Ο Παναθηναϊκός ξαναγεύτηκε το πικρό ποτήρι του αποκλεισμού από την Κλαμπ Μπριζ, η οποία τον απέκλεισε από ευρωπαϊκή διοργάνωση για τέταρτη φορά σε διάστημα 35 ετών! Το Τριφύλλι μολονότι στάθηκε εξαιρετικά μέχρι το 50’, στη συνέχεια υπέστη μπλακ άουτ και δέχθηκε δύο γκολ σε διάστημα τεσσάρων λεπτών (53’-57’). Προδόθηκε από την πονεμένη άμυνά του, αλλά κυρίως από την επίθεση που δεν κατόρθωσε να σκοράρει. Πλέον οι Πράσινοι, θα τα παίξουν όλα για όλα στα πλέι οφ του Γιουρόπα Λιγκ για να εισέλθουν στους ομίλους, διότι σε διαφορετική περίπτωση θα υποστούν μια ανεπανόρθωτη (αγωνιστική και οικονομική) ζημία.
Μετά το 3-0 ο προπονητής του “τριφυλλιού”, ο Γιάννης Αναστασίου δεν μπορούσε να κρύψει την απογοήτευσή του για την τροπή που πήρε για τον Παναθηναϊκός η ρεβάνς με την Μπριζ στο Βέλγιο. “Δυστυχώς επιβεβαιώθηκε αυτό που είχαμε πει: ότι πρέπει να βάλουμε γκολ. Δεν τα καταφέραμε και αυτό το επίπεδο θα τιμωρηθείς. Μας τιμώρησε η Μπριζ και νομίζω ότι αν πρέπει να τα βάλουμε με κάποιους είναι με τους εαυτούς.
Είχαμε τις προϋποθέσεις και δεν τις αξιοποιήσαμε. Το θέλαμε και το πιστεύαμε. Ήταν μια κακιά στιγμή για όλους μας. Πρέπει να βελτιώσουμε τις λεπτομέρειες και τα λάθη. Δεν φανήκαμε καλοί μαθητές. Αδικήσαμε τους εαυτούς μας. Χρειαζόμαστε πλέον δύναμη και σθένος για να συνεχίσουμε. Έχουμε πολλά παιχνίδια, πρέπει να δουλέψουμε και να γίνουμε καλύτεροι και πιο σκληροί με τους εαυτούς μας.
Μας έλειψε η ωριμότητα, μας έλειψε η αυτοσυγκέντρωση και το καθαρό μυαλό. Δεν είχαμε ούτε τύχη.
Στο ποδόσφαιρο δεν μπορεί κάθε αλλαγή που θα κάνεις να σου βγει. Στο ποδόσφαιρο δεν μπορείς να μιλάς με το αν. Πρέπει να δεχθούμε την πραγματικότητα.
Θα είναι σημαντικό να μπούμε στους ομίλους. Πρώτα θα δούμε τον αντίπαλο, μαζί όμως πρέπει να δούμε τα λάθη μας και να τα διορθώσουμε. Μετά το 2-0 η αντίδραση δεν ήταν αυτή που έπρεπε”.
Στη συνέντευξη Τύπου που ακολούθησε του αγώνα ανέφερε:
“Το παιχνίδι πήγε όπως το σχεδιάσαμε με μία διαφορά. Με ρωτήσατε χτες αν θα παίξουμε για να βάλουμε γκολ. Αν φτάνουμε σε αυτό το επίπεδο, δημιουργούμε τόσες φάσεις και ο αντίπαλος μας, καμία και δεν σημειώνουμε γκολ, τότε είναι αναπόφευκτο ότι θα τιμωρηθείς.
Τώρα για εμάς είναι σημαντικό να βρούμε τη δύναμη και να συνεχίσουμε, γιατί σίγουρα υπάρχει πολύς δρόμος μπροστά μας, αλλά από την άλλη, σε αυτό το επίπεδο πρέπει να αποφεύγουμε τα λάθη και να μένουμε συγκεντρωμένοι. Και 90 και 100 λεπτά αν χρειαστεί. Αλλά, όπως αποδείχτηκε, χάσαμε την αυτοσυγκέντρωση μας και σε αυτό το επίπεδο δεν επιτρέπεται, γιατί θα τιμωρηθείς. Και τιμωρηθήκαμε για άλλη μία φορά”.
