Μία ξεχωριστή πρόταση διαμονής

Αν μη τι άλλο αποτελεί μια ξεχωριστή πρόταση διαμονής… O George -που είναι Έλληνας- και η Jennifer από την Αυστραλία είναι ένα ζευγάρι που διαθέτει και νοικιάζει ένα μοναδικό δεντρόσπιτο που απέχει μόλις πέντε χιλιόμετρα από την πόλη της Αμαλιάδας. Μαζί με τις κόρες τους έχουν δημιουργήσει ένα ξεχωριστό και φιλόξενο περιβάλλον μέσα στην φύση. Σε μια καταπράσινη περιοχή (σ.σ. Τσιχλείκα Αμαλιάδας), βρίσκεται το βιολογικό αγρόκτημα “Kotsifas estate treehouse” και μέσω της σελίδας airbnb.gr το ζευγάρι διαθέτει το σπίτι στο δέντρο σε όσους θέλουν να ζήσουν εναλλακτικές διακοπές στη φύση.

Στο δεντρόσπιτο υπάρχουν είδη πρώτης ανάγκης, σαμπουάν, στεγνωτήριο, ασύρματο internet ενώ παρέχεται πρωινό και δωρεάν στάθμευση στις εγκαταστάσεις. Το σπίτι διαθέτει μπαλκόνι, ένα μπάνιο, ένα υπνοδωμάτιο και έναν καναπέ που γίνεται κρεβάτι ενώ επιτρέπονται τα κατοικίδια και έχει διάφορες παροχές όπως στεγνωτήριο, πάρκινγκ και είδη πρώτης ανάγκης.

Οι ιδιοκτήτες μαγειρεύουν για τους φιλοξενούμενους τους με βιολογικά προϊόντα, ενώ στην τιμή των 200 ευρώ τη μέρα περιλαμβάνεται ένα πλήρες γεύμα της επιλογής των φιλοξενούμενων μαζί με κρασί, δωρεάν μάθημα γιόγκα ή μασάζ και φυσικά ηρεμία…

Απίστευτο τοπίο, ηρεμία και γαλήνη για να χαλαρώσετε, να κάνετε πεζοπορία, ή να κολυμπήσετε στις κοντινές παραλίες.

Όπως γράφουν κάποιοι επισκέπτες της ιστοσελίδας airbnb.gr: «Αυτή είναι η πιο όμορφη κοιλάδα που έχω δει, περιβάλλεται από καταπράσινα δάση, ελαιώνες, χωράφια, και δεν υπάρχουν κατοικίες στην περιοχή. Αν σας αρέσει η φύση ηρεμία και η γαλήνη, οι υπέροχες παραλίες και το καλό φαγητό τότε θα απολαύσετε την εμπειρία σας εκεί».

Κάποιος άλλος γράφει: «Δεν μπορώ να πω αρκετά για την εμπειρία μας, μπορούμε να πούμε μόνο πως μακάρι να μπορούσαμε να έχουμε μείνει περισσότερο! Ο Γιώργος και η Jennifer είναι οι πιο υπέροχοι οικοδεσπότες και μας άρεσε πολύ η μεγάλη κουβέντα που είχαμε, το φαγητό και το κρασί. Απολαύσαμε το γεγονός ότι είχαμε τη δυνατότητα για την πλήρη προστασία της ιδιωτικής μας ζωής στο δεντρόσπιτο, αλλά και είχαμε την ευκαιρία να απολαύσουμε την καθημερινή ζωή με τον Γιώργο, την Jennifer και τις κόρες τους. Julien promises to give back to the Greek society

Among the thousands of students in Greece who were accepted on Wednesday was Julien,

Julien, a 20-year-old who migrated from Africa to Greece at the age of 16 in November 2011, was amongst the students who were accepted in higher educational institutions across the country scoring top grades.

The young African refugee, was accepted into the Electrical Engineering department of the Technological Educational Institute of Piraeus as the school’s highest test scoring entrant on.

