Μια Ρεάλ Μαδρίτης από… άλλον πλανήτη, διέλυσε με το «εκκωφαντικό» 9-1 τη Γρανάδα στο πλαίσιο της 29ης αγωνιστικής του ισπανικού πρωταθλήματος, ξεσπώντας στην άτυχη ομάδα της Ανδαλουσίας για τα τελευταία ανεπιτυχή αποτελέσματά της.

Η «βασίλισσα» πρόσφερε γκολ και θέαμα στους οπαδούς της που βρέθηκαν σήμερα το μεσημέρι στο «Σαντιάγκο Μπερναμπέου», έχοντας απόλυτο πρωταγωνιστή τον σούπερ σταρ Κριστιάνο Ρονάλντο, ο οποίος σημείωσε τα πέντε από τα εννέα γκολ της ομάδας του.

Μετά το ντέρμπι με τη Ρεάλ στο «Καμπ Νου», ο Ζερεμί Ματιέ σκόραρε για δεύτερο συνεχόμενο παιχνίδι της Μπαρτσελόνα, χαρίζοντάς της τρεις υπερπολύτιμους βαθμούς στη μάχη για την κατάκτηση του ισπανικού πρωταθλήματος.

Με γκολ του Γάλλου αμυντικού στο 74΄ (κεφαλιά μετά από εκτέλεση φάουλ του Τσάβι), οι «μπλαουγκράνα» επικράτησαν στο Βίγκο 1-0 της πολύ επικίνδυνης Θέλτα και διατήρησαν τη διαφορά των τεσσάρων βαθμών από τη Ρεάλ στην κορυφή της πριμέρα ντιβιζιόν.

Η ομάδα του Λουίς Ενρίκε είχε προβλήματα στο πρώτο ημίχρονο και χρειάστηκαν κάποιες επεμβάσεις του Κλαούντιο Μπράβο για να διατηρηθεί το «μηδέν», αλλά σταδιακά ανέβασε την απόδοσή της, πέτυχε το γκολ και ξεκίνησε με μία σημαντική νίκη τον δύσκολο -όσο και καθοριστικό- Απρίλιο.

Η Βαλένθια έχασε δύο πολύτιμους βαθμούς, στη μάχη που δίνει για έξοδο στο Τσάμπιονς Λιγκ της επόμενης περιόδου, καθώς παραχώρησε «λευκή» ισοπαλία στη Βιγιαρεάλ.

Οι «νυχτερίδες» υποχώρησαν στην τέταρτη θέση της κατάταξης, έναν βαθμό πίσω από την Ατλέτικο, ενώ η πέμπτη Σεβίλη ακολουθεί σε απόσταση τριών βαθμών και απειλεί την ομάδα του Νούνο Εσπίριτο, η οποία μάλιστα την προσεχή Πέμπτη έχει μία πολύ δύσκολη έξοδο στο «Σαν Μαμές» απέναντι στην Αθλέτικ Μπιλμπάο.

Τους τάφους δύο ιερέων έφεραν στο φως οι έρευνες του Γαλλικού Ινστιτούτου Ανατολικών Σπουδών στη Νεκρόπολη της Σακκάρα στην Αίγυπτο. Οι τάφοι αποκαλύφθηκαν σε εξαιρετική κατάσταση και για άλλη μία φορά οι επιστήμονες αντίκρισαν με θαυμασμό τις τοιχογραφίες στο εσωτερικό τους.

Οι τάφοι χρονολογούνται στην περίοδο της ηγεμονίας του Φαραώ Πέπι του Β’, κατά την έκτη δυναστεία. Στο εσωτερικό τους βρέθηκαν αποσπασματικά οστά, αλλά και κτερίσματα.

Οι τοιχογραφίες, στις οποίες διακρίνονται σκηνές από θρησκευτικές τελετές, είναι τόσο καλά διατηρημένες που, όπως δήλωσε ο υπουργός Αρχαιοτήτων της Αιγύπτου, «είναι σαν να δημιουργήθηκαν χθες» και όχι πριν από 4.200 χρόνια.

«Οι τοιχογραφίες μάς δίνουν σημαντικές πληροφορίες για τις θρησκευτικές τελετές αυτής της περιόδου, ενώ αποκαλύπτουν την αξία των αρχαίων Αιγύπτιων που τις φιλοτέχνησαν» τόνισε ο ίδιος.

