Last year’s Champions League winners, FC Barcelona, host Bayer 04 Leverkusen in their first home game in the tournament. The Catalans are definitely the favourites against Leverkusen, even after Lionel Messi’s injury in the last La Liga game against Las Palmas was quite a shock for the team and the club.

A good start

The start into the 2015-16 La Liga campaign was quite good for Luis Enrique’s men. After losing the Spanish Super Cup to Athletic Bilbao after a 0-4 away defeat and a 1-1 home draw, Barça beat the Basques 1-0 in their first league game.

The team kept up the good pace as they won 1-0 against Málaga and 2-1 against Atlético Madrid, before drawing 1-1 against Roma in the first Champions League game of the new season.

The next league game was good, winning 4-1 against Levante. But after that – the team suffered a setback – they lost they an away game against underdogs Celta Vigo four-one.

Messi injured

In the last league game against UD Las Palmas, the team won 2-1 but lost superstar Lionel Messi, who tore a ligament in his left knee in just the fourth minute of the game after a block tackle. He will be out for at least six weeks, with others are saying that Barcelona could be without him for more than two months.

A mixed start

Bayer Leverkusen had a mixed start to the new Bundesliga season. The Werkself won their first game against TSG 1899 Hoffenheim two goals by one and won the next game against Hannover 96 1-0.

The play-off win over Lazio (0-1, 3-0) could not help the team in the next games as they lost to Bayern München (0-3) and promoted team SV Darmstadt (0-1).

After winning 4-1 in the first Champions League game against Belarusian side BATE Borisov, Roger Schmidt’s men failed to continue playing well as they lost 0-3 to Borussia Dortmund. The last two games were better as Leverkusen won against 1. FSV Mainz (1-0) and Werder Bremen (3-0).

Bad memories

The last time the two teams faced each other, Bayer Leverkusen experienced had a nightmare. In the 2011/12 Champions League campaign, the Werkself had to play against the Blaugrana: the home game for Leverkusen went relatively well even though they lost 1-3.

The away game was, however, a disaster. Lionel Messi was in a very good form, as he contributed five goals to the 7-1 win. Only Karim Bellarabi scored for Leverkusen in stoppage time, when the game was already over as a contest.

Melbourne City are reeling from a raft of injuries as they head into their FFA Cup quarter-final with Heidelberg United on Tuesday night, a match that the A-League side is all too aware looms as a potential banana skin.

Coach John van ‘t Schip has injury concerns over the likes of centre-back Aaron Hughes, forward Harry Novillo, midfielder Jacob Melling, wide man Ben Garuccio, strikers James Brown and David Williams, full-backs Michael Zullo and Ivan Franjic and forward Corey Gameiro, all of whom will miss out or be touch-and-go for this game, and the season-starter the following week against Sydney FC.

Nevertheless van ‘t Schip will not be using his lengthy injury list as an excuse.

“We still have a lot of players available and we will be playing the team that we have been preparing with at training for the last couple of months. It’s a team we are confident in.

“Some players are very close [for the start of the A-League]. It’s too difficult to predict because they have been out for a long time. Garuccio, Hughes, Melling, Novillo are not going to be there for round one. Others may be ready.”

With a tricky away trip first-up, City are glad they have such a searching test as their last hit-out, the coach says.

“This game is a really good tune-up, a very competitive match and good preparation for the A-League season. A game against Heidelberg is perfect to lead in for the game against Sydney.

“As we know in cup games in general there are always surprises and we have to make sure we are prepared. Everyone expects us to win but that’s logical as we are the A-League team. Even so it’s 11 v 11 and we have to make sure we are there from the start.”

City will do all their pre-game preparation at their City Football Academy base just a couple of kilometres up the road from Heidleberg’s Olympic Village ground, and will head straight back there to do their warm down and recovery rather complete the night at the match venue.

Van ‘t Schip is expecting a big crowd, swelled by members of the Greek diaspora keen to see former Greek national captain Kostas Katsouranis in action in his one-off appearance for the Bergers.