Julien graduated from the 1st Professional High School of Konitsa located in Epirus. He has been living at the Konitsa Protection Center for Adolescent Refugees since October 2012.

Before his ‘adoption’ by the Protection Centre, Julien had been held in custody in Evros for three months as an illegal immigrant and then lived on the streets of Athens.

“I want to dedicate this success to my parents and siblings that are no longer alive,” he told the Athens-Macedonian News Agency.

“My parents were the ones who had pressed upon me the value and desire of education since a very young age.”

Julien, who was granted asylum this past August, also noted that his goal is to give back as much to his new home, Greece, as he possibly can.

“I want to feel safe and have international safety according to the Geneva convention. I want to move forward and be useful and important to the Greek society.”

Athens the most flirtatious city in the world according to Thrillist

Turns out a down economy doesn’t affect the confidence level of Greeks at all. Athens been named the world’s most flirtatious city on Thrillist, but Greece as a country was dubbed the most sexually aggressive nation. Unlike most countries on the list, Greece makes the top for a good reason: its citizens being the most sexually active.

Dr. Simon Hardy, author of the journal article, The Greeks, Eroticism and Ourselves told the Telegraph that “the Greeks may have perfected their flirting skills way back in the day during those ultra-sexual symposiums.”

“You know, when they were just talking about philosophy. Obviously, they enjoy using these skills.”

Dr Hardy said that Greeks flirt more than any other people and have more sex than any other people and they basically invented rhetoric, which is pretty handy when trying to turn a ‘no’ into a ‘yes’.

“If you are visiting Greece soon, be on guard, you may get yourself into a sexy situation before you can say, ‘Aristotle’,” he concluded.

Italy came second and Egypt took third place. Egyptians, however, have a long history of harassment towards female tourists. Brazil got fourth place and Colombia Colombia hits the middle. On the downside, its major city, Bogota, topped another not-so-lighthearted list: worst public transportation systems for women in a Reuters survey.

Meanwhile, Spanish females are the world’s most flirtatious online bringing their country on sixth place. India, where men take the idea of the ‘chase’ a little too far, is seventh on the list. France is eighth and Dominican Republic came ninth while Russia got tenth place.

Film critic Thom Ernst clearly remembers the first time he saw Stephen Spielberg’s trail-blazing blockbuster “Jaws.”

It was June 20, 1975. The Vietnam War was over, U.S. president Richard Nixon had resigned and the Captain & Tennille were cheerfully crooning “Love Will Keep Us Together.”

After years of tumultuous social politics, people were ready for a healthy dose of escapism.

“I was just on my way to Junior Forest Rangers up north and it was the last movie I saw before going out of town,” recalls the 57-year-old Waterloo Region native, who remembers lining up at an uptown Waterloo cinema for the première of the monster film that changed Hollywood.

“For some reason, it appealed to me more than any other movie. I saw it not once, but twice. I walked out of the theatre and got right back in line.

He laughs. “That makes me kind of a goof, I guess.”

“Discriminating filmgoer” is more like it, given that Spielberg’s shark attack thriller is now considered a masterpiece, a cinema landmark that catapulted the 28-year-old maverick into the top rank of directors and ushered in the era of summer blockbusters.

“How many blockbusters do you know where chunks of dialogue are essential to the film?” poses Ernst, who studied English and drama at the University of Waterloo.

” ‘Jaws’ was the first horror film with a real ‘human’ aspect to it.”

That, of course, would be its backstory about a small town police chief who — under intense political pressure — covers up the presence of a great white shark off the town’s tourist-friendly coastline, but lives to regret it when the implacable beast starts chomping down on locals.

The epic battle that ensues, which involves the taciturn chief (Roy Scheider), a know-it-all marine biologist (Richard Dreyfus) and a crusty shark hunter (Robert Shaw), was a modern day version of “Moby Dick.”

