Our aim is to put in a good performance tomorrow and get off to a good start. All teams in the Champions League are strong. We know Olympiacos are a very decent side with a good record – this is the Champions League, after all. All teams, by default, are very strong. I have studied them well.

Olympiacos have some very good players like [Alejandro] Domínguez, [Esteban] Cambiasso. They also have a very strong defence. They have won their last six home games in the Champions League and that tells you a lot.

In my first year at Bayern we reached the semis and in the second we did the same and lost to Barça, even though I believe we played well. This is the third year – we will do our best.

Karim Benzema struck in the first half to go into the top ten all-time European Cup scorers and then after the break Cristiano Ronaldo converted two penalties before completing his hat-trick – the first man to reach 80 goals in this competition.

Wolfsburg 1-0 CSKA Moskva
Six years on from beating CSKA to open their only previous campaign in the group stage, Wolfsburg won again thanks to Julian Draxler on 40 minutes.

PSV Eindhoven 1-2 Manchester United
Memphis Depay put Manchester United ahead in the 41st minute on his return to PSV but Héctor Moreno equalised on the stroke of half-time and Luciano Narsingh clinched an impressive victory for the home side in the 57th minute.

Antoine Griezmann’s goals on 18 and 25 minutes were enough to ensure Atlético got their campaign off to a winning start.

Benfica 2-0 Astana
The first team from Kazakhstan to compete in the group stage, Astana made the longest journey ever in this competition only to fall to second-half strikes from Nicolás Gaitán and Kostas Mitroglou.

Manchester City 1-2 Juventus
Just like United, City led when Vincent Kompany forced Giorgio Chielleini to head into his own net in the 57th minute. But Paul Pogba set up Mario Mandžukić to level and with nine minutes to go Álvaro Morata produced a brilliant finish to decide matters.

Sevilla 3-0 Monchengladbach
The first club to enter this competition via the UEFA Europa League overcame the group debutants with three second-half goals. Kevin Gameiro scored one penalty, missed another and won a third for Éver Banega to convert. Yevhen Konoplyanka’s late cross snuck inside the post to ice the cake.

PSV Eindhoven upset the odds by coming from behind to beat Manchester United 2-1 in an entertaining UEFA Champions League Group B encounter in Eindhoven.

The visitors suffered an early blow when Luke Shaw was stretchered off after Héctor Moreno blocked his surge into the box. But they quickly regained their rhythm and almost inevitably it was Memphis Depay who opened the scoring, latching onto Daley Blind’s assist and bamboozling two defenders with a sublime touch before rifling the ball past Jeroen Zoet.

Depay and Chris Smalling also came close as the Red Devils looked to consolidate their advantage. But the next goal surprisingly fell at the other end when Moreno headed home Maxime Lestienne’s corner despite Blind’s best efforts.

Depay and Anthony Martial linked early in the second half but Zoet saved his former team-mate’s low drive. Yet as Louis van Gaal’s men threatened to take control it was the Eredivisie champions who once again struck. Andrés Guardado released Lestienne on the left and his magnificent cross was nodded in emphatically by Luciano Narsingh.

United upped the tempo and brought on Marouane Fellaini to add punch to their attack. But Phillip Cocu’s men defended well and ran out relatively comfortable winners. Van Gaal will certainly not have enjoyed his return to the Netherlands.

Man of the match: Héctor Moreno
Moreno was a rock at the back for PSV, stifling the danger from Anthony Martial and also using the ball intelligently whenever winning possession. His prowess in the air was what brought his side back into the game when it seemed to be slipping from their grasp. Signing the former AZ Alkmaar defender from Espanyol was a smart piece of summer business by Cocu.

How badly do PSV miss Depay?
The match was finely in the balance until the former PSV forward produced a moment of brilliance to break the deadlock. That kind of skill invariably makes the difference at this level. In saying that, his successor Lestienne was always menacing and his direct running caused Matteo Darmian problems all evening. A new Eindhoven star is born?

The Rooney factor
Much was expected of Martial after his sizzling substitute appearance against Liverpool on Saturday, but he didn’t manage to stamp his presence on this fixture. United missed the injured Wayne Rooney’s guile and clinical finishing – and ultimately failed to win a contest they controlled for long spells.

Katsouranis, 36, wore his country’s armband at the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil and was part of the famous side that won Euro 2004 in Portugal.