“I know quite a bit about them. I have seen them two or three times this year in the NPL. The feedback I have got from other people in the [City] technical staff has been good. They were third in the NPL, they are a team that is balanced.

“They have good players up front, they lost their striker [Daniel Heffernan] to Central Coast, but for this special game they have the Greek international Katsouranis, so it’s going to be very interesting. We have prepared ourselves very well for this game.

“I can imagine that the Greek people in Melbourne are very curious to see this player and it will attract more people to the game. It’s certainly not a culture shock to pay at an NPL ground. We have been playing the last few years in all kinds of venues in Melbourne. Recently we played in Oakleigh and Hume, Epping was our own home base for a period of time.”

If the Heidelberg-City game goes to penalties, City keeper Thomas Sorensen won’t have far to look for advice.

Alexander Pavlidis, who works for City’s media department, is also a goalkeeper with NPL Victoria side Pascoe Vale, who knocked Heidelberg out of the NPL finals on penalties. Pavlidis emerged as the hero that day, saving two Heidelberg spot kicks. He will be perfectly placed to give the former Danish international and Premier League keeper advice about the Bergers’ penalty takers.

This clash is the biggest game in years for Heidelberg. One NPL Victoria club, Hume City, based in Broadmeadows, has already made the last four of the competition but it hasn’t had to knock out A-League opposition to do so. Melbourne Victory are also in the semi-finals.

The other semi-finalist will be determined by the result of the quarter-final being played in Perth, where last year’s beaten cup finalists Perth Glory host the Western Sydney Wanderers.

Δήλωσε συγκινημένος και εντυπωσιασμένος από την φιλοξενία και την υποδοχή που του επεφύλαξε ο Ελληνισμός της Μελβούρνης.

Tη διοργάνωση ενός μεγάλου ποδοσφαιρικού καμπ για παιδιά ανακοίνωσε ο Έλληνας άσος του ποδοσφαίρου, Κώστας Κατσουράνης, κατά τη διάρκεια επίσκεψής του στο Ελληνικό Κέντρο Σύγχρονου Πολιτισμού της Ελληνικής Κοινότητας Μελβούρνης, το Σάββατο το μεσημέρι, δηλώνοντας συγκινημένος και εντυπωσιασμένος από την φιλοξενία και την υποδοχή που του επεφύλαξε ο Ελληνισμός της Μελβούρνης.

Συγκεκριμένα, ανέφερε ότι το Μάρτιο θα επιστρέψει στη Μελβούρνη για τη διοργάνωση ενός μεγάλου ποδοσφαιρικού καμπ: «Υπάρχουν πολλοί Έλληνες εδώ που με αγαπούν και με σέβονται, και αυτό συμβαίνει και από την πλευρά μου» είπε. «Στην πραγματικότητα, θα αρχίσουμε από τώρα την προετοιμασία του καμπ, το οποίο θα αρχίσει να διαφημίζεται σύντομα. Το έχω συζητήσει με τους αντίστοιχους φορείς και παράγοντες εδώ και σιγά-σιγά θα αρχίσουμε τις προετοιμασίες για να είναι όλα έτοιμα έως το Μάρτιο, όπου θα ξαναεπιστρέψω».

Όπως είναι γνωστό, ο Κώστας Κατσουράνης βρίσκεται στη Μελβούρνη, για να αγωνιστεί με τη φανέλα της Χάιντελμπεργκ Γιουνάιτεντ (Μέγας Αλέξανδρος) για ένα παιχνίδι, εκείνο των προημιτελικών του FFA Cup απέναντι στην Μέλμπουρν Σίτι (θυγατρική ομάδα της Μάντσεστερ Σίτι).

Τον Κώστα Κατσουράνη υποδέχθηκε και ξενάγησε στο Ελληνικό Κέντρο αντιπροσωπεία του Διοικητικού Συμβουλίου της Κοινότητας αποτελούμενη από τον πρόεδρο Βασίλη Παπαστεργιάδη, τον αντιπρόεδρο Δημήτρη Μποσινάκη και το μέλος του Δ.Σ. Πολ Ηλιόπουλο. Παρόντες στην συνάντηση με τον μεγάλο Έλληνα ποδοσφαιριστή ήταν οι ευεργέτες της Κοινότητας Γκρεκ Σταμπουλίδης και Πίτερ Αβραάμ, καθώς και εκπρόσωποι ομογενειακών μέσων ενημέρωσης. Τον Κατσουράνη συνόδευαν ο προπονητής του Αλέξανδρου Γιώργος Κατσάκης καθώς και άλλοι παράγοντες της ομάδας, όπως ο Χάρης Τσαλικίδης.