Ο Παναθηναϊκός έχει κάνει βήματα προόδου. Αλλά τι του λείπει για να πάει πιο μακριά; Μπορεί αυτή η ομάδα να συνέλθει και να διεκδικήσει την πρόκριση της στους ομίλους του Europa League;
“Αυτή είναι η δουλειά μας. Σίγουρα, είναι άσχημο γιατί αποκλειστήκαμε από μία ομάδα που δεν έδειξε καλύτερη από εμάς. Αλλά για να πάμε στο επόμενο επίπεδο, πρέπει να γίνουμε αποτελεσματικοί και να περιορίσουμε τα λάθη. Το οικονομικό παίζει ρόλο, αλλά, από την άλλη, διαμορφώθηκε από μία προηγούμενη κατάσταση και την επωμίστηκε η υπάρχουσα. Προσπαθούν να την ξεπεράσουν και η ομάδα να παραμείνει στο υψηλότερο δυνατό επίπεδο.
Νομίζω ότι προσπαθήσαμε να κάνουμε κάποιες επενδύσεις για να ανέβει η ομάδα επίπεδο. Όμως, για διάφορους λόγους δεν είχαμε τη βοήθεια που έπρεπε. Δεν είναι δικαιολογία αυτό, αλλά, χρειάζεται εμπειρία. Έχουμε νέα παιδιά, που κάνουν βήματα, αλλά θέλουν και άλλη προσπάθεια. Το ξέρουμε, δουλεύουμε και προσπαθούμε”.
Σε τι οφείλεται αυτό το νεκρό διάστημα;
“Τι να σας πω; Να πω ότι δεν μάθαμε; Χρειάζεται και τύχη. Έγινε ένα σουτ, κόντραρε η μπάλα στο τείχος και μπήκε στα δίχτυα. Είχαμε νεκρές στιγμές, η Μπριζ τις αξιοποίησε. Είχε και η Μπριζ νεκρές στιγμές, αλλά δεν τις αξιοποίησε. Θέλαμε ένα γκολ. Αλλά, στην τελική προσπάθεια δεν είχαμε αποτελεσματικότητα. Δεν το καταφέραμε, ενώ, είχαμε τις δυνατότητες”.
Πως είναι το κλίμα στα αποδυτήρια; Μιλήσατε στους παίκτες σας;
“Μίλησα στα παιδιά, υπάρχει απογοήτευση. Αλλά, το κυριότερο είναι ότι η ζωή συνεχίζεται. Σε αυτό το επίπεδο, το σημαντικό είναι όταν τρως τις σφαλιάρες, να βρεις τη δύναμη να σηκωθείς. Γιατί, σίγουρα θα δεχτούμε και άλλες. Όμως, όσο αντέχουμε, μαθαίνουμε από αυτές τις σφαλιάρες και βρίσκουμε τη δύναμη και στεκόμαστε στα πόδια μας, το μέλλον θα είναι καλύτερο για μας.
Πρέπει να ξεχάσουμε αυτό το παιχνίδι και να κάνουμε την αυτοκριτική μας. Όλοι. Γιατί, σίγουρα είναι εύκολο να λέμε ότι φταίνε άλλα πράγματα, αλλά, μέσα στο γήπεδο, φαίνεται ποιος το θέλει πιο πολύ. Στο δεύτερο φάνηκε ότι δεν το θέλαμε τόσο. Στο πρώτο παίξαμε αλλιώς, αλλά, στο δεύτερο, όχι”.
