NSW Premier Mike Baird will host an emergency meeting of state and territory leaders today to discuss their response to the federal government’s budget.
Among the main issues for discussion will be the seven dollar co-payment proposal and their broader response to the federal government’s 80 billion dollar cuts to schools and hospitals over the next 10 years.
The NSW government has flagged the idea of asking GPs to work from hospitals, that way allowing patients to dodge the federal government’s proposed scheme.
Federal opposition treasury spokesman Chris Bowen says the idea is ‘extraordinary’ and shows the anger of the community and state governments over the health care tax unveiled in Tuesday’s budget.
Protesters are also set to voice their anger over the federal budget, with rallies planned in Sydney, Perth and Adelaide.Other events are planned for Melbourne, Hobart and Brisbane.