An ecstatic Heidelberg head coach George Katsakis told foxsports.com.au that his players and everyone involved in the club are deliriously excited to have a Greek colossus, who has played 116 times for his country, join them on a short deal that should see him in the country for approximately two weeks.

“Everyone around the club is going crazy,” he said. “No one can believe it eventuated.”

“I’m obviously excited to have a player of that calibre represent our team and, more importantly for me, to play under my direction – it’s unbelievable, I’m very excited.”

He has been a part of the Greece national team for over a decade and has also made one appearance in their current Euro 2016 campaign. With veteran skipper Giorgos Karagounis on the bench in Brazil, Katsouranis took the armband, although he saw red in their group clash with Japan. In 2010, he was part of the first Greek XI to win a FIFA World Cup match, when they defeated Nigeria 2-1 in South Africa.

Heidelberg host Melbourne City in the FFA Cup quarter-final, Tuesday 29 September, 8pm EST, live and exclusive on Fox Sports.

He’s currently without a club, having finished a six-month stint at Atromitos in the Greek Super League at the end of last season; his club career has previously taken him to Panachaiki, AEK Athens, Benfica, Panathinaikos (ironically, Melbourne City recruit Bruno Fornaroli replaced him there in 2013), PAOK, and Indian Super League club Pune City.

Heidelberg, who have moved into the final eight via wins over Sydney United and Broadmeadow Magic, were founded by Greek immigrants in 1958 and that communal element had a big role in luring a player of such immense pedigree to the club.

“Being a highly Greek population set the scene for it,” Katsakis revealed.

“Knowing the community was right behind it, we thought of someone of that magnitude. It was very important for us to get it over the line.

“When you start to put things into perspective, he played for Benfica, all over the world, to come to the Olympic Village for Heidelberg – it’s amazing.”

He added: “We’ve been talking to him over the last couple of weeks; he’s just as excited (as we are).

“He wants to come down and make a mark in Australian football as a guest player.

“Being a servant of the Greek community, he’s excited to see the patriotism that we have in Australia. He wants to experience it. I’m hoping he’ll relate to the occasion and rise to it.”

Katsakis revealed that luring a big name was something they’d been plotting once Daniel Heffernan was picked up by Central Coast Mariners.

“We put it in the pipeline as soon as that eventuated. We thought me might be due an exemption to chase someone of pedigree.

“We’ve got some people here, one person in particular involved in international football, he’s got some contacts and got it over the line for us.”

The signing is another major fillip for the FFA Cup – not just because a team from below the top tier is now able to make such a signing, but that the player himself is using it as another opportunity to put himself in the shop window.

“From what I believe he’s been negotiating with a couple of clubs, nothing has eventuated,” Katsakis said. “So this might expose him and on the way back, who knows what opportunities might open for him.”

It’s cliché to throw the term magic of the cup out and about, but, Katsakis says his players are now walking that little bit taller ahead of a clash with A-League outfit City in a bid to reach the final four and cause a boilover.

“I think the confidence of the players at the moment is very high, by announcing what we have today, the boys will be astonished with what’s happened,” he said.

“It’s something you can’t believe and it doesn’t happen on a regular basis.

“They’ll rise to the occasion as well, and this will lift their confidence enormously. It’s definitely a difficult task to play against full time professionals, but it gives us that extra bit to make us competitive.”

He added: “Not only does (the FFA Cup) give us the opportunity to breed our own and get grassroots football to rise to the top; it gives the opportunity to the league to do things like this and put it on the map.

“Australian football is experiencing some difficulties for all the wrong reasons at the moment; something like this gives the game a different direction.”

Fake £50 notes lay strewn around the visitors’ dugout long after José Mourinho had exited and the PA system at Goodison Park had played ‘Money Can’t Buy Me Love’ one last time.

Everton revelled in their riposte to Chelsea’s thwarted pursuit of John Stones but it was the absence of fight, effort and confidence in the champions’ ranks that will have troubled Mourinho most of all.

The magisterial Stones was the last outfield player to leave the pitch after a clinical 3-1 victory delivered by a perfect Steven Naismith hat-trick – header, left foot, right foot – and exemplary teamwork for every Everton goal. Having performed a Cruyff turn inside his six-yard box to outwit Pedro at one point, Stones made a symbolic U-turn in Evertonian eyes on the final whistle when he applauded all four sides of the stadium and reserved a thumbs-up for the heartland on the Gwladys Street. Goodison roared forgiveness of the 21-year-old who submitted a transfer request at the height of Chelsea’s interest.