Σύμφωνα με τον γάλλο αιγυπτιολόγο και επικεφαλής των ερευνών Βασίλ Ντόμπρεφ οι ταφές εντοπίστηκαν σε μεγάλο βάθος, στα 6 και 12 μέτρα.

Κάθε τάφος είναι χτισμένος σε δύο επίπεδα: το ανώτερο επίπεδο έχει κατασκευαστεί από πλίνθους, ενώ το κατώτερο επίπεδο βρίσκεται στο εσωτερικό ενός λαξευμένου βράχου.

Όπως υποστήριξε ο επικεφαλής της Υπηρεσίας Αρχαιοτήτων της Γκίζας, Καμάλ Ουαχίντ, και οι δύο τάφοι έχουν συληθεί, αφού τα οστά βρέθηκαν αποσπασματικά και όχι σε σαρκοφάγους, ενώ τα κτερίσματα είναι ελάχιστα. Ο ίδιος ανέφερε ότι οι τάφοι είναι σχεδόν πανομοιότυποι.

Panathinaikos won its fourth consecutive Greek basketball cup and a record 16th overall, downing Apollon Patras 68-53 in Sunday’s final at Panathinaikos’s home Olympic Sports Hall, after a remarkably tough and eventful campaign.

The game was fairly one-sided as Apollon proved unable to match its big opponent on the day, with the contest seeming sealed from the first half that ended 39-20 in the Greens’ favor. Panathinaikos even gave its top-pick players a rest in the second half, allowing some of its youngest stars to shine, too.

Loukas Mavrokefalidis was the leading scorer for Panathinaikos with 13 points and the Most Valuable Player of the final, but Toarlyn Fitzpatrick was the game’s top scorer notching up 19 points for Apollon.

While the final was an easy proposition for the Greens, given also that the draw favored them in that it led to the game being held at their home court, but the way to the final had indeed been very difficult for the champions.

In the quarterfinals, held before the start of the league in early October, a depleted Panathinaikos (without James Gist) that was about to play its first competitive game under its new coach at the time, Dusko Ivanovic, hosted behind closed doors the well-prepared Olympiakos that appeared on paper to be the favorite for the match. And yet Panathinaikos snatched victory by one point (77-76), with a slam dunk by Esteban Batista a few seconds from the end.

Then Olympiakos challenged the result of the game in court, seeking to be awarded the ticket to the semifinals due to the presence of banned Panathinaikos owner (and then president) Dimitris Giannakopoulos. Originally the Reds had it their way, but the supreme sports court (ASEAD) ruled that the game’s result should not be annulled just because of the presence of the banned official at the stands.

That allowed Panathinaikos to face another challenge, traveling to Thessaloniki to play PAOK that had beaten it in the league. The Greens escaped with victory again right at the end (71-68), courtesy of a buzzer-beating Vladimir Jankovic three-pointer.

After all these trials (literally) and tribulations, the Greens had an easy ride in the final on Sunday, to add one more Greek Cup to its severely congested trophy cabinet, that also includes six European cups.

Prospects for 2015 become more bleak as the standoff between Greece and its creditors continues.

The Greek state may be able to service its debt and pay pensions and salaries to civil servants in April. However, the limited progress in negotiations between the government and the official creditors on the conclusion of the economic policy program increases uncertainty, reduces credit availability and adversely affects domestic demand despite less austerity. The economic damage has increased the risk of recession.

The combination of a better-than-expected tax collection in March, the postponement of some budget expenditures and internal borrowing from some state entities and other sources made it possible for the government to pay both creditors and pensioners and civil servants last month. Greece paid an estimated 2.5 billion euros to the IMF and other creditors in March without including T-bills.

Assuming tax revenues remain on track and more general government entities lend part of their cash reserves to the state, we would expect Greece to be able to meet its obligations to creditors in April but it will face a tougher hurdle in May. It is reminded the state owes about 458 million euros to the IMF on April 9 and has to find an additional 700 million euros or so for T-bills maturing on April 14 which are held by international investors and most likely will not be rolled over. It will also have to pay 194 million euros to private bondholders on April 17 and 80 million euros to the ECB on April 20, according to Bank of America Merrill Lynch (BofA).