Α’ ημίχρονο
Στο ξεκίνημα του παιχνιδιού ο Γιάννης Αναστασίου επεφύλαξε μια μικρή έκπληξη τακτικά καθώς παρέταξε μεν τους Πράσινους με σύστημα 4-3-2-1 αλλά αντί του Μπεργκ έριξε στην κορυφή τον Καρέλη, χρησιμοποιώντας τον Σουηδό λίγο πιο πίσω, δίπλα στον Νίνη. Η τετράδα της άμυνας και η τριάδα των χαφ ήταν η αναμενόμενη: με Βέμερ δεξιά, Πράνιτς αριστερά, Ταυλαρίδη-Τριανταφυλλόπουλο στο κέντρο και Κουτρουμπή μπροστά από τους στόπερ, Λαγό στα αριστερά και Ζέκα στα δεξιά. Ο Κοτσόλης επιλέχθηκε και πάλι στο τέρμα.
Οι Πράσινοι σε ολόκληρη τη διάρκεια του α’ ημιχρόνου ήταν εξαιρετικοί τακτικά και δεν επέτρεψαν στην Μπριζ που έπαιζε με 4-4-2 και είχε την συντριπτική κατοχή της μπάλας, να απειλήσει παρά μόνο σε μία φάση: Στο 26’ ο Ντε Σουτέρ από καλή θέση πήρε την κεφαλιά στην πλάτη του ξεχασμένου Βέμερ αλλά έστειλε την μπάλα πάνω από τα δοκάρια του Κοτσόλη.
Αντιθέτως, οι Πράσινοι προσπάθησαν να χτυπήσουν τους Βέλγους με αντεπιθέσεις και σουτ έξω από την περιοχή. Και κατάφεραν να δημιουργήσουν πιο αξιόλογες φάσεις. Αρχικά απείλησαν στο 16’ με εξαιρετικό φαλτσαριστό σουτ του Νίνη έξω από την περιοχή που έδιωξε με δυσκολία ο Μπρουζές, ενώ είχαν ένα επιθετικό κρεσέντο στο φινάλε του ημιχρόνου. Στο 44’ ο Μπεργκ και ο Καρέλης δεν μπόρεσαν να σκοράρουν μέσα από την περιοχή, ενώ στο επόμενο λεπτό και πάλι ο Καρέλης κόπηκε την τελευταία στιγμή από τον Ντουάρτε. Αμέσως μετά ο Νίνης έπιασε δυνατό σουτ έξω από την περιοχή βάζοντας δύσκολα στον Μπρουζές που πάντως αντέδρασε σωστά.
Β’ ημίχρονο
Στο ξεκίνημα του β’ ημιχρόνου ο Γιάννης Αναστασίου δεν άλλαξε τίποτα καθώς ήταν απόλυτα ικανοποιημένος από τους ποδοσφαιριστές του. Αντιθέτως, ο Μισέλ Πρεντόμ, διαφοροποίησε την τακτική της ομάδας του αλλάζοντας το 4-4-2 σε 3-4-3 κάτι που εξελίχθηκε καθοριστικό για την μετέπειτα εξέλιξη του ματς. Οπως επίσης καθοριστική ήταν η σπουδαία χαμένη ευκαιρία που είχε το Τριφύλλι στο 50’ με τον Μπεργκ και τον Καρέλη που δεν μπόρεσαν να σπρώξουν την μπάλα στα δίχτυα του Μπρουζές.
Κι ύστερα έγινε το μπλακ άουτ. Στο 53’ ο Ντιρκς σέντραρε από δεξιά και ο επερχόμενος Κουλ νίκησε στον αέρα τον Ζέκα και με κεφαλιά άνοιξε το σκορ (1-0). Σαν να μην έφτανε αυτό, στο 57’ η Μπριζ εκμεταλλεύτηκε το φάουλ που κέρδισε έξω από την περιοχή. Ο Βάσκεθ εκτέλεσε, η μπάλα βρήκε τον ώμο του Βέμερ κι αντί να πάει στην αγκαλιά του Κοτσόλη, κατέληξε στην απέναντι γωνία και στα δίχτυα του γράφοντας το 2-0.