John Terry also summed up his team’s afternoon in one gesture. It came seconds after Naismith doubled Everton’s advantage from a move that met no resistance as it crossed Chelsea’s midfield. The former England captain picked up the ball and threw it at the feet of Diego Costa. “You do something,” was the insinuation. Costa never did.

Chelsea’s front line of Costa, Pedro, Eden Hazard and Cesc Fàbregas offered nothing. Chasing Everton’s defenders after losing possession appeared beyond them. The visitors’ goal, a magnificent long-range strike from the defensive midfielder Nemanja Matic, was a rare moment of discomfort for Tim Howard. Chelsea’s leaking defence has attracted understandable criticism this season but the lack of protection and effort in front of them was remarkable for a team that swept to the title last season.

“I will say one thing and this is true,” said Branislav Ivanovic. “We were one of the best defensive lines in the last couple of years but this is a team. Not just the back four. Also the players in front. As a team, we played very well and, because of that, we got the results. We have to get back to this form quickly. We have to defend as a team and try to win the games on our defence.”

Chelsea dominated possession in the second half yet Everton, with Naismith clinical, Ross Barkley energised and unsung players such as Arouna Koné, young Brendan Galloway and Gareth Barry excelling, posed the greater threat.

Something is wrong inside the Chelsea changing room – a place Mourinho did not linger in long after the game. He was on his phone in a corridor outside within minutes of the final whistle sounding on Chelsea’s third defeat in five league games and worst start to a season since 1988.

“No one was kicking off in there, nothing,” said the stand-in goalkeeper, Asmir Begovic. “We have to pick ourselves up. There are lots of games to go. The guys know we can go on a big run. Once things start clicking for us psychologically, mentally and physically, we can be a very powerful team and everyone knows that.” Asked if the atmosphere around the team was flat, Begovic replied: “That is probably a fair judgment.”

Costa embodied the contrasting attitude between Chelsea’s 6-3 win in the corresponding fixture last season and Saturday’s convincing defeat. The £32m forward scored seven goals in his first four league games in English football and currently has one in five. He is snarling more than scoring and his aggression is channelled solely towards defenders who are wise to his antics, not towards his movement or intent on the ball. Naismith overshadowed him on all counts.

The Scotland international was introduced from the bench after Muhamed Besic’s first league start of the season was ended by an early hamstring injury. He departed with the match ball thanks to a bullet header from Galloway’s perfect cross, a left-foot shot at the end of a flowing Everton move and a right-foot finish from Barkley’s inviting pass. It was the first hat-trick by an Everton player against Chelsea since the legendary William Ralph ‘Dixie’ Dean scored five in November 1931.

And to think Naismith considered joining Norwich City on deadline day. Stones was not the only player whom Everton refused to sell this summer.

“When it came about it was something I thought I had to consider,” admitted Naismith. “When you are not playing every week it is hard to look past these opportunities. At my age and having had a few years out with injury you do wonder how long it is going to be before you are playing regularly again.

“I am still coming on in games with a good bit of time to play, though, and so that gave me hope that I could still be here at Everton and, when the manager said it wasn’t going to happen, the decision was taken out of my hands. I knew then I just had to work hard and be ready for a day like this. The manager said he saw me as a valuable part of the squad and wanted to keep me. He reiterated after the game that it is a squad game and everyone has a role to play. This is proof of that.”

The first half of Manchester United’s game with Liverpool was extremely uninspiring.

Passing was slow and attacking movement nonexistent, to the extent you questioned whether either team was actually attempting to win the game. A lack of tactical cohesion was also obvious.

Louis van Gaal and Brendan Rodgers both speak about the importance of possession football, which does not entirely tally with the use of Marouane Fellaini and Christian Benteke as lone centre-forwards. Fellaini is a natural midfielder, of course, and Benteke more than simply a target man, but there’s always a temptation to hit longer passes towards players in this mould and, while this wasn’t a route one fest, neither forward contributed much to buildup play.

Besides, it is not as if this game featured any specialist crossers to supply the big Belgians, which meant both teams played in front of one another, neither attempting to penetrate the opposition defence, nor go around them. Bastian Schweinsteiger and Michael Carrick gave Manchester United control of possession but genuine chances were few and far between.

This game badly needed half-time changes and it was slightly surprising that Van Gaal elected to alter his left flank, arguably United’s best section of the side in the opening 45 minutes. That said, the positivity down that flank was primarily due to Luke Shaw, who continually pushed forward into the opposition half and meant Liverpool’s Roberto Firmino, Rodgers’s best chance of any counterattacking pace, was pinned back. Firmino was the game’s most prolific tackler, summarising his afternoon’s work.