Μετά την ξενάγηση στους χώρους όπου θα λειτουργεί το πολιτιστικό κέντρο, ο Κώστας Κατσουράνης είχε την ευκαιρία να απολαύσει τη θέα του κέντρου της Μελβούρνης από τον τελευταίο όροφο του νέου κοινοτικού κτιρίου και να φωτογραφηθεί με τους παρευρισκόμενους, καθώς και με παιδιά που βρίσκονταν στην Κοινότητα για να τον γνωρίσουν από κοντά.

Εκεί, σε ειδική εκδήλωση που έγινε, ο πρόεδρος της Κοινότητας καλωσόρισε τον διεθνή Έλληνα ποδοσφαιριστή, τόσο στη Μελβούρνη όσο και στο κοινοτικό οίκημα. Αναφερόμενος στον Ελληνισμό της Μελβούρνης και την Κοινότητα, στάθηκε στις επιτυχίες των Ελλήνων σε όλους τους τομείς.

«Εκπαιδευτικοί, ανώτατοι δικαστές, επιστήμονες, γιατροί, δικηγόροι… σε όλους τους τομείς έχουμε επιτύχει σε αυτήν την πόλη» τόνισε. “Όλοι μας αγαπάμε την Ελλάδα, όλοι μας διατηρούμε τις ρίζες μας, και εμείς εδώ στην Κοινότητα χτίζουμε τον μικρό μας Παρθενώνα».

Στη συνέχεια επισήμανε την εκτίμηση που έχουν προς τον Ελληνισμό της Μελβούρνης οι Αυστραλοί πολιτικοί, σε πολιτειακό και ομοσπονδιακό επίπεδο, επισημαίνοντας ότι δεν χάνουν ευκαιρία να παρευρεθούν σε εκδηλώσεις της Κοινότητας. «Κάθε χρόνο έχουμε εδώ στο Φεστιβάλ της Lonsdale, τον πρωθυπουργό της Πολιτείας μας και τον πρωθυπουργό της Αυστραλίας. Και έρχονται γιατί θέλουν να τιμήσουν τους Έλληνες αυτής χώρας» τόνισε.

«Και κάθε φορά που μας επισκέπτονται, τούς υπενθυμίζουμε πως ό,τι έχουμε δημιουργήσει οφείλεται στον ερχομό μας από κάπου αλλού, καθώς και το γεγονός ότι η Αυστραλία έχει κερδίσει από τον δικό μας πολιτισμό, τον Ελληνικό».

ΔΙΑ ΒΙΟΥ ΕΠΙΤΙΜΟ ΜΕΛΟΣ ΤΗΣ ΚΟΙΝΟΤΗΤΑΣ

Ο κ. Παπαστεργιάδης υπογράμμισε πως είναι μεγάλη τιμή για την Κοινότητα που ένας τόσο μεγάλος Έλληνας ποδοσφαιριστής επισκέπτεται τη Μελβούρνη και την Κοινότητα και τον αναγόρευσε σε δια βίου επίτιμο μέλος του οργανισμού.

«Είναι μεγάλη μας τιμή που είσαστε μαζί μας και σας αναγορεύουμε σε δια βίο επίτιμο μέλος της Ελληνικής Κοινότητας Μελβούρνης, για την τεράστια προσφορά σας στον αθλητισμό και το ποδόσφαιρο» τόνισε, παραδίδοντάς του ειδικό πιστοποιητικό, καθώς και την ειδική κάρτα premium μέλους της Κοινότητας.

