid to keep control of SYRIZA ahead of Tuesday’s vote, and with a difficult January looming, Tsipras has been meeting with leftist MPs.

Key government ministers did their best to justify their policies during a tense debate in Parliament on Monday. Faced with a barrage of criticism from the opposition, Finance Minister Euclid Tsakalotos declared, “I’m doing what I can under difficult circumstances in here and out there.”

Assuming the multi-bill gets the green light on Tuesday night, Greek officials must take a series of actions, mostly administrative, on Wednesday to clinch the release of the 1 billion euros by Friday. The Euro Working Group is to convene on Thursday night and is expected to approve the release of the bailout cash despite some fears about delays.

But it was clear, even before Tuesday’s vote, that creditors expect much more from Greece. In comments at an investors’ conference in New York on Monday, the International Monetary Fund’s envoy to Greece, Delia Velculescu, said the government’s proposals for pension reform would need to be improved if the country is to meet primary surplus targets. She also repeated the Fund’s insistence on the need for the country’s debt to be reduced.

Qantas is on track for what could be a record first half after announcing it will more than double its pre-tax profit for the six months to December 31.

The airline on Tuesday said improved revenue, cost cutting and continued lower fuel prices had put it on course for a pre-tax underlying profit of between $875 million and $925 million.

That’s a significant increase on the $367 million it reported in the prior corresponding period and in the region of the record $905 million for the first half of the 2008 financial year, a result that laid the platform for a record full year pre-tax profit of $1.41 billion.

Beating that would put Qantas on course to report a net profit in excess of that year’s record $969.7 million.

‘We’ve seen improved revenue in our domestic and international operations, reduced costs across the group through the Qantas Transformation program, and expect another record half-year result from Qantas Loyalty,’ chief executive Alan Joyce said.

‘This strong performance is underpinned by our continued focus on delivering the best service for our customers in all of the markets we serve.’

Qantas bounced back into the black in FY15, after the previous year’s record loss, thanks to its $2 billion Qantas transformation program, revenue growth and a hedging program that exploited falling fuel prices.

Those factors are in play again this financial year.

Qantas reported a full year net profit of $557 million for FY15, almost all of which was handed back to shareholders.

Homicide detectives have arrested a man and are expected to charge him with the murder of Khandalyce Pearce.

Daniel James Holdom, 41, was arrested at 8.30am on Tuesday and is currently being interviewed by detectives at Parramatta Police Station.
Police expect to charge him with the murder of Khandalyce in 2008. Her remains were found in a suitcase on the side of a highway in South Australia earlier this year.

He has already been charged with the alleged murder of her mother, Karlie Pearce-Stevenson. Her remains were found in Belanglo State Forest in 2008.

Police will allege Holdom killed Ms Pearce-Stevenson, 20, first in December 2008 before killing Khandalyce days later.

It was seven years before the toddler’s bones were found on the side of the Karoonda Highway at Wynarka in July.

Police only linked the two cases in October following a Crime Stoppers tip-off and a major DNA breakthrough.

The investigation has spanned four states, including the ACT, NSW, South Australia and the Northern Territory.

The mother and daughter left their life and family in Alice Springs between 2006 and 2008 to travel Australia.

Police say a large scale fraud was carried out in the young mother’s and daughter’s names after their deaths.

Their identity documents wee hijacked and more than $90,000 was funnelled through Ms Pearce-Stevenson’s bank account.

Police allege people with knowledge of her death used her mobile phone to provide a false proof of life to Ms Pearce-Stevenson’s family.

It was also used to ask Ms Pearce-Stevenson’s mother, who died from cancer in 2012, for money.

Holdom’s ex-girlfriend, Hazel Passmore, has been questioned at length by South Australian detectives over the alleged fraud.

She was left in a wheelchair in 2008 after Holdom crashed the car they were in, killing two of her children.

No charges have been laid in relation to the fraud.

The arrests come four days after Ms Pearce-Stevenson and Khandalyce were farewelled at a funeral in Alice Springs.