“It’s everything a blockbuster should be,” notes Ernst, former host of TVO’s “Saturday Night at the Movies” and current film reviewer on CTV News Channel. “It was a movie that suddenly became a phenomenon.”

Lunch boxes, T-shirts, tumblers, towels, costumes, games, posters, sleepwear, water pistols, and, of course, the novelty hit, “Mr. Jaws,” which peaked at No. 4 on Billboard.

Hell, it even had its own catchphrase: “You’re gonna need a bigger boat!”

But like any game-changing art form, its birth was not without challenges: the mechanical shark malfunctioned, cast members didn’t get along, the film went way over budget.

Good thing an ambitious young nobody named Spielberg was at the helm to turn what could have been a studio tax writeoff into something approaching high art.

“The audience was enthralled,” recalls Ernst, who will introduce a 40th anniversary screening on Thursday with anecdotes about the film’s troubled gestation.

“They cheered, they laughed, they screamed. It was an emotional roller-coaster. You get completely lost in the film. It’s something I rarely experience now.”

With a “shock and awe” marketing campaign and massive nationwide opening, “Jaws” became not only the highest grossing film of all time — until “Star Wars” two years later — it upended the antiquated notion that high-profile movies could only be released in winter, opened gradually over many weeks.

Good thing? Bad thing?

On one hand, it paved the way for the big budget popcorn movies that dominate today — everything from “Avatar” to “The Avengers” — and inspired current directors like J.J. Abrams and James Cameron.

On the other, it shut out, over time, the nervy, indie-minded button pushers who rejuvenated Hollywood cinema in the ’70s with provocative classics like “The Godfather,” “Chinatown,” “Taxi Driver,” “Clockwork Orange” and “The Conversation.”

Suddenly, bigger was better, high concept was king, and innovation was for elitist eggheads.

The true legacy of “Jaws” isn’t, arguably, arty Oscar winners like “Boyhood” and “Birdman.”

It’s “Sharknado” one through three.

” ‘Sharknado’ was a gas!” laughs Ernst, who figures that whether “Jaws” came along or not, the rate of bad movies to good would be exactly the same. “I couldn’t believe how much I enjoyed it.”

But nothing, he insists, compares to the prototype: “the tension, the buildup.”

“Jaws,” fuelled by John William’s haunting, Oscar-winning score, was one for the record books.

And when Ernst finds himself back in a Waterloo theatre on Thursday — possibly with the same audience who congregated 40 years ago — it’ll be the ride of his life all over again.

“I think it still works,” notes the longtime Toronto resident, who plans to attend the screening with a sister who lives in Wellesley.

“We’re maybe a little desensitized to the gore in the film — seeing a severed head with an eye popped out of its socket.

“But ‘Jaws’ proved that monsters don’t have to be unreal. They exist.”

Warragamba dam expected to start spilling over after high rainfall, affecting areas between Penrith and Windsor.

Western Sydney residents have been warned to prepare for minor flooding after heavy rain, with the Warragamba dam expected to spill over.

The dam was expected to spill between 7am and 8am on Thursday, with minor flooding expected from Penrith to Windsor.

“Conditions will be dangerous,” State Emergency Service spokesman Phil Campbell said.

The SES had 200 calls for help overnight and 300 people were ordered to evacuate their homes at Sussex Inlet and St George’s Basin. Some took shelter in an evacuation centre set up at a nearby bowls club, an SES spokesman said.

Flooding was also expected in Nowra, threatening to close roads and leave properties isolated. Campbell said residents would unlikely be able to return home, with high tide expected at 5pm.

The SES said it was disappointed people had removed some safety signs warning of road closures and potential flooding.

Shoalhaven mayor Joanna Gash said safety signs had been taken down, causing havoc to drivers who were getting stuck on flooded roads.

“People have removed the closed signs on the roads and people are going through and getting caught and they think it is funny,” Gash said on Wednesday. “They think they have a bigger truck so they can go through and then they get stuck.”