Στο 60’ πέρασε στο παιχνίδι ο Πέτριτς και ο Αναστασίου γύρισε το σύστημα σε 4-4-2, ενώ δύο λεπτά αργότερα (62’) ο Παναθηναϊκός δεν είχε την τύχη με το μέρος του καθώς η κεφαλιά του Καρέλη σημάδεψε το δοκάρι του Μπρουζές. Η Μπριζ έχασε σπουδαία ευκαιρία για να πετύχει το 3-0 με τον Ντε Σουτέρ στο 63’ αλλά ο Κοτσόλης απέκρουσε εντυπωσιακά.
Στο 73’ ο Αναστασίου έπαιξε το τελευταίο του χαρτί ρίχνοντας στη μάχη Λουντ και Κλωναρίδη αντί Νίνη και Καρέλη. Αντί όμως να καταφέρει να σκοράρει, έπεσε στο καναβάτσο με νοκ άουτ καθώς στο 82’ ο Ουλαρέ σκόραρε από το ύψος του πέναλτι γράφοντας το 3-0.
A disastrous second half in Belgium was enough to put an end to the Champions League aspirations of Panathinaikos on Wednesday, as the Greens went down 3-0 to host Club Bruges on the night and 4-2 on aggregate.
Having won the first leg 2-1 in Athens, Panathinaikos played a composed first half in Belgium and contained the hosts’ pressure on the Greek defense.
However, after three chances missed for a Greek goal at the start of the second half, Bruges opened the score on the 53rd minute, pretty much against the run of play through Dion Cools and the tide of the game turned in the hosts’ favor.
Panathinaikos lost its concentration and Bruges added a second less than five minutes later courtesy of Spanish midfielder Victor Vazquez. His freekick went in off the head of Panathinaikos rightback Jens Wemmer at the wall.
With growing confidence and the increasing control of the midfield once Giorgos Koutroumbis was substituted, the Belgians held on to the result that would favor them, seeing Nikos Karelis’s shot stop at the woodwork on the 62nd minute.
Eventually they even added insult to injury eight minutes from time as substitute Obbi Oulare completed the routing for Bruges.
Panathinaikos will now enter Friday’s draw for the Europa League playoffs in the hope it will be able to feature in the group stage of UEFA’s second-tier competition.

Melbourne’s two A-League clubs avoided potential major FFA Cup upsets by recording away wins last night, albeit in vastly contrasting fashions.
Melbourne Victory were rarely threatened as they cantered to a 6-0 victory over Sydney’s Balmain Tigers, however Melbourne City needed an injury-time winner from Aaron Mooy to scrape to a tense 2-1 comeback win over Edgeworth Eagles in Newcastle.
Part-timers Edgeworth threatened to record a massive upset when they took the lead through a Bren Hammel penalty midway through the first half, only for Mooy to quickly draw City level with a scintillating 30m free kick.
The sometime Socceroo then repeated the feat late on to get the ambitious City out of trouble via a 92-minute winner.
In Sydney, A-League champions Victory scored after only 11 minutes through Besart Berisha, who slotted the ball home after a sharp interchange of passes with Jesse Makarounas. It took until four minutes from halftime before the Victory claimed their second thanks to Connor Pain.
Victory nabbed two more soon after the break through Kosta Barbarouses and Daniel Georgievski, ending any hopes of an upset from the fourth-tier side, much to the disappointment of a lively 4849-strong Leichhardt Oval crowd.
Balmain, who hit the post in the first half with a Joel Cook header, were overrun in the latter stages and there were further goals for George Howard and Fahid Ben Khalfallah.
Sydney Olympic won through to the round of 16 for the second year in succession but needed an 83rd-minute winner to see off Canberra’s Gungahlin United.
Another major upset loomed as South Hobart took a 2-0 lead away to Sydney United but the former National Soccer League powerhouse revived in the final half-hour to level at 3-3 on the back of a Panny Nikas double.
The teams were unable to be separated throughout 30 minutes of extra time only for the Sydneysiders to prevail 3-1 in a penalty shootout.
Former Central Coast Mariners’ goalkeeper Justin Pasfield made two saves.