Πολλά παιδιά που φοιτούν σ’ αυτό δεν έχουν εμβολιαστεί

Το 1/4 των μαθητών, περίπου 80 από τα 320 παιδιά που φοιτούν στο δημοτικό σχολείο Brunswick North West αρρώστησαν από ανεμοβλογιά γεγονός που προκάλεσε συναγερμό όχι μόνο στο σχολείο αλλά και στις υγειονομικές Αρχές της Βικτώριας.

Το γεγονός ότι ένα μεγάλο ποσοστό των παιδιών που φοιτούν στο σχολείο αυτό δεν έχει εμβολιαστεί ανάγκασε το υπουργείο Υγείας της Πολιτείας να δώσει ρητή εντολή στον διευθυντή, για έγγραφη προειδοποίηση προκειμένου να αποφευχθεί η εξάπλωση της αρρώστιας σε άλλες κοινωνικές ομάδες.

Ο διευθυντής, Trevor Bowen, δήλωσε ότι «το Υπουργείο μας ζήτησε να συμπεριλάβουμε οδηγία προς όλα τα ηλικιωμένα άτομα, γονείς με νεογέννητα και παιδιά μικρής ηλικίας αλλά και άλλες ευπαθείς ομάδες, να μην πηγαίνουν στο σχολείο γιατί διακινδυνεύουν να κολλήσουν τον ιό.

Το συγκεκριμένο σχολείο είναι γνωστό ότι δέχεται παιδιά που δεν έχουν εμβολιαστεί, κάτι που δηλώνεται ξεκάθαρα στα πληροφοριακά φυλλάδια και στην ιστοσελίδα του σχολείου. Την ίδια στιγμή, ενώ το ποσοστό των παιδιών που έχουν εμβολιαστεί στην ευρύτερη περιοχή κυμαίνεται στο 92%, στο συγκεκριμένο σχολείο δεν ξεπερνά το 73%.

Στη Βικτώρια αν κάποιο παιδί ασθενήσει από τον ιό της ανεμοβλογιάς, οι γονείς του είναι υποχρεωμένοι να υποβάλουν άμεσα έγγραφο που να πιστοποιεί τα εμβόλια που έχει ή δεν έχει κάνει, αλλά δεν απαγορεύεται για παιδιά που δεν έχουν εμβολιαστεί να φοιτήσουν στα σχολεία της Πολιτείας.

Μεταξύ των συλληφθέντων και ένας 15χρονος

Κατηγορίες απαγγέλθηκαν σε πέντε άτομα που συνελήφθησαν στην Αυστραλία, στο πλαίσιο αντιτρομοκρατικής έρευνας που διεξάγεται για το ενδεχόμενο σχέδιο επίθεσης εναντίον κυβερνητικού κτιρίου.

Όπως ανακοίνωσε η Αστυνομία, ένας 15χρονος και ένας 20χρονος που συνελήφθησαν, κατηγορούνται για «συνωμοσία με σκοπό την προετοιμασία τρομοκρατικής ενέργειας». Παρόμοιες κατηγορίες απαγγέλθηκαν και εις βάρος άλλων τριών ατόμων τα οποία είχαν νωρίτερα τεθεί υπό κράτηση.

Στο πλαίσιο των ίδιων ερευνών, συνελήφθησαν πέρυσι 15 άτομα. Οι κατηγορίες που απαγγέλθηκαν προκύπτουν από τεκμήρια που συγκεντρώθηκαν αυτόν τον ένα χρόνο που πέρασε από την περυσινή επιχείρηση (Δεκέμβριος 2015).

Οι συλλήψεις γίνονται στο πλαίσιο της επιχείρησης Appleby, μιας έρευνας για άτομα που φέρονται να εμπλέκονται σε πράξεις ή σε σχέδια πράξεων τρομοκρατίας στην Αυστραλία, σε ταξίδια στη Συρία ή στο Ιράκ και στη χρηματοδότηση τρομοκρατικών οργανώσεων.