Memphis Depay had been quieter, and therefore Van Gaal gave an opportunity to Ashley Young. A wide player who works excellently with an attack-minded full-back because of his tendency to move inside, both with and without the ball, he helped United make inroads down the left. He showed more intelligence than Depay in his movement towards play to collect possession and his directness was refreshing. He won the free-kick from Nathaniel Clyne, which resulted in Daley Blind’s fine opener, and while it was hardly a world‑class second-half performance from Young, it didn’t take much to be the game‑changer in a match boasting such little attacking quality.

It’s difficult to be overly positive about either side’s performance, however. United continue to look strong defensively, only beaten by an outstanding Benteke bicycle kick, and the quality of their central midfielders means they can take the game to the opposition. They are still searching, however, for reliable combinations in the final third, and whether it has been Fellaini or Wayne Rooney up front, it’s not entirely clear how United are attempting to supply their centre-forward. Anthony Martial’s impressive debut goal was a rare instance of United’s attacker creating chances for himself.

For Liverpool, the problems start in much deeper positions. The distribution from the goalkeeper and defence was sloppy all afternoon, and while Lucas Leiva, James Milner and Emre Can offer tactical discipline and mobility, this isn’t a midfield trio capable of commanding possession against decent opposition.

Indeed, Liverpool are averaging less than 50% of possession this season, but lead the Premier League statistics for aerial battles won, thanks to Benteke. It feels like Rodgers’s philosophy has become confused and, without the star attackers of previous campaigns, Liverpool can depend on neither good teamwork nor individual magic.

Ο πρώην παίκτης της Μίλαν μπήκε ως αλλαγή στο 56ο λεπτό και σχεδόν αμέσως (64΄,73΄) πέτυχε αμφότερα τα γκολ των «Λατσιάλι» στο 2-0 επί της Ουντινέζε στο «Ολύμπικο». Βασικοί με τους φιλοξενούμενους ήταν ο Ορέστης Καρνέζης και ο Παναγιώτης Κονέ (αντικαταστάθηκε στο 78΄ από τον Αγκίρε).

Στο μεταξύ, ο προγραμματισμένος για σήμερα, Κυριακή, (16:00) αγώνας της Σαμπντόρια με την Μπολόνια, αναβλήθηκε, καθώς υπήρξε πρόβλεψη για ισχυρή νεροποντή. Ο αγώνας θα πραγματοποιηθεί τη Δευτέρα.

Ένα τραγικό λάθος του Στιλ στοίχησε στον Παναθηναϊκό την ήττα από τον Πανιώνιο στη Νέα Σμύρνη, όπου οι Πράσινοι ηττήθηκαν με γκολ του Μπακασέτα (Πανιώνιος – Παναθηναϊκός 1-0) στο πλαίσιο της 3ης αγωνιστικής της Σούπερ Λιγκ.

Η ΑΕΚ αν και βρέθηκε να χάνει 0-1 από τον ΠΑΣ Γιάννενα, κατάφερε να ανατρέψει την εις βάρος της κατάσταση (ΑΕΚ – ΠΑΣ 3-1) χάρη στον «κεφάτο» Μπουονανότε.

Η Ξάνθη κατάφερε να… αποδράσει με το «διπλό» από το Περιστέρι (Ατρόμητος – Ξάνθη 0-1), αφού ο Σολτάνι δεν αστόχησε όπως οι επιθετικοί του Ατρομήτου.

Στο Αγρίνιο το ματς ήταν παράσταση για ένα ρόλο με δίκαιη νίκη του Παναιτωλικού (Παναιτωλικός – Πανθρακικό 1-0).

Το πρόγραμμα ολοκληρώνεται τη Δευτέρα με το ματς Ηρακλής – Λεβαδειακός (19:30).

Ο Πανιώνιος νίκησε τον πολύ κακό ΠΑΟ, μοιραίος ο Στιλ

Με εμφάνιση… αλά Καμπάλα, ίσως και χειρότερη, ο Παναθηναϊκός ηττήθηκε στη Νέα Σμύρνη από τον Πανιώνιο με 1-0, στο προτελευταίο ματς της 3ης αγωνιστικής της Super League. Το γκολ που έκρινε την αναμέτρηση πέτυχε ο Μπακασέτας στο 34΄ με απευθείας φάουλ, με τον Στιλ να κάνει τραγικό λάθος στον υπολογισμό της πορείας της μπάλας.