Deputy Finance Minister Dimitris Mardas, who is in charge of the General Accounting Office, assured recently that the state will make the payment to the IMF on time and pay wages to some civil servants in the middle of the month. This contrasts with leaks in the press, citing other government officials’ warnings that Greece would run out of money on April 9. Although no one disputes that the central government is in a tough financial position, some abroad suspect these warnings are also part of a Greek strategy to get some funding from the EU via the EFSF or indirectly from the ECB.

Even if Greece is able to overcome this hurdle in April, it will have to pass another test in early May, assuming it has not reached an agreement with its creditors by then. It will have to pay 200 million euros to the IMF on May 1 and an additional 763 million on May 12, according to a recent report by BofA. Of course, the country has shown that it intends to honor its obligations so far and could be able to continue doing so in the rest of April and even May to the extent that it is able to mobilize the cash reserves of state entities, collect more revenues than targeted in the adjustment program and postpone expenditures to suppliers and others for the future, building arrears.

However, this policy combined with deposit outflows from local banks, have tightened credit conditions and have started taking their toll on the real economy. This has prompted some economists to revise downward their growth forecasts for the year. A few do not rule out a contraction or stagnation of real GDP (gross domestic product) in the first quarter. It is reminded that GDP went into red in the last quarter of 2014, interrupting the recovery that had started early that year.

The economic climate, a leading indicator, has deteriorated while manufacturers recorded a third straight monthly drop in output in March, according to Markit. Investment spending has also dropped while consumption spending is a question mark since no austerity measures have been taken but uncertainty appears to have some effect. This was apparent in retail sales, which fell 2.6 percent year-on-year in January and 18.7 percent compared to December 2014.

The new government has vowed not to take austerity measures that would take the primary budget surplus to 3 percent of GDP as targeted in the adjustment program for this year from an estimated 0.3 percent last year. However, it seems to have conceded some ground as its leaked list of proposed reforms showed it aims at a primary surplus above 3 percent of GDP from a projected 1.2 percent in the baseline scenario where no new measures are taken. Although the list does not contain direct tax increases and does include higher social expenditures, it aims at raising more tax revenues, from 4.7 to 6.1 billion euros, in the next nine months or so mainly by combating tax evasion.

Some senior economists in international banks are puzzled. “They plan to raise nearly 2 percent of GDP through taxation in just eight months. This will have a massive impact on private consumption… rendering the assumptions of the baseline scenario pretty meaningless,” said Vassilis Gkionakis, head of global FX strategy at UniCredit. Others agree that this will have a recessionary impact, arguing there is a misconception that “tax evasion is a sort of free money pot, which can improve the fiscal balance without any other economic effects whatsoever.” This could be true for offshore accounts and global transfer pricing schemes but it is not true for other taxes because they are taken straight out of the domestic economy.

Greece may able to pay off its creditors in April. However, the prospects for the economy become more bleak as the standoff between Greece and its creditors continues. The government may be true in its intention not to raise taxes and cut pensions and wages. Nevertheless, raising so much revenue in so short a time will have a contractionary effect.

As Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras prepared for a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin during a visit to Moscow on April 8-9, designed to boost bilateral ties, high-ranking European officials voiced concerns that the trip might play Russia against the European Union during negotiations with the Greek government.

Government sources told Kathimerini that Athens is determined to pursue a “multifaceted energy and economic policy.” In this context, the sources said, the aim is to co-sign a three-year action plan for the economy, commerce, research and technology.

The leftist leader appears unmoved by western concerns of a Greek geopolitical shift. That said, Tsipras does not intend to camouflage areas of disagreement such as Russia’s 2014 annexation of Crimea, unnamed aides told the newspaper.

Over the weekend, senior politicians from EU paymaster Germany expressed strong reservations over the visit.

European Parliament President Martin Schulz warned the Greek premier against “alienating” the EU. In an interview with Hannoversche Allgemeine Zeitung on Saturday, the German politician said it would be “unacceptable if Tsipras jeopardized Europe’s common policy on Russia in return for Russian help.”

Speaking to the same newspaper, Gunther Krichbaum, chairman of the Bundestag Committee on EU Affairs, said that if the Greek government believes it can find “salvation” in Moscow, “it is betting on the wrong horse.”

Criticism also came from the country’s economy minister, Sigmar Gabriel. “I can’t imagine that anyone in Athens is seriously playing with the idea of turning their back on Europe and falling into Moscow’s arms,” Gabriel told the Rheinische Post.