Η Αυστραλία έχει ενισχύσει εδώ και έναν χρόνο το επίπεδο συναγερμού, έχει εγκρίνει μια νέα νομοθεσία στον τομέα της ασφάλειας και έχει διεξαγάγει σειρά αντιτρομοκρατικών επιχειρήσεων.

Η πιο πρόσφατη πραγματοποιήθηκε τον περασμένο Οκτώβριο μετά τη δολοφονία ενός υπαλλήλου της αστυνομίας. Τέσσερις άνθρωποι συνελήφθησαν κατά τη διάρκεια συντονισμένων ερευνών που πραγματοποίησαν περισσότεροι από 200 αστυνομικοί σε πολλά κτίρια στο Σίδνεϊ.

Μεταξύ των συλληφθέντων ήταν και ο ύποπτος για τη δολοφονία αυτή, Φαρχάντ Τζαμπάρ, 15 ετών.

Σύμφωνα με την κυβέρνηση, έξι επιθέσεις αποτράπηκαν στην Αυστραλία στη διάρκεια του περασμένου έτους.

Greek Australian Andrew Liveris is set to lead a $US160 billion ($221.3b) agricultural behemoth, as Dow Chemical and DuPont enter late-stage talks in a deal to create the world’s second-largest chemicals company.

Mr Liveris is the mastermind behind the Hellenic Initiative (THI), a global non-profit organisation whose mission is to mobilise the Greek diaspora to support sustainable economic renewal and crisis relief for Greece and its people.

Currently Dow’s chief executive, Mr Liveris is expected to be executive chairman of the new company, with DuPont chief executive Edward Breen keeping that title.

Mr Liveris has enjoyed much success as the head of Dow, leading the company’s recovery from near-insolvency during the financial crisis.

The chemical giants, which have a market capitalisation of about $US60b each, could announce a merger in coming days, according to The Wall Street ­Journal.

Adelaide Festival Centre will be ‘home’ for fourteen replica Greek marble pieces thanks to the Foundation for Hellenic Studies.

Just over a year ago, in October 2014, the Foundation for Hellenic Studies in SA made its first attempt to raise awareness on the most famous heritage dispute between Greece and the United Kingdom – the return of the Parthenon Marbles to their country of origin, Greece.
The #ReturnTheMarbles campaign was set up on social media and immediately received an overwhelming response.
“Our Facebook page alone reached almost 70,000 supporters within the year,” explains Mr Harry Patsouris, who is one of the directors of the foundation.
“After collaborating with the Greek government in late October 2015 we managed to secure fourteen replica pieces – including one ‘Karyatis’ – to be displayed for 100 days during the Festival of Arts 2015 hosted by the Adelaide Festival Centre, which is South Australia’s principal performing arts venue.”
Created by Greek sculptor Phidias and his assistants over 2000 years ago as part of the Parthenon Temple and other buildings on the Acropolis of Athens, the marbles were illegally transported from Greece to London between 1801 and 1805 by Scottish diplomat Lord Elgin.
According to the British government, Lord Elgin claimed to have obtained in 1801 a ‘controversial’ permit from the Sublime Porte – the central government of the Ottoman Empire – which ruled Greece at the time.
Reading through the 200-year-old debate between Greece and the UK over the ownership and placement of the Parthenon Sculptures, it is evident that several attempts have been made by the country that introduced the idea of democracy to the rest of the world to resolve the issue.
The outcome of all repatriation proposals has sadly not worked in the favour of art, history or civilisation.
To make matters worse, the British Museum has – according to media – been considering the loaning of three marble pieces to other foreign museums, an even more outrageous act for the Greek people.
The Parthenon Marbles have been in the spotlight, hitting headlines many times in the past year when human rights lawyer Amal Clooney joined the Greek government’s legal advisory team in its bid to secure the return of the sculptures from the United Kingdom.
Late actress Melina Mercouri, who served as Greece’s minister of culture during the 1980s and 1990s, campaigned hard for an amicable settlement but no progress was made.
Only a few years ago, in 2000, the Greek government made another failed attempt when George Papandreou, foreign minister at the time, invited the British Museum and consequently the British government to settle the question of ownership and repatriate the remaining sculptures to their place of origin, with the plan to have them permanently displayed in the new Acropolis Museum.
As a sign of ‘good will’, the Greek government pledged to loan to the museum’s purpose-built Duveen Gallery rare and even newly-discovered Greek antiquities (which have never left the Greek borders) for exhibitions.