OLYMPIC striker Pat Brown was told on Friday night that if he wanted to keep his starting spot he needed to be a consistent performer as Hamilton build towards the Northern NSW National Premier League finals. The response on Sunday at Darling Street Oval was exactly what coach Michael Bolch was hoping for. The speedster, who has been used mostly off the bench this season, scored a hat-trick as Olympic thumped Weston 5-1 to stay within reach of Edgeworth in the premiership race and leave the fourth-placed Bears facing a crunch game against Broadmeadow this weekend in the penultimate round. Brown pounced on a failed clearance at the back in the sixth minute and put his left-foot shot past goalkeeper Tim Pratt. Matt Swan produced a well placed left-foot strike to make it 2-0 after 16 minutes before Kane Goodchild scored off a long ball that caught Weston napping at the back in the 23rd. Weston created chances late in the half, but Olympic went to the break 3-0 ahead. Brown again took advantage of a turnover in Bears territory, taking a ball from Jacob Bailey in behind the defence before finishing with his left foot in the 65th minute. His best moment, though, was still to come. In the 72nd minute, Brown made a long, overlapping run down the right flank on a Hamilton counter-attack before again finishing with his left boot. Garry McDermott got one back for Weston in the 74th minute, but the result was beyond doubt. Bolch was pleased with the effort of Brown, who has come into the starting side over the past three weeks after a reshuffle of Hamilton’s line-up. ‘‘When he’s on, he’s on, and he took his chances well today,’’ Bolch said. ‘‘We spoke to him on Friday night and said that if he wants to stay in the starting side he has to be consistent and do those little one per centers every week. ‘‘He’s taken that on board and done really well today.’’ Bolch said the performances of Brown and Ben Koina, who has also started in recent games, had helped Olympic recover from a four-game winless streak that ended last week with a 7-0 rout of the Jets Youth. ‘‘They’ve got that confidence back they didn’t have when we had those three or four bad games,’’ Bolch said. ‘‘The couple of changes that we’ve made, like Benny Koina and Pat Brown coming into the starting side, have really helped us in the front third. ‘‘Having said that, Matt and Andrew Swan are doing really well. We get that go forward out of right and left fullback with them and Ben gives a lot of energy in the middle of the park.’’ The Bears are now just three points clear of Broadmeadow, who have a better goal difference and travel to Weston on Sunday with the chance to take over in fourth. Weston coach Trevor Morris was disappointed with his side’s display at the back. ‘‘We pride ourselves on our defence, and it just wasn’t there,’’ Morris said. ‘‘The first 15 minutes and we’re 3-0 down. They are a good team, Hamilton, but those goals were absolute gifts. ‘‘Even though we were poor, we had chances to get back into the game, but their commitment and desire was better than ours.’’ Peter Haynes and Kale Bradbery scored braces as Broadmeadow defeated the Jets Youth 5-2 at Magic Park. The Blues play a catch-up match with the Jets Youth on Wednesday night. The 2015 AFL Multicultural Round celebrates the contribution of diverse communities to the game’s history
To fight the marginalisation of players coming from diverse backgrounds, the AFL dedicates Round 19 to the seven most dominant migrant communities in the country.
“Over 14 per cent of AFL players are multicultural, meaning they are born overseas or have at least one parent born overseas,” AFL associate Dr Nikos Nikolopoulos, who will be commentating Round 19 in Greek, says.
“Among the favourite multicultural stars in the AFL are Essendon’s David Zaharakis, Melbourne’s Jimmy Toumpas and Collingwood’s Patrick Karnezis.”
Nikolopoulos believes this initiative will help many first and second generation Greeks who are interested in the sport to enjoy the games in their native language.
“Through sport we have a chance to promote messages like participation, equality, help and fun, through inclusion”, Nikolopoulos adds.
“Via our national sport, we can build bridges with the Australian community at large, which the Greek community is a major part of.”
If you are eager to find out how the word ‘Sherrin’ translates in Greek, the Adelaide v Richmond game at the Adelaide Oval on Friday 7 August is the perfect opportunity.