Greece faces another critical week with looming debt repayment obligations and the resumption of tough talks on a proposed list of reforms with the country’s international creditors amid renewed speculation about the possibility of a Greek default or an early general election.

Government officials sought to ease concerns over the weekend with reassurances that Greece is in a position to honor its debt to the IMF and to continue paying salaries and pensions. On Wednesday, Greece is to auction 1.4 billion euros in Treasury bills in a bid to raise the equivalent amount of debt maturing a week later though only about half that amount is held by foreign investors who are unlikely to participate in the sale. And on Thursday, it must repay a 450-million-euro debt to the International Monetary Fund. Even if it meets these two challenges, coffers must be replenished for subsequent obligations.

But, as talks with the creditors have been progressing at snail’s pace, there is very real concern about when a deal can be reached to allow the release of at least a portion of a pending 7.2-billion-euro loan tranche.

As Greek officials and creditor representatives remain far apart in talks, and divisions within the government remain over potential concessions, there are few hopes that a deal will be reached in a two-day session of the Euro Working Group due on Wednesday and Thursday. According to sources, the government is aiming to secure some progress in those two days of talks and a deal on the technical level by April 19, which would mean an agreement could be reached at a Eurogroup summit scheduled to take place in the Latvian capital of Riga. A lot of ground must be covered over the next two weeks if a deal is to be reached. At a Euro Working Group carried out by teleconference last week, one eurozone official lashed out at his Greek peers, Kathimerini understands, telling them: “It’s been nine weeks since the elections and you’ve done nothing.”

According to sources, the European Commission has shown the most understanding. Indeed, the EC is said to have suggested that eurozone governments cover Greece’s repayment to the IMF on Thursday before discovering that such a move would not be legal.

Greek Finance Minister Yanis Varoufakis was to meet with the head of the IMF, Christine Lagarde, in Washington on Sunday for “an informal discussion on the reform program of the Greek government,” the ministry said.

The list of proposed reforms has not satisfied creditors, who are said to be insisting on Greece approving at least some privatizations to raise revenue. There is a chance that pension and labor sector reforms could be postponed until later if Greece pushes through other revenue-raising measures now, Kathimerini understands. But that will require Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras clashing with radicals in his government such as Energy Minister Panagiotis Lafazanis, who repeated over the weekend that the government should honor its pre-election promises.

In view of the internal political strife and the impasse with creditors, Tsipras has been advised to consider calling a referendum or new general elections in June or even sooner, Kathimerini understands.

A DRAMATIC siege in a Melbourne restaurant has ended with a traumatised woman freed after being detained for more than seven hours and a man arrested and tasered by police.

Police ended a tense night of negotiations with the former restaurant employee who barricaded himself inside the Southbank restaurant when he agreed to free the 27-year-old Melbourne woman around 5.25am.

Police were called to the Ludlow restaurant around 10pm when a man, armed with a knife, had entered the restaurant taking an employee hostage. Police said the man, 35, was armed with a knife and was known to police.

It is believed the ex-employee had left the restaurant in the last week and was disgruntled about some employment issues.

When the man agreed to release his former colleague after more than seven hours, during which the surrounding area had been locked down and hundreds of people evacuated, police “had to taken action”.

“The male was tasered and as a precaution he was taken off to hospital,” Acting Inspector Travis McCarthy said.

The woman was said to be “very upset”.

“It was obviously a fairly traumatic experience for her,” Insp McCarthy said.

Police and paramedics have wheeled out the hostage-taker on a stretcher with oxygen support but sitting upright and conscious after armed tactical police from special operations group could be seen entering the building with paramedics on scene.

Authorities were called to Riverside Quay about 10pm after reports a man had begun making threats at the riverside premises.

The man barricaded himself in a part of the restaurant with a woman.

Police earlier extended the exclusion zone around the siege, pushing people off the public square near the site.

Two angle grinders were also carried by police into the cordoned-off area.

It is believed the woman’s boyfriend and workers from the restaurant were waiting at the scene.

Nearby Riverside Quay was closed to traffic and pedestrians between Cook St and Southgate Ave.

The incident is not believed to be ideologically motivated.

The Southbank promenade between the ‘love lock’ bridge and the Ludlow restaurant remains blocked.