The proposal was rejected by the British.
Unfortunately, last Tuesday 8 December, current Greek Minister of Culture, Education and Religious Affairs Professor Aristides Baltas announced that Greece acknowledges the efforts made by the international association but the decision has been made to withdraw from the legal battle to obtain the marbles, mainly out of fear of losing the case.
“We now have more allies in the country’s quest to reunite the ancient artefacts.
“This is upping the pressure, but the British Museum is resisting,” announced Professor Baltas.
It is at this point that another Greek word comes to mind.
Paradox.
Most people these days would agree that breaking up a piece of art goes against the grain of artistic and archaeological integrity.
It follows, then, that Greece does not need to elaborate as to why those classical sculptures should return to their country of origin.
“A horseman has his head in Athens and his body in London. The Greek god Poseidon has his torso separated between Greece and the UK,” Amal Clooney explained while making an impassioned plea to Britain to return the Parthenon Marbles to Greece during her three-day visit to Athens last year.
The Parthenon Marbles have tremendous historical significance and have influenced numerous architectural masterpieces around the world.
“Our aim is to promote Hellenism through various cultural events in Australia and we ask you to join us on this odyssey to #ReturnTheMarbles,” concludes Mr Patsouris.

The Russian Defence Ministry says one of its warships has been forced to fire warning shots at a Turkish fishing vessel in the Aegean Sea to avoid a collision.

The ministry says it has summoned the Turkish military attache over the incident.

The Interfax news agency said that the Turkish vessel failed to respond to earlier warnings from the destroyer Smetlivy and had sharply changed course after shots were fired before passing within 500 metres of the Russian warship.

The incident, which occurred on Sunday morning, is likely to heighten tensions between the two nations who are seriously at odds over Syria and the Turkish shooting down of a Russian military jet last month.Russian President Vladimir Putin, who called the downing of the plane a “stab in the back”, has since imposed economic sanctions on Turkey as a retaliatory measure.

Earlier this month, Turkey complained to Russia over an incident in which a Russian sailor was pictured brandishing a rocket launcher on the deck of a naval ship passing through Istanbul.

Με ένα γκολ και μία ασίστ, ο Νίκος Καρέλης ήταν το πιο… λαμπρό αστέρι του Παναθηναϊκού στη δύσκολη νίκη επί του Αστέρα Τρίπολης (ΠΑΟ – Αστέρας 2-0) στην άδεια –λόγω τιμωρίας- Λ.Αλεξάνδρας.

Ο Ολυμπιακός επικράτησε και του Παναιτωλικού (Ολυμπιακός – Παναιτωλικός 1-0), φτάνοντας στο 14×14, ωστόσο οι παίκτες του Μάρκο Σίλβα αποδοκιμάστηκαν στο τέλος και κατά τη διάρκεια του αγώνα για την πολύ κακή απόδοσή τους απέναντι στην ομάδα του Αγρινίου που αγωνιζόταν με δέκα παίκτες από το 45′.

Πυρ εναντίον τουρκικού αλιευτικού σκάφους, στα ανοιχτά της Λήμνου, άνοιξε το ρωσικό αντιτορπιλικό Smetlivy, για να αποφύγει τη μεταξύ τους σύγκρουση. Το περιστατικό σημειώθηκε στις 08:30 (ώρα Ελλάδας) σήμερα, Κυριακή, στα 22 χιλιόμετρα από τις ακτές της Λήμνου και επιβεβαιώνεται από το ρωσικό υπουργείο Αμυνας.