The SES said they were “very disappointed to hear this behaviour is going on”.

“We are sad to know that we have had to do 67 rescues in the past 48 hours for people who continue to drive through floodwater, not only risking their own lives but also the lives of our volunteers,” an SES spokeswoman said on Wednesday.

“People doing this are risking other peoples lives by making the decision to move those signs.”

NSW residents living downstream from Jerrara Dam, west of Kiama, were able to return home safely after being evacuated from the area because of heavy rainfall.

Residents living in the lower areas of Mt Brandon Road, Jerrara Road and Jamberoo Road were evacuated on Tuesday morning following concerns the dam’s wall showed signs of failing.

Engineers from Kiama Council, along with the NSW SES, assessed the dam and issued an “all clear” on Wednesday morning.

Οι χάκερ έκαναν την απειλή τους πραγματικότητα και αποκάλυψαν τα στοιχεία 32.000.000 χρηστών της μεγαλύτερης σελίδας γνωριμιών για παντρεμένους

Δημοσίευσαν ονόματα, διευθύνσεις, τηλεφωνικούς αριθμούς, e-mails, τα τελευταία ψηφία πιστωτικών καρτών και… τις φαντασιώσεις, υποστηρίζοντας ότι ανήκουν σε 32.000.000 χρήστες που αναζητούσαν ερωτικούς συντρόφους εκτός γάμου μέσω της ιστοσελίδας, μεταξύ των οποίων, ακόμη και τραπεζίτες, προσωπικό των Ηνωμένων Εθνών αλλά και του Βατικανού.

Ο φάκελος με τα στοιχεία που επισύναψαν οι χάκερ σε ανάρτηση με τίτλο «Ο χρόνος τελείωσε» στο σκοτεινό δίκτυο, όπου η πρόσβαση είναι εφικτή μόνο από κρυπτογραφημένους browsers, έχει μέγεθος 9,7 Gb και, όπως εξηγούν, προχώρησαν σε αυτήν την ενέργεια επειδή η εταιρία δεν «κατέβασε» την ιστοσελίδα, όπως είχαν απαιτήσει.

Η εταιρία, από την πλευρά της, σχολιάζοντας την τελευταία εξέλιξη έκανε λόγο για εγκληματική ενέργεια σε βάρος των χρηστών της.

Τα προσωπικά δεδομένα που… κλείνουν σπίτια, έχουν υποκλαπεί και η ισπανική ψηφιακή υπηρεσία Tecnilógica έφτιαξε τον παγκόσμιο χάρτη που δείχνει την κατανομή των χρηστών της ιστοσελίδας, άρα των… εραστών της απιστίας, ανά τον κόσμο. Για τον χάρτη αυτό χρησιμοποιήθηκαν ως στοιχεία, το φύλο των χρηστών, η ημερομηνία εγγραφής στην ιστοσελίδα και η πόλη στην οποία κατοικούν.

Τόσο η Ελλάδα όσο και η Αυστραλία, είναι στο χάρτη αυτό με υψηλά ποσοστά.

Στην Ελλάδα ένα ποσοστό των χρηστών της τάξης του 85% είναι άνδρες.

Οι χάκερ έδωσαν στη δημοσιότητα 32 εκατομμύρια διευθύνσεις email από όλο τον κόσμο, διευθύνσεις, στοιχεία για πιστωτικές κάρτες , ακόμα και σεξουαλικές αναφορές.

Η Μελβούρνη είναι έκτη στον κόσμο με 213.813 κατοίκους της να ψάχνουν για σύντροφο μέσα από την συγκεκριμένη ιστοσελίδα.

Άρχισαν ήδη να γίνονται γνωστά και ονόματα. Ανάμεσά τους πολιτικοί, αστυνομικοί και δάσκαλοι.

Ήδη μια γυναίκα που βρήκε το όνομα του συζύγου της στην ιστοσελίδα έκανε αίτηση διαζυγίου!