Witnesses said they saw police storm the area with shields about 10.40pm.

Paramedics with a stretcher remained on standby at the scene as a crowd of concerned passers-by watched on.

A group of people believed to know those inside the restaurant watched on.

Police, both uniformed and in plain clothes, huddled near an entrance to a Riverside Quay building.

Cristina Grimaldi, who lives five minutes walk from the promenade, described the scene as like “a movie”.

“We were walking home and we saw the cops and we wondered what happened.

“It is the first time we have seen so many police.”

Police at the scene are diverting people away from the area saying a crime is currently being committed.

«Ελπίζω ότι αυτή η νέα ελπιδοφόρα ιστορική δυνατότητα θα γίνει πράξη με συγκεκριμένες συμφωνίες, όχι μόνο για το ρωσικό αγωγό, αλλά και συνολικότερα. Έχω την αίσθηση ότι η επίσκεψη του Αλέξη Τσίπρα στη Μόσχα και η συνάντησή του με τον Βλάντιμιρ Πούτιν μπορεί να αποτελέσουν ένα σημαντικό σταθμό σε αυτήν την κατεύθυνση» σημείωσε ο ίδιος.

Στη συνέχεια ο Π. Λαφαζάνης επισήμανε ότι «ένα νέο κεφάλαιο προωθημένης συνεργασίας στις ελληνορωσικές σχέσεις, που θα περιλαμβάνει και τον αγωγό ρωσικού φυσικού αερίου στο ελληνικό έδαφος, μπορεί να αλλάξει ριζικά και πολύ θετικά την πολιτική εικόνα και μορφή της περιοχής μας και της Ευρώπης».

Ταυτόχρονα συμπλήρωσε ότι «μια προωθημένη ελληνορωσική συμφωνία είναι βέβαιον ότι θα υποβοηθήσει τα μέγιστα τη θέση της χώρας μας στις διαπραγματεύσεις με την ΕΕ, την ώρα που η τελευταία αντιμετωπίζει τη νέα ελληνική κυβέρνηση με απίστευτη προκατάληψη και τη χώρα μας ως παραπεταμένη μισοαποικία».

Ο υπουργός ΠΑΠΕΝ επαναλαμβάνει ότι «οι τεμαχισμοί και οι ιδιωτικοποιήσεις στον τομέα της ενέργειας αποτελούν οριστικά παρελθόν», ενώ προσθέτει πως η νέα κυβέρνηση και η ΔΕΗ σε ουσιαστική συνεργασία μεταξύ τους και με πλήρη σεβασμό των διακριτών ρόλων τους, θα εκπονήσουν ένα νέο σχέδιο για την ανασυγκρότηση της ΔΕΗ ως ατμομηχανής μιας νέας παραγωγικής και κοινωνικής ανάπτυξης στη χώρα.

Ο Π. Λαφαζάνης ανακοινώνει πως μέσα στον Απρίλιο θα μειωθούν σημαντικά, περίπου κατά 15%, οι τιμές του φυσικού αερίου από τη ΔΕΠΑ και επίσης ότι βρίσκεται σε εξέλιξη η εκπόνηση συνολικού σχεδιασμού με στόχο τους επόμενους μήνες την ουσιαστική μείωση των τιμών ενέργειας για όλους τους καταναλωτές, με άξονες: προμήθεια φθηνότερων πρώτων υλών, έλεγχο των αγορών, αλλαγές στις αρμοδιότητες ΡΑΕ, ανασυγκρότηση αποδοτικότερη λειτουργία ενεργειακών δημοσίων επιχειρήσεων, ακύρωση προνομίων ιδιωτικών συμφερόντων.

Τέλος ο Π. Λαφαζάνης διαβεβαιώνει ότι προστασία περιβάλλοντος και αειφόρος ανάπτυξη συνιστούν για την κυβέρνηση κρίσιμες κι αδιαπραγμάτευτες προτεραιότητες, απόλυτα συμβατές με την παραγωγική ανασυγκρότηση της χώρας.

Mε φωνές, συμπλοκές και έφιππη αστυνομική παρουσία «γιορτάστηκε» το Μεγάλο Σάββατο των Καθολικών

Υπήρχε ένταση και πάθος και από τις δυο μεριές. Πάνω από 3.000 διαδηλωτές συγκρούστηκαν στην Federation Square και οι Αυστραλοί «ξύπνησαν», διαβάζοντας για το θέμα, αφού κυριαρχούσε στα πρωτοσέλιδα των κυριακάτικων εφημερίδων.