Το περιστατικό επιβεβαίωσε και το ελληνικό υπουργείο Αμυνας, σημειώνοντας ότι και τα δύο σκάφη έπλεαν σε διεθνή ύδατα. Επίσης, επιβεβαιώνει τη ρωσική πλευρά, δηλαδή ότι προηγήθηκαν οι ρωσικές προειδοποιήσεις πριν πέσουν τα πυρά.

Το πλήρωμα του αντιτορπιλικού εντόπισε το πρωί της Κυριακής τουρκικό αλιευτικό σε απόσταση ενός χιλιομέτρου, το οποίο όμως δεν επικοινωνούσε με το ρωσικό σκάφος και δεν ανταποκρινόταν στα φωτεινά σινιάλα.

Όταν το τουρκικό σκάφος έφτασε στα 600 μέτρα, το ρωσικό αντιτορπιλικό άνοιξε πυρ για να αποφύγει την πρόσκρουση.

Σύμφωνα με το ρωσικό υπουργείο Αμυνας το τουρκικό σκάφος άλλαξε αμέσως πορεία και, χωρίς να επικοινωνήσει με το ρωσικό πλήρωμα, προσπέρασε το Smetlivy και συνέχισε να πλέει κοντά του σε απόσταση 540 μέτρων.

Η απόσταση μεταξύ των δύο σκαφών «εγγυάτο» ότι δεν θα υπήρχε πλήγμα στο τουρκικό σκάφος από τα πυρά, διευκρινίζεται στην ανακοίνωση.

Μετά το περιστατικό, ο αναπληρωτής υπουργός Άμυνας Ανατόλι Αντόνοφ κάλεσε τον τούρκο στρατιωτικό ακόλουθο Αχμέτ Χακάμ Γκιουνές και του απηύθυνε «αυστηρή προειδοποίηση για τις ενδεχόμενες αρνητικές συνέπειες απερίσκεπτων ενεργειών της Άγκυρας απέναντι στο ρωσικό στρατιωτικό σύνταγμα» που έχει σταλεί στη Συρία στο πλαίσιο των αεροπορικών πληγμάτων εναντίον της τζιχαντιστικής οργάνωσης Ισλαμικό κράτος, υπογραμμίζει το υπουργείο.

Η Ρωσία εξέφρασε κυρίως «τη βαθιά ανησυχία της έναντι των προκλητικών πράξεων εκ μέρους της Τουρκίας όσον αφορά το ρωσικό αντιτορπιλικό Smetlivy» σημείωσε.

«Είναι χάρη σε μια καλοτυχία που μπορέσαμε να αποφύγουμε μια τραγωδία» προστίθεται στην ανακοίνωση του ρωσικού υπουργείου Άμυνας.

O υπουργός Εξωτερικών της Τουρκίας Μεβλούτ Τσαβούσογλου, που βρίσκεται στη Ρώμη για να παραστεί στις συνομιλίες για την Λιβύη, δήλωσε ότι η Άγκυρα ερευνά το περιστατικό με το ρωσικό αντιτορπιλικό στο Αιγαίο και θα εκδώσει μια ανακοίνωση μόλις συγκεντρώσει περισσότερες πληροφορίες, κυρίως από τους αλιείς που ενεπλάκησαν σε αυτό.

«Έχουμε ενημερωθεί για την ανακοίνωση της ρωσικής πλευράς… Εμείς θα εκδώσουμε μια ανακοίνωση σχετικά με το περιστατικό αφού μιλήσουμε με τους αλιείς» είπε ο Τσαβούσογλου, όπως μετέδωσε το τουρκικό τηλεοπτικό δίκτυο Habertuk.

Ο ίδιος επανέλαβε την θέση της Άγκυρας ότι θέλει να διευθετήσει τις όποιες δυσκολίες στις σχέσεις της με τη Ρωσία και ότι δεν επιθυμεί την κλιμάκωση της έντασης, ενώ επισήμανε ότι το περιστατικό θα τεθεί στο επίκεντρο διαπραγματεύσεων.

τόνισε ο ίδιος, σε δηλώσεις που μετέδωσε το τουρκικό τηλεπτικό δίκτυο TRT Turk.