Ο Υπουργός Αλιείας της Πολιτείας Μπιλ Μπερν υπεραμύνθηκε του προγράμματος.

Περισσότεροι από 600 καρχαρίες έχουν πιαστεί και θανατωθεί τον τελευταίο χρόνο στην Πολιτεία του Κουίνσλαντ, στο πλαίσιο ενός προγράμματος προστασίας από τα θαλάσσια αρπακτικά.

Ο Υπουργός Αλιείας της Πολιτείας, Μπιλ Μπερν, υπεραμύνθηκε του προγράμματος, το οποίο έχει δικομματική υποστήριξη, και επισήμανε πως οι 621 καρχαρίες που αιχμαλωτίστηκαν μεταξύ Ιουλίου 2014 και Ιουνίου 2015, θανατώθηκαν προκειμένου να προστατευτούν οι κολυμβητές από επιθέσεις.

Ο κ. Μπερν υπογράμμισε ότι το πρόγραμμα δεν έχει σχεδιαστεί για τον έλεγχο του τοπικού πληθυσμού καρχαριών, αλλά αποκλειστικά για τη θανάτωση καρχαριών που βρίσκονται κοντά σε δημοφιλείς παραλίες. Το πρόγραμμα ξεκίνησε πριν από 53 χρόνια και έχει την υποστήριξη των τοπικών αρχών και επιχειρηματιών, αλλά και των τουριστών και σέρφερ της περιοχής.

Τα άλλα θαλάσσια πλάσματα που αιχμαλωτίζονται κατά λάθος λόγω του προγράμματος για τους καρχαρίες θα καταγράφονται και η λίστα τους θα αναρτάται στο Διαδίκτυο, σύμφωνα με τον υπουργό.

Περισσότερες από 20.000 φάλαινες περνούν από τα ανοιχτά των ακτών του Κουίνσλαντ κάθε χρόνο, με αποτέλεσμα κάποιες να αιχμαλωτίζονται στα δίχτυα για τους καρχαρίες. Ωστόσο, τα τελευταία 20 χρόνια, από τις 52 φάλαινες που έχουν πιαστεί, οι 48 έχουν ελευθερωθεί ζωντανές.

«Ως μέρος της δέσμευσής μας για μία ανοιχτή και συμβουλευτική κυβέρνηση, αυτές οι πληροφορίες θα είναι πλέον άμεσα διαθέσιμες στην ιστοσελίδα του υπουργείου», δήλωσε ο κ. Μπερν κατά τη διάρκεια διάσκεψης με αντικείμενο την εκτίμηση προϋπολογισμού.

Από τους 621 καρχαριών που πιάστηκαν, οι 251 ήταν καρχαρίες τίγρεις, οι 173 γλαυκοκαρχαρίες, οι 111 ταυροκαρχαρίες και οι 8 λευκοί καρχαρίες.

Η περιβόητη συμφωνία δεν θα επικυρωθεί, για την ώρα τουλάχιστον

Εκλογικό φρένο στη συμφωνία για τις βίζες

Αναβολή παίρνει (πάλι) η ευκαιρία να διαμείνουν, να εργαστούν και να μάθουν την κουλτούρα και τον πολιτισμό της Αυστραλίας 500 νέες και νέους Έλληνες κάθε χρόνο που θα έδινε το «Μνημόνιο Κατανόησης μεταξύ της Κυβέρνησης της Ελληνικής Δημοκρατίας και της Αυστραλιανής Κυβέρνησης για τη ρύθμιση θεμάτων σχετικών με θεωρήσεις εισόδου για την Κινητικότητα των Νέων (Work and Holiday Visa)».

Η περιβόητη συμφωνία δεν θα επικυρωθεί, για την ώρα, από τη Βουλή των Ελλήνων λόγω των επικείμενων εκλογών.