Οι δύο συγκεντρώσεις, η αντιρατσιστική και η ρατσιστική, με τους εκατοντάδες συμμετέχοντες, τα έντονα συνθήματα, τα πανό, την έφιππη αστυνομική παρουσία και τις συλλήψεις, συγκέντρωσαν τα φώτα της δημοσιότητας. Λόγω της έντασης, υπάρχει μία διάχυτη ανησυχία, καθώς η ατμόσφαιρα θυμίζει τις φορτισμένες στιγμές της δεκαετίας του ’90, ενώ και η εμπρηστική ομιλία της γνωστής Pauline Hanson, στο Μπρίσμπαν, κυριάρχησε στα χθεσινά ταμπλόιντ!

ΣΥΜΠΛΟΚΕΣ

ΜΕ ΤΡΑΥΜΑΤΙΣΜΟΥΣ

Η ομάδα Reclaim Australia (R.A.) θεώρησε επιτυχημένες τις πορείες που πραγματοποιήθηκαν το Σάββατο καθώς υπήρξε ανταπόκριση του κοινού ενάντια «στον ισλαμικό εξτρεμισμό», αλλά και στο γεγονός ότι «υπάρχουν μειονοτικές ομάδες που επιθυμούν να αλλάξουν την αυστραλιανή πολιτιστική ταυτότητα».

Η ομάδα, η σελίδα της οποίας στο Facebook, συγκεντρώνει πάνω από 22.200 φίλους, πραγματοποίησε 16 συλλαλητήρια στις πρωτεύουσες των Πολιτειών και Επικρατειών, αλλά και σε πολλές περιφερειακές και επαρχιακές πόλεις. Τα κύρια συνθήματα αφορούσαν το νόμο της Σαρίας, την πιστοποίηση για την πώληση προϊόντων χαλάλ (halal) και τον ισλαμικό εξτρεμισμό.

Τα αντανακλαστικά, όμως, των αντιρατσιστικών οργανώσεων λειτούργησαν αμέσως και, ταυτόχρονα με τις συγκεντρώσεις της R.A., η κατάσταση φορτίστηκε γρήγορα. Οι δρόμοι γύρω από τη Federation Square έκλεισαν και η μεγαλύτερη πλατεία της πόλης έγινε πεδίο μάχης δύο διαφορετικών ιδεολογιών.

Οι εκατοντάδες αστυνομικοί έστησαν οδοφράγματα για να διαχωρίσουν τους διαδηλωτές. Αυτά, αλλά και τα 11 αστυνομικά άλογα δεν ήταν αρκετά για να αποτρέψουν τις συμπλοκές, από τις οποίες υπήρξαν και κάποιοι μικροτραυματισμοί. Η αστυνομία της Βικτώριας συνέλαβε δύο άνδρες και μία γυναίκα, αλλά αφέθηκαν ελεύθεροι, ενώ ίσως τους αποδοθούν σύντομα κατηγορίες.

O διοργανωτής της αντιρατσιστικής πορείας, Mel Gregson, δήλωσε ότι η συμμαχία των κοινοτικών οργανώσεων, των συνδικάτων και των αριστερών ομάδων είχε επιλέξει να οργανώσει τη συγκέντρωσή της στη Federation Square ώστε να βρεθούν αντιμέτωποι με τους διαδηλωτές της R.Α.

ΜΙΑ ΓΝΩΣΤΗ ΑΠΟ ΤΑ ΠΑΛΙΑ

Πολλά στελέχη της R.A., σε δηλώσεις τους, προσπαθούσαν να πείσουν ότι οι διαδηλώσεις τους δεν ήταν ρατσιστικές ή αντι-ισλαμικές. «Δεν είμαστε ενάντια σε καμία φυλή ή θρησκεία. Είμαστε εναντίον των φανατικών από μία συγκεκριμένη θρησκεία» δήλωσε στο ABC το στέλεχος της R.A., John Oliver. Υποστήριξε ότι πολλοί μουσουλμάνοι της Μελβούρνης και του Σίδνεϊ είχαν ανακοινώσει ότι θα λάβουν μέρος στις πορείες «επειδή δεν τους αρέσει να βλέπουν αυτό που γίνεται (σ.σ. στη χώρα).