Στη συνέχεια, ευχήθηκε να κερδίσει ο Αλέξανδρος στον αγώνα της Τρίτης. «Εύχομαι να έχουμε μια μεγάλη νίκη για τον Αλέξανδρο στον αγώνα της Τρίτης» είπε.

«Αν και τα παιδιά μου παίζουν με την Ελλάς Μελβούρνης, ένα μεγάλο κομμάτι του εαυτού μου είναι με τον Αλέξανδρο, καθώς πήγαινα στο γήπεδό του όταν ήμουν παιδί και γιατί υποστηρίζω όλες τις ελληνικές ομάδες στην Βικτώρια, επειδή ενωμένοι μπορούμε να επιτύχουμε πολλά. Ήταν για μένα μια μεγάλη ελληνική ομάδα και ο πατέρας του σημερινού προπονητή Γιώργου Κατσάκη, ο Νίκος Κατσάκης, έχει επενδύσει πολλά χρόνια και χρήματα στην ομάδα. Με τον Γιώργο προπονητή, ο Αλέξανδρος έχει ανέβει πολύ.

Είναι μεγάλη μας τιμή που είσαι μαζί μας».

Με τη σειρά του ο Κώστας Κατσουράνης ευχαρίστησε τον πρόεδρο της Κοινότητας, τον Ελληνισμό της Μελβούρνης και τον Αλέξανδρο για την φιλοξενία και υποδοχή που του επιφύλαξαν, λέγοντας πως από την τελευταία φορά που ήρθε στην Αυστραλία, το 2007, διαπιστώνει την πρόοδο που έχουν οι Έλληνες, οι οποίοι είναι άξιοι συγχαρητηρίων.

«Παντού, αλλά ιδιαίτερα εδώ στην Αυστραλία, οι Έλληνες έχουν επιτύχει πάρα πολλά πράγματα και κρατούν την Ελλάδα ψηλά,” είπε. “Αυτό είναι και το πιο σημαντικό, γιατί έχουν παιδεία και σέβονται και εκτιμούν ανθρώπους που έχουν προσφέρει στην Ελλάδα. Αυτό έχει μεγάλη σημασία γιατί και οι ίδιοι έχουν προσφέρει».

Παράλληλα, εξέφρασε τον ενθουσιασμό του για την Κοινότητα και τις δραστηριότητές της.

«Από την Κοινότητα είμαι πολύ ενθουσιασμένος και από το νέο κοινοτικό κτίριο και από τις δραστηριότητές της, αλλά και από τους ανθρώπους της που με υποδέχθηκαν. Φιλοξενία άριστη και είμαι πολύ χαρούμενος» τόνισε.

ΚΑΤΣΑΚΗΣ: ΜΕΓΑΛΗ ΧΑΡΑ ΚΑΙ ΤΙΜΗ ΓΙΑ ΤΟΝ ΑΛΕΞΑΝΔΡΟ

Τη μεγάλη χαρά του για την παρουσία του Κώστα Κατσουράνη στη Μελβούρνη και στον Αλέξανδρο εξέφρασε για μια ακόμα φορά ο προπονητής του Αλεξάνδρου Γιώργος Κατσάκης, λέγοντας:

«Είναι μεγάλη χαρά και τιμή για εμάς που έχουμε μαζί μας έναν τόσο σημαντικό παίκτη. Σίγουρα αυτά που φέρνει στην ομάδα μας από πλευράς ποδοσφαίρου είναι πολύ σημαντικά. Δεν συμβαίνει ένα τέτοιο γεγονός συχνά… είναι πρωτοφανές για εμάς εδώ. Είναι μεγάλη τιμή για εμάς».

Three days before its challenge at the Emirates Stadium against Arsenal in London for the Champions League, Olympiakos appeared in great form against PAS Giannina on Saturday, while Panathinaikos stayed three points behind with a tight home win over Platanias, and Dimitar Berbatov opened his tally with PAOK.

Olympiakos thrashed PAS 5-1 at the Karaiskakis Stadium with strikes from Pajtim Kasami, Costas Fortounis, Alberto Botia, Jimmy Durmaz and a Themistoklis Tzimopoulos own goal. Andi Lila scored Giannina’s consolation.