«Άξιος της τύχης του» ήταν ο Παναθηναϊκός στη Νέα Σμύρνη, όπου γνώρισε την πρώτη εφετινή του ήττα, προβληματίζοντας ακόμη περισσότερο τον κόσμο του. Ομάδα χωρίς… νεύρο και ενέργεια, που νόμιζε ότι με ποδόσφαιρο… τσούκου-τσούκου θα σκοράρει απέναντι στο αμυντικό τείχος του Πανιωνίου, με παίκτες που δεν έκαναν κίνηση προς τη μπάλα, που ενώ έβλεπαν ότι δεν μπορούσαν από τα άκρα να μπουν στην περιοχή δεν δοκίμασαν καν να παίξουν από τον άξονα και που δεν είχαν καθαρό μυαλό.

Από την άλλη, ο Πανιώνιος χωρίς να παίξει ποδόσφαιρο υψηλών προδιαγραφών έκανε το αυτονόητο. Με 11 παίκτες κάτω από τη μεσαία γραμμή στις επιθέσεις του Παναθηναϊκού και με προφανή σκοπό να «χτυπήσει» στην αντεπίθεση η ομάδα του Μαρίνου Ουζουνίδη κατάφερε να μπει προηγούμενη στα αποδυτήρια από το τραγικό λάθος του Στιλ στο φάουλ του Μπακασέτα.

Ένα σουτ του Καρέλη στο 12΄ ήταν ό,τι είχε να επιδείξει η ομάδα του Γιάννη Αναστασίου στα πρώτα 45 λεπτά, ενώ ο Πανιώνιος στο πρώτο που επιχείρησε προς την εστία του Στιλ προηγήθηκε. Ο Μπακασέτας στο 34΄ εκτέλεσε από μακριά, η μπάλα αφού αναπήδησε στο έδαφος φάνηκε να ελέγχεται από τον Στιλ, όμως, ο Βρετανός τη μάζεψε από τα δίχτυα του (1-0) σε μία άτυχη στιγμή γι΄ αυτόν.

Το γκολ «πάγωσε» τους «πράσινους» που τα… έχασαν εντελώς και δεν ήξεραν που πατούσαν. Ήταν τέτοιος ο εκνευρισμός τους, που με το σφύριγμα της λήξης του πρώτου μέρους, ο Ζέκα διαμαρτυρήθηκε έντονα προς τον Παππά (προφανώς για το φάουλ που έδωσε στη φάση του γκολ) και προς στιγμή πήγε να δημιουργηθεί επεισόδιο ανάμεσα στον Πορτογάλο και σε παράγοντα που Πανιωνίου.

Το ματς είχε σαφώς πιο γρήγορο ρυθμό στο δεύτερο μέρος, μιας και ο Παναθηναϊκός μπήκε αποφασισμένος να ισοφαρίσει γρήγορα και στο 58΄ έφτασε κοντά στο στόχο του με το βολέ του Καλτσά έξω από την περιοχή να περνάει λίγο άουτ.

Η ομάδα του Αναστασίου, όμως, μέχρι το 70΄ είχε ακριβώς το ίδιο αγωνιστικό… στιλ, παρά την είσοδο των Καλτσά και Μαρινάκη αντί των Πέτριτς και Λαγού. Όπως και στο πρώτο μέρος το προβλέψιμο παιχνίδι των «πρασίνων» ήταν «βούτυρο στο ψωμί» για τους «κυανέρυθρους», που δεν κινδύνευσαν καθόλου, έκαναν τις καθυστερήσεις τους κι εκμεταλλευόμενοι τη νευρικότητα των «πρασίνων» και τις διαμαρτυρίες τους προς τον Παππά, έφτασαν στη μεγάλη νίκη.

Και μέσα σ΄ όλα αυτά, ο Παναθηναϊκός ήταν και άτυχος στα τελευταία 15 λεπτά. Από το φοβερό σουτ του Ζέκα στο 75΄ η μπάλα τράνταξε το οριζόντιο δοκάρι του Παπαδόπουλου, στη μεγαλύτερη ευκαιρία των «πρασίνων» στο ματς. Στο 89΄ ο Παπαδόπουλος έκανε απίστευτη απόκρουση στο σουτ του Καλτσά μέσα από την περιοχή, ενώ στις καθυστερήσεις η εξ επαφής κεφαλιά του Μπεργκ έφυγε άουτ.