Renowned community developer, psychologist George Halkias will also commentate on the game in Greek as AFL’s multicultural ambassador.
The 50m lines on the playing field will also be marked in Greek to reflect our community’s contribution to the sport, while the word ‘umpire’ will be translated into seven languages and printed on the back of shirts to be worn during the AFL’s multicultural round in round 19.
The first ever AFL Multicultural Festival celebrating ‘Many Cultures, One Game’ will be held at the MCG in Yarra Park at the Collingwood v Carlton game on 8 August from 11.30 am-5.30 pm.
Meanwhile, from 14 August-31 October 2015 the Immigration Museum will host a photographic exhibition showcasing multiculturalism in Australian Football.

The national Under-18 basketball team is the new European champion, after coming from behind to beat Turkey in Sunday’s final at Volos, central Greece, where the tournament took place.
With Vassilis Charalambopoulos, Giorgos Papagiannis and Dionysis Skoulidas as its biggest stars, the team of coach Ilias Papatheodorou made the most of home advantage and after downing France in the quarterfinals and Lithuania in the semis it defeated Turkey 64-61.
Turkey led for most of the game, by up to 14 points, but four minutes from the end Greece edged ahead 54-51 for the first time in the final.
The Greeks’ inexperience and enthusiasm saw them shoot one three-point shot after another, with only moderate success, although the Turks were also nervous in attack and could not translate possession into points.
This is another golden generation for Greek basketball, as the men’s team is eyeing a place on the podium in next month’s Eurobasket.
Hamilton Olympic continued their goal spree in Round 16 of the NPL when they crushed Weston Workers 5-1 at Darling St Oval.
On a warm but windy afternoon, Olympic opened their account within the first five minutes through Pat Brown who intercepted a poor clearance by the Weston goalie, Tim Pratt.
By the 15th minute of play the score was 2-0 care of a solo run by Matthew Swan across the face of the goal.
The contest was over by the 23rd minute when Kane Goodchild received a long ball from Mason Campbell, he rounded Tim Pratt and fired into an empty net to make it 3-0.
Olympic dominated the game for the rest of the half but did not score any more goals.
In the second half Olympic cruised along until Pat Brown received the ball from a flick-on and volleyed it past a hapless Tim Pratt for a 4-0 margin.
Pat Brown made it a hat trick when he collected the ball from a flick-on by Kane Goodchild, ran across the face of the Weston goal before unleashing a shot that ended in the back of the net.
No sooner had the celebrations subsided Weston, were able to reply through Gary McDermott, to put some respectability to the scoring.
After this result Olympic maintain 2nd spot on with only two games left.
Greek teams in Europe completed a remarkable three-out-of-three this week, as PAOK and Atromitos scored Europa League victories on Thursday, two days after Panathinaikos’s win over Club Bruges for the Champions League qualifiers.
PAOK played almost the entire game at home with Spartak Trnava with a man’s disadvantage, but still emerged victorious with a 1-0 score in the first leg of its third qualifying round tie with the Slovaks.
Miguel Vitor got his marching orders just two minutes into the game at Toumba, leaving PAOK with 10 men. However the Thessaloniki club was the better team and saw its dominance bear fruit eight minutes from time when Yiannis Mystakidis fed Lucas Perez and he sent the ball home in what was probably his last game with PAOK before he returns to Spain.
Atromitos has taken a leap toward the Europa League play-offs with its 3-1 win at AIK Solna in Sweden.
The Peristeri team was 2-0 up from the first quarter of the hour through goals by Stefano Napoleoni and Marcelinho.
AIK then earned two penalties and converted only the second via Henok Goitom on the 70th, as the first one by Englishman Kevin Pavey was saved by Atromitos keeper Andrei Gorbunov on the 49th.
Man of the match Marcelinho, who created the first goal and scored the second, earned 11 minutes from the end a penalty for Atromitos and a red card for Noah Sonko Sundberg. Javier Umbides converted the penalty and Atromitos returned home with a precious win.
The second legs of both ties will take place on August 6.