The result has stretched Olympiakos’s perfect record to five wins in five games in the Super League, but its next game is at PAOK on October 4.

Panathinaikos, in second, needed a great swerving shot by Abdul Ajagun to beat Platanias 1-0. Its fans jeered at manager Yiannis Anastasiou on his way to the locker room after the final whistle, as the defeat to Panionios and the elimination from Europe have not been forgiven.

PAOK came from behind to beat Atromitos 2-1 at Peristeri late on Sunday, all goals coming in the last half-hour of the match. A spectacular shot by Javier Umbides gave Atromitos the lead, but Berbatov kneed the ball home for the equalizer, and Robert Mak scored the winner for PAOK on the 90th minute.

Panthrakikos secured its first point on the road courtesy of an equalizing goal by Frenchman Nicolas Diguiny on the third minute of time added-on at Panionios for a 1-1 final score, after Tasos Karamanos had given the Nea Smyrni club the lead.

Kalloni Lesvou led Panetolikos 4-0 after 34 minutes and eventually won 5-1 at home, while Levadiakos downed visiting Asteras Tripolis 2-1 and Iraklis drew 1-1 with Xanthi.

On Monday AEK travels to Veria.

Heidelberg United has not stinted on upgrading the infrastructure at its suburban Olympic Village venue, splashing out more than $50,000 to make the old ground a fitting stage for Tuesday night’s FFA Cup quarter-final against local rivals Melbourne City.

The club, once a powerful member of the old National Soccer League, has also pushed the boat out by recruiting former Greek national captain Kostas Katsouranis as a guest player for the tie.

But it is hoping to get payback both on and off the field.

If the Bergers can see off the highly touted City, owned by one of the world’s richest clubs in Premier League plutocrats Manchester City, they will be just 90 minutes away from a Cup final appearance.

And with two other Victorian sides – National Premier League club Hume City and A-League champions Melbourne Victory already through to the last four – there is every chance that the club from the northern suburbs could get a lucrative home tie in the semi-final, too.

Already Heidelberg is expecting its investment in upgrading its lighting system and importing Katsouranis to attract a crowd of more than 6000 for the game.

But a big attendance will be about more than just money.

It will be a reminder to the powers that be that clubs like Heidelberg, and other former NSL teams, still have ambition and popular support and would love to be part of an A-League second division if one is ever created.

“It has meant the world to our fans,” says Bergers coach George Katsanis of the club’s Cup run.

“We set a goal this year to play finals football in the NPL Victoria, go as far as we can in the Dockerty Cup (the FFV’s Cup competition) and of course to qualify for the Final 32 of the FFA Cup. ”

(Heidelberg finished third on the ladder in the regular NPL Victoria season and made the finals, and lost in the semi-finals of the Dockerty Cup to South Melbourne, which qualified them for the final 32 of the FFA Cup).

“Our hurdles of Broadmeadows Magic and Sydney United 58 earlier in the FFA Cup were overcome quite easily,” says Katsanis.

“But leading up to Melbourne City our proposition changes dramatically. It is always an honour to be playing an A-League team especially when you are involved with grassroots football but this is just another sign of the FFA’s achievements in bringing together our highest level with grassroots football.”

Despite the spending required Katsanis believes that a 6000 plus crowd will ensure Heidelberg finish up in the black.

“There are a lot of costs involved in putting on a broadcast FFA Cup match that a grassroots club does not have the infrastructure to normally support. Having said that we believe that if we get the crowd we are expecting we will be in a great financial position for the start of the next season and will look at making facility improvements with the profits.

“We have spent more than $10,000 throughout the year to maintain the pitch in an excellent condition, above and beyond what the City of Banyule spends to maintain it.

“We have spent over $40,000 upgrading the light towers to be able to meet the necessary LUX requirements for a broadcast match and other works like installing lighting in the grandstand and improving our canteen and VIP room. Beyond that, the hire of infrastructure like scaffolding for FoxSports, portable toilets, ambulance on site, and extra security for the day has been a big expense.”