Αξίζει να σημειωθεί ότι η Αυστραλία έχει εδώ και 20 χρόνια ανάλογες συμφωνίες με δεκάδες άλλες χώρες και μόνο με την Ελλάδα κάθε φορά εμφανίζεται και ένα πρόβλημα με αποτέλεσμα να μην έχει συναφθεί συμφωνία έως τώρα.

Είναι κάτι σαν την ψήφο των αποδήμων. Οι περισσότερες χώρες δίνουν, πλέον, στους αποδήμους τους το δικαίωμα ψήφου με εξαίρεση την Ελλάδα, παρά τις υποσχέσεις.

Ο Γενικός Γραμματέας Αποδήμου Ελληνισμού, κ. Κόκκινος, προώθησε την ψήφιση του νομοσχεδίου έτσι όταν ερχόταν στην Αυστραλία (μάλλον τον Οκτώβριο) να είχε κάτι «να μας πει). Μάλλον θα πρέπει να περιμένει και εκείνος.

Ειδικότερα, τώρα, το Σχέδιο Νόμου για τις βίζες με δικαίωμα εργασίας κατατέθηκε την περασμένη εβδομάδα στη Βουλή και αποσκοπεί στην εξοικείωση τόσο των Ελλήνων όσο και των Αυστραλών νέων με τον πολιτισμό, τη γλώσσα και την κουλτούρα κάθε χώρας. Λόγω των εκλογών όμως δεν αναμένεται να ψηφιστεί τώρα.

Το Σ.Ν. αφορά νέους ηλικίας 18 έως 31 ετών, οι οποίοι ενδιαφέρονται να διαμείνουν στην Αυστραλία και προβλέπει την έκδοση 500 θεωρήσεων πολλαπλής εισόδου για την κινητικότητα των νέων (Work and Holiday Visas) ή αδειών προσωρινής διαμονής για χρονικό διάστημα των δώδεκα μηνών, οι οποίες θα παρέχονται από κάθε χώρα προς τους υπηκόους της έτερης κατ’ έτος. Προκειμένου να επιλεγούν, οι ενδιαφερόμενοι θα πρέπει, επίσης, να μεταβούν στη χώρα μόνοι, χωρίς τη συνοδεία από εξαρτώμενα τέκνα, και να διαθέτουν: πτυχίο τριτοβάθμιας εκπαίδευσης ή να έχουν συμπληρώσει επιτυχώς δύο έτη προπτυχιακών σπουδών, έγκυρο διαβατήριο και πόρους επαρκείς για τα προσωπικά έξοδά τους. Επιπλέον, προβλέπεται ότι οι κάτοχοι visa μπορούν να απασχοληθούν και να εκπαιδευθούν στην Αυστραλία ή την Ελλάδα, όχι όμως για χρονικό διάστημα μεγαλύτερο των έξι και τεσσάρων μηνών, αντιστοίχως.

The history of the Michelides family, one of the most remarkable stories of early Greek migration to Australia, is published this weekend and will be launched by Dr Ken Michael AM, former Governor of Western Australia.

The book The Tobacco Pioneers: Michelides celebrates the business skills, energy and determination of brothers Peter and Michael Michelides, not only in their pioneering of the tobacco and cigarette manufacturing industry in WA, but also their historic role in leading the development of the Greek community in Perth.

Richly illustrated with photographs and documents from family archives and other sources, the book charts the brothers’ arduous journey from Kastellorizo via Egypt to Western Australia over a hundred years, and the rise and fall of the extraordinary tobacco empire they created, which in its heyday was producing one million cigarettes a day.

The 450-page book, which details the struggles and triumphs of early Greek migration to Australia, will be launched at a public event at 2.00 pm on Sunday 23 August at Castellorizian House, 160 Anzac Road, Mt Hawthorn.

New SBS drama starring Alex Dimitriades

Twenty years after he played pupil Nick Poulos in the hit ’90s show Heartbreak High, Alex Dimitriades is going back to school as the lead character in The Principal.