Ο Danny Nalliah από το κόμμα Rise Up Australia, δήλωσε ότι το κίνημα «δεν είναι εναντίον των μουσουλμάνων, αλλά είναι σε αντίθεση με τις διδασκαλίες του Ισλάμ». Και συμπλήρωσε χαρακτηριστικά: «Αγαπάμε τους Γερμανούς, αλλά είμαστε αντίθετοι με τη ναζιστική φιλοσοφία. Είμαστε αντίθετοι με την κομμουνιστική ιδεολογία, αλλά αγαπάμε τους Ρώσους και τους Κινέζους». Για να καταλήξει: «Είμαστε αντίθετοι με το Ισλάμ, αλλά αγαπάμε τους μουσουλμάνους».

«Λαμπερό» παρών στην πορεία της Βρισβάνης έδωσε και η πρώην ομοσπονδιακή βουλευτής, Pauline Hanson. Η επικεφαλής του κόμματος One Nation, στην ομιλία της, ανέφερε ότι οι πορείες της R.Α. είναι εναντίον του ρατσισμού και επιτέθηκε στα μέσα ενημέρωσης για την παραπληροφόρηση.

Μάλιστα, δήλωσε πληγωμένη από τις επιθέσεις των media, και ότι ήρθε ο καιρός να μιλήσει και να την κρίνει ο λαός. «Δεν είμαι ρατσίστρια. Η κριτική δεν είναι ρατσισμός. Είμαι μία περήφανη Αυστραλή, που μάχεται για τη δημοκρατία, τον πολιτισμό και τον (σ.σ. αυστραλιανό) τρόπο ζωής» κατέληξε στην ομιλία της η κ. Hanson.

ΤΙ ΕΓΙΝΕ ΕΚΤΟΣ ΜΕΛΒΟΥΡΝΗΣ

Στη Βρισβάνη συγκεντρώθηκαν 200-300 που διαμαρτυρήθηκαν ενάντια στο Ισλάμ. Στο Χόμπαρτ, ένας 30χρονος συνελήφθη για την επίθεση. Δύο διαδηλώτριες απομακρύνθηκαν από τη συγκέντρωση από την αστυνομία αλλά δεν τους αποδόθηκαν κατηγορίες.

Στο Σίδνεϊ, οι συγκεντρώσεις έγιναν στο Martin Place και κοντά στην καφετέρια Lindt, όπου έλαβε χώρα η αιματηρή πολιορκία του περασμένου Δεκεμβρίου. Η δυνατή βροχή δεν απέτρεψε 500 άτομα από την ομάδα R.Α. να βρεθούν στην πλατεία με την αστυνομία να προσπαθεί να χωρίσει τις δύο ομάδες.

Δικαστική απόφαση-σταθμός για τα συνδικάτα

Η ιστορία είναι απλή. Θα είχαν καλά αμειβόμενες δουλειές, αλλά δεν ήταν μέλη του συνδικάτου εργαζομένων.

Το 2009, ο Bruce και η Lynne Love, από το Περθ της Δυτικής Αυστραλίας, είχαν κάνει αίτηση να εργαστούν στο εξωτερικό στην εταιρεία «Offshore Marine Services» (OMS) με αποδοχές που θα έφταναν τις $220.000. Το ανδρόγυνο, όμως, δεν είχε ενταχθεί στο σωματείο των εργαζομένων στην Ναυσιπλοΐα (Maritime Union of Australia, MUA). Αν και αιτήθηκαν εργασίας δύο φορές, οι θέσεις δόθηκαν σε μέλη του σωματείου.

Το ζευγάρι, που είναι στην ηλικία των 50 περίπου ετών, κινήθηκε δικαστικά και την υπόθεση ανέλαβε το Ομοσπονδιακό Δικαστήριο. Με απόφασή του, την περασμένη Τρίτη, κήρυξε ένοχους για καταπάτηση του Νόμου περί Εργασιακών Σχέσεων την εταιρεία OMS και το συνδικάτο MUA και τους υποχρέωσε να καταβάλουν στο ζευγάρι συνολική αποζημίωση $723.300.