Katsanis is a realist and knows that knocking off an A-League side that finished fourth last season is a tall order. But a win would make a huge statement about the quality of second-tier Victorian soccer – and he wouldn’t care which side he got in the last four, either of the Victorian clubs or the winner of the Western Sydney Wanderers v Perth Glory quarter-final on the same night.

“If we get through having got to that phase of the Cup it would mean we are competitive at all levels and therefore would not make a difference as you’ve earned your right to play either team as you progress through the stages,” he says.

“There is a significant gulf in all levels like the pace and quality of the play (not surprising) considering NPL players also have careers outside of their football (and are part-timers).

“In terms of infrastructure we are miles apart but it is certainly a sign with the introduction of this competition that setting goals can see grassroots players react differently and lift their game to close that gap.”

Heidelberg’s potency in front of goal has, however, been compromised by the loss of English striker Daniel Heffernan, who scored the fastest goal in FFA Cup history when he converted after just 26 seconds to put the Bergers on the road to their 2-0 victory over Sydney United.

“Having built a team around a natural goal scorer it makes things very difficult to adjust especially this late into the FFA Cup. However bringing in someone like Katsouranis has allowed us to make the relevant changes in order to be competitive,” says the coach, who would love to sign the former Greek international for next season.

While the player himself has said that is not part of his plans, the Heidelberg coach is dreaming of a last minute change of heart, especially if the underdogs can pull off a shock win.

“That is something we will assess after the FF Cup game,” he says.

Manchester United has topped the Premier League for the first time in two years following a 3-0 victory over Sunderland, while morning leaders Manchester City crumbled to a 4-1 defeat at Tottenham Hotspur.

At the other end of the table, Chelsea was indebted to Brazilian duo Ramires and Willian who both scored late on to salvage a 2-2 draw for the champions at second from bottom Newcastle United on Sunday morning.

Wayne Rooney ended an 11-match run without a league goal in United’s victory at Old Trafford, with Memphis Depay also scoring his first league goal for the club.

Rooney’s goal, bundled in 40 seconds after the break, took his league tally for the former European champions to 171, joint third with Denis Law on the club’s all-time list.

City’s second successive league defeat, after winning its first five matches, meant United moved top for the first time since the opening day of the 2013-14 season.

Louis van Gaal’s men now have 16 points, one more than City which took the lead at Tottenham through record signing Kevin de Bruyne before the hosts stormed back with England striker Harry Kane finally on target after 12 hours without a goal for his club.

Arsenal fell behind at previously unbeaten Leicester City but Chile striker Alexis Sanchez returned to his best with a hat-trick in a 5-2 victory that lifted the Gunners to fourth with 13 points.

West Ham United is level with Arsenal after drawing 2-2 at home to Norwich City. Tottenham is up to fifth on 12 points.

Struggling Chelsea is sixth from bottom with eight points from seven matches.

“In the first half, from zero to 10, (we were) minus one,” manager Jose Mourinho told Sky Sports after the draw at Newcastle. “But in the second half we played very well.”

Under-pressure Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers enjoyed some relief with Daniel Sturridge bagging a double in a nervy 3-2 home win against Aston Villa.

Southampton breezed past Swansea City 3-1 while Stoke City beat Bournemouth 2-1 in the Potters’ first league win of the season.

Optimism growing at Old Trafford

With Rooney back among the goals and Depay also on target, optimism is growing at Manchester United after going two seasons without challenging for the title.

Depay opened the scoring from Juan Mata’s cut-back and once Rooney had doubled the lead there was no way back for rock bottom Sunderland which has only two points this season.

Mata made sure of victory with the third goal in the final minute.

“That’s what we’re all playing for. We have to work hard to make sure we stay there,” Rooney said after the match.

Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini refused to blame the match officials for his side’s capitulation at Spurs despite the home side’s first and third goals being offside.

“We didn’t play very well against West Ham (last week) in the first half, we didn’t play well here in the second half,” Pellegrini said.

De Bruyne put City ahead in the 25th minute after a counter-attack led by Yaya Toure who failed to finish the game due to a hamstring injury.