Ανατροπή με πρωταγωνιστή τον Μπουανανότε η ΑΕΚ

Με μεγάλο πρωταγωνιστή τον Ντιέγκο Μπουονανότε, η ΑΕΚ νίκησε 3-1 τον ΠΑΣ Γιάννινα στο ΟΑΚΑ για την 3η αγωνιστική της Super League.

Ο «Αγιαξ» προηγήθηκε στο 19΄ με τον Ακόστα, όμως ο Αργεντινός σκόραρε δύο φορές (35΄-πέναλτι, 44΄) στην ανατροπή των «κιτρινόμαυρων», ενώ ο Βάργκας διαμόρφωσε το τελικό σκορ στο 87΄. Με εννέα παίκτες ολοκλήρωσε τον αγώνα ο ΠΑΣ, καθώς αποβλήθηκαν με δεύτερη κίτρινη κάρτα ο Μιχαήλ στο 74΄ και ο Τζημόπουλος στο 80΄.

Στο ποδόσφαιρο ό,τι πληρώσεις, παίρνεις. Κι όταν η ΑΕΚ αποφάσισε να δώσει το πιο ακριβό της συμβόλαιο στον Μπουονανότε, ήλπιζε ότι θα ισχύσει ο συγκεκριμένος άγραφος νόμος. Σήμερα, ο Αργεντινός ήταν βγαλμένος από τα πιο άγρια όνειρα των οπαδών της Ενωσης.

Ηταν αυτός που πήρε την ομάδα από το χέρι και την οδήγησε στην ανατροπή, τη στιγμή που οι συμπαίκτες του βρίσκονται σε κατάσταση «σοκ» από το γκολ με το οποίο ο Ακόστα έδωσε προβάδισμα στον ΠΑΣ Γιάννινα στο 19΄.

Στο 34΄ ισοφάρισε με πέναλτι που κέρδισε ο ίδιος, όταν «χόρεψε» ανάμεσα σε Τζημόπουλο και Μπέριο, και ανατράπηκε από τον τελευταίο. Δέκα λεπτά αργότερα, σε κλασική “λάτιν” κίνηση, άδειασε τον Τζημόπουλο με εξαιρετική αλλαγή κατεύθυνσης και πλάσαρε στην αντίθετη γωνία των Βελίδη, γράφοντας το 2-1.

Αυτό ήταν! Οι οπαδοί της Ενωσης απέκτησαν μετά από χρόνια το δικό τους “παιδί”. Το όνομά του έγινε σύνθημα, το standing ovation τη στιγμή της αλλαγής του ήταν καθολικό και πλέον ο Μπουονανότε βρήκε στα 27 του αυτό που αναζητούσε για να βάλει ξανά την καριέρα του στο σωστό μονοπάτι.

Ο Αργεντινός είχε 2,5 χρόνια να σκοράρει δύο φορές (8/1/2013, Μάλαγα-Εϊμπάρ 4-1) και η χαρά του φάνηκε από τη… γεμάτη αγκαλιά που έδωσε στον Βάργκας όταν αντικαταστάθηκε.

Ο ΠΑΣ, δουλεμένη ομάδα με ταλέντο και ενέργεια, «στρίμωξε» την ΑΕΚ λίγο μετά το 60΄ και περίπου για ένα δεκάλεπτο. Ομως, ένα αχρείαστο φάουλ του Αλέξη Μιχαήλ στον Βάργκας, προκάλεσε την αποβολή (δεύτερη κίτρινη) του αρχηγού στο 74΄ και των τέλος των προσδοκιών που είχαν δημιουργηθεί για ισοφάριση.

Λίγα λεπτά αργότερα, το παρατεταμένο χειροκρότημα των περίπου 25.000 φίλων της ΑΕΚ ήταν αφιερωμένο στον Πέτρο Μάνταλο, που επανεμφανίστηκε έξι μήνες μετά τον σοβαρό τραυματισμό του.

Στην πρώτη του επαφή με τη μπάλα, στο 80΄ ο Τζημόπουλος τού έκανε σκληρό τάκλινγκ και αντίκρισε την κόκκινη κάρτα, αφήνοντας την ομάδα του με εννέα παίκτες. Οι φιλοξενούμενοι πέταξαν λευκή πετσέτα και μετά από αρκετές χαμένες ευκαιρίες, ο Ρόναλντ Βάργκας διαμόρφωσε το τελικό 3-1 στο 87΄.