ΑΠΟΦΑΣΗ-«ΚΑΤΑΠΕΛΤΗΣ»

Τη δικαστική μάχη είχε αναλάβει η Διαμεσολαβήτρια Υπηρεσία Εργασίας (Fair Work Ombudsman) σε μία διαδικασία που ξεκίνησε τον Ιούνιο του 2011. Τον Μάιο του 2012, επιβλήθηκε πρόστιμο $7.500 από το Ομοσπονδιακό Δικαστήριο στην εταιρεία OMS, ενώ το MUA αρνήθηκε την ευθύνη και υπεραμύνθηκε των ισχυρισμών του.

Στην τελική του απόφαση, ο δικαστής John Gilmore, αναφέρει ότι το συνδικάτο παραβίασε το Νόμο περί Εργασιακών Σχέσεων και το καταδίκασε ότι διέπραξε εκφοβισμό προς την εταιρεία για να μην προσλάβει το ζευγάρι. Ο δικαστής διαπίστωσε, επίσης, ότι οι ενέργειες του MUA στέρησαν στο ζευγάρι μια επαγγελματική ευκαιρία και, μάλιστα, «σε μια κρίσιμη στιγμή της ζωής του». Η εταιρεία «υπέκυψε» στις απειλές των συνδικαλιστών, αν και επιθυμούσε να δώσει εργασία στο ζευγάρι.

Ο δικαστής προχώρησε και πιο πέρα: Στην απόφασή του τονίζει ότι «οι συμπεριφορές των συνδικαλιστών έχουν στόχο να δημιουργήσουν έναν κλειστό επαγγελματικό κύκλο στη ναυπηγοεπισκευαστική ζώνη της Δυτικής Αυστραλίας. Οι κυρώσεις πρέπει να είναι ικανές για να αποτρέψουν περαιτέρω παράνομη συμπεριφορά αυτού του τύπου από το MUA» αναφέρει ο δικαστής Gilmore.

ΠΟΛΙΤΙΚΕΣ ΔΙΑΣΤΑΣΕΙΣ

Ο ομοσπονδιακός υπουργός Απασχόλησης, Eric Abetz, δήλωσε ότι η δικαστική αυτή απόφαση αποτελεί ένα «μάθημα» για τους εργοδότες εκείνους, οι οποίοι «είτε οικειοθελώς είτε μέσω εκφοβισμού εμπλέκονται σε αυτόν τον τύπο παράνομης συμπεριφοράς από κοινού με ένα συνδικάτο».

Στη δήλωσή του, ο γερουσιαστής Abetz αναφέρει ότι «αυτή η συμπεριφορά είναι εντελώς απαράδεκτη και προέρχεται από τα αφεντικά των συνδικάτων που περήφανα καυχώνται ότι ‘οι νόμοι πρέπει να καταπατούνται’. Ήρθε η ώρα που ο Bill Shorten και το Εργατικό Κόμμα θα πρέπει να αποστασιοποιηθούν από τους μαχητικούς αυτούς εργατοπατέρες των συνδικάτων μπλεγμένων σε αυτή την παράνομη συμπεριφορά».

Το παράρτημα του MUA στη Δυτική Αυστραλία αναμένεται να ασκήσει έφεση κατά της απόφασης του Δικαστηρίου. «Θα συζητήσουμε τη θέση μας με τη νομική μας ομάδα» δήλωσε ο γραμματέας του παραρτήματος, Chris Cain.

Η Διαμεσολαβήτρια Εργασίας, Natalie James, συμφώνησε με την απόφαση του Δικαστηρίου και ότι στέλνει ένα ισχυρό μήνυμα: «Οι εργαζόμενοι έχουν το δικαίωμα να ενταχθούν σε μια ένωση εργαζομένων ή και να μην το πράξουν. Αυτό όμως δεν θα πρέπει σε καμία περίπτωση να έχει σχέση με τη δυνατότητα απασχόλησης του ατόμου από μία εταιρεία» σχολίασε.

ΤΙ ΠΡΟΒΛΕΠΕΙ Η ΝΟΜΟΘΕΣΙΑ

Η νομοθεσία προβλέπει ότι είναι παράνομο για έναν εργοδότη να αρνηθεί να απασχολήσει ένα άτομο, ανεξάρτητα αν αυτό είναι μέλος μιας ένωσης εργαζομένων.