Eric Dier levelled for Tottenham on the stroke of half-time with a low shot although Kyle Walker was several metres offside before crossing in the build-up to the goal.

A header from Toby Alderweireld put Tottenham ahead in the 50th minute before Kane, also looking offside, coolly clipped in a rebound when Christian Eriksen’s free kick hit the bar and Erik Lamela completed the rout.

Arsenal fell behind to Jamie Vardy’s early strike but Sanchez then became the first player to score a hat-trick in the top flights of England, Spain and Italy.

Theo Walcott equalised before Sanchez put Arsenal ahead after 33 minutes. The Chilean headed his second in the 57th and completed his treble nine minutes from time.

“He is back to his best level,” manager Arsene Wenger said of Sanchez. “I could see in training a different player in the last week or two and he has shown that today.”

The fifth Arsenal goal came from Olivier Giroud deep into stoppage time.

Φόβοι πως ο Λιονέλ Μέσι θα χρειαστεί να μείνει εκτός γηπέδων για 45 ημέρες εκφράζονται στην Ισπανία. Ο Αργεντινός τραυματίστηκε στο αριστερό γόνατο στην αναμέτρηση με την Λας Πάλμας. Στο 3 λεπτό είχε μία σύγκρουση με τον Μπίγκας και έπεσε στον αγωνιστικό χώρο.

Αμέσως έβαλε τα χέρια του στο γόνατο. Προσπάθησε να συνεχίσει, έμεινε ακόμα 5 λεπτά, αλλά στο 8 βγήκε από το ματς.

Ο Μέσι πήγε στο νοσοκομείο προκειμένου να υποβληθεί σε εξετάσεις. Σύμφωνα με τις πρώτες αντιδράσεις, εκφράζονται φόβοι πως θα χρειαστεί να παραμείνει εκτός γηπέδων για 45 ημέρες.

Αγωνιστικά, λίγες ημέρες μετά τη συντριβή από τη Θέλτα, η Μπαρτσελόνα, επέστρεψε στο δρόμο των επιτυχιών. Οι «μπλαουγκράνα» δεν άφησαν την ευκαιρία να πάει χαμένη και με πρωταγωνιστή και σκόρερ τον Λουίς Σουάρες επικράτησαν 2-1 της Λας Πάλμας.

Ο Αργεντινός σούπερ-σταρ υποβλήθηκε σε εξετάσεις και σε λίγη ώρα αναμένεται επίσημη ανακοίνωση για τον τραυματισμό του.

Κόκκινο χρώμα έχει από το Σάββατο η κορυφή της Premier League. Η Μάντσεστερ Γιουνάιτεντ εκμεταλλεύτηκε στο έπακρο τη συντριβή της «συμπολίτισσας», Μάντσεστερ Σίτι, στο Λονδίνο από την Τότεναμ και με το 3-0 επί της Σάντερλαντ ανέβηκε στο πρώτο σκαλί του βαθμολογικού πίνακα.

Βρισκόμενη σε μεγάλη μέρα, η Αρσεναλ υποχρέωσε τη Λέστερ του Κλαούντιο Ρανιέρι στην πρώτη εφετινή ήττα (2-5) της.

Λίγες ημέρες πριν υποδεχθεί τον Ολυμπιακό για τη 2η αγωνιστική των ομίλων του Champions League, η ομάδα του Αρσέν Βενγκέρ παρέδωσε μαθήματα επιθετικού ποδοσφαίρου.

Τι και οι «αλεπούδες» πήραν προβάδισμα στο 13′ με τον Βάρντι; Χατ-τρικ σημείωσε ο Αλέξις Σάντσες κάνοντας τα πράγματα πολύ πιο απλά, ενώ Γουόλκοτ κλαι Ζιρού πέτυχαν τα άλλα δύο. Τραυματίας αποχώρησε στο πρώτο μέρος ο Φλαμινί.

Η φοβερή Τότεναμ, η οποία δείχνει για πρώτη φορά μετά από χρόνια να έχει αγωνιστικό πλάνο και παίκτες με ταλέντο να το «ζωντανέψουν» στον αγωνιστικό χώρο, συνέχισε την ανοδική της πορεία, αυτή τη φορά συντρίβοντας τη Μάντσεστερ Σίτι με 4-1 στο εναρκτήριο ματς της 7ης αγωνιστικής της Premier League.
Οι «πολίτες» μετά το πολύ δυνατό ξεκίνημα που είχαν στη σεζόν γνώρισαν τη δεύτερη συνεχόμενη ήττα τους στο πρωτάθλημα, αλλά και 3 στη φετινή σεζόν.

Στο αγωνιστικό κομμάτι, αν και η Σίτι προηγήθηκε με γκολ του Ντε Μπρούιν στο 25′, η γηπεδούχος ομάδα χάρη στα γκολ των Ντάιερ (45′), Αλντερβάιρελντ (50′), Κέιν (61′) και Λαμέλα (79′) πανηγύρισε μια τόσο βαθμολογικής όσο και ψυχολογικής σημασίας νίκη.

Μεγάλος χαμένος του αγώνα, εκτός φυσικά από τη Σίτι, ήταν ο διαιτητής, αφού τρία από τα πέντε γκολ της αναμέτρησης (ένα της Σίτι και δύο της Τότεναμ) σημειώθηκαν από θέση οφσάιντ.

Το «διπλό» της Γουέστ Χαμ στο «Ετιχαντ» επί της Σίτι δεν είχε συνέχεια, καθώς τα «σφυριά» έσωσαν στις καθυστερήσεις την παρτίδα με τη Νόριτς (2-2). Στις επιτυχίες επέστρεψαν Λίβερπουλ και Σαουθάμπτον επί των Άστον Βίλα και Σουόνσι αντίστοιχα.

Harry Kane ended his long wait for a Tottenham Hotspur goal as his side came from 1-0 down to beat Manchester City 4-1 at White Hart Lane.

Kevin De Bruyne’s third goal in as many games had put the Barclays Premier League leaders in front midway through the first half but Eric Dier’s superb strike from distance levelled matters in the 45th minute.

Toby Alderweireld’s header handed Spurs the lead before Kane fired in his first club goal of the season to put Mauricio Pochettino’s men 3-1 up. Erik Lamela’s composed finish completed the comeback as City conceded three in one half for the first time in two years.

The win moves Spurs to within three points of City, who have lost back-to-back Barclays Premier League games and will relinquish top spot in the table should Manchester United beat Sunderland later.

Chances were few and far between in the opening exchanges, although Hugo Lloris reacted well to turn Sergio Aguero’s curling effort wide. The Man City striker was then denied by a good block from Jan Vertonghen.

Spurs began to grow into the match but handed City the advantage on 25 minutes. Kyle Walker’s loose pass on the edge of the City area allowed Yaya Toure to burst forward on the break and pick out De Bruyne, who fired low beneath Lloris from the right of the box.

A fine low save from Lloris prevented Raheem Sterling from doubling City’s lead within two minutes, before Lamela lashed over the bar from inside the area and Willy Caballero, who was included in the starting XI with regular goalkeeper Joe Hart on the bench due to a minor injury, denied Kane’s fierce drive.

Caballero could do nothing to prevent Dier levelling the scores in the 45th minute. After his point-blank save from Son Heung-min City failed to clear and the ball broke to Dier outside the area. The 21-year-old drilled a low shot through the crowded box and into the bottom corner.

City started the second half on the front foot but Spurs snatched the lead when Alderweireld headed Lamela’s free-kick over the stranded Caballero, who had tried but failed to claim the cross.

Spurs had their tails up and doubled their lead just past the hour as Kane brought an end to a domestic goal drought lasting 748 minutes. He fired in the rebound after Christian Eriksen’s free-kick had clattered the crossbar.

City pushed for a way back into the match and Jesus Navas’s stinging drive had Lloris at full stretch before Sterling pulled a low shot wide. At the other end, the offside flag came to City’s rescue when Son poked Nacer Chadli’s header over the line.

Lamela clinched the points for Spurs in fine style with a little over 10 minutes to play, collecting Clinton N’Jie’s pass on the break before working his way around Caballero and slotting home.
