Ο τρόπος με τον οποίο πρέπει να τελειώνουν τις φάσεις οι διεθνείς, μονοπώλησε την προπόνηση της Εθνικής ομάδας που διεξήχθη το απόγευμα της Τρίτης στις εγκαταστάσεις του Αγίου Κοσμά, υπό την εποπτεία του Κλάουντιο Ρανιέρι. Ο Ιταλός Ομοσπονδιακός τεχνικός, εστίασε για μια ακόμη φορά στους τρόπους με τους οποίους θα έρθει το ζητούμενο, δηλαδή, το γκολ.

Το αντιπροσωπευτικό συγκρότημα ήταν «άσφαιρο» στην πρεμιέρα των προκριματικών του Euro 2016 απέναντι στη Ρουμανία και το πλήρωσε με μια οδυνηρή εντός έδρας ήττα (0-1), ως εκ τούτου λοιπόν ο Ρανιέρι δεν θα ήθελε να επαναληφθεί το φαινόμενο.

Ο Ιταλός αποδίδει ιδιαίτερη σημασία σε αυτόν τον τομέα του παιχνιδιού και προς αυτή την κατεύθυνση εστίασε με το πρόγραμμά του να περιλαμβάνει τις σωστές τοποθετήσεις που πρέπει να έχουν οι επιθετικοί στις «στημένες» μπάλες, στο πρώτο και δεύτερο δοκάρι.

Ως προς τον τρόπο που προσεγγίζει τον αγώνα του Σαββάτου με τη Φινλανδία, στο Ελσίνκι, το πρόβλημα έχει να κάνει με την αμυντική διάταξη, καθώς η απουσία του τραυματία Χολέμπα, φέρνει ένα… ντόμινο, αφού στη θέση του μπακ της Ρόμα θα πρέπει να αγωνιστεί ένας από τους Σταφυλίδη ή Γιαννούλη, εκτός κι αν μετατεθεί αριστερά ο Τοροσίδης και δεξιά πάει άλλος παίκτης, όπως ο Βύντρα ή ο Σκόνδρας.

Tην προετοιμασία της για τους δύο προσεχείς αγώνες με τις Φινλανδία και Β. Ιρλανδία, στο πλαίσιο των προκριματικών του Euro 2016 ξεκίνησε τη Δευτέρα η Εθνική μας ομάδα ποδοσφαίρου.

Η πρώτη προπόνηση της «γαλανόλευκης» διεξήχθη σε χαμηλούς ρυθμούς, καθώς οι περισσότεροι από τους διεθνείς μας είχαν αγωνιστικές υποχρεώσεις το προηγούμενο Σαββατοκύριακο.

Οι ποδοσφαιριστές της ομάδας μας χωρίστηκαν σε δυο γκρουπ των έξι, όπου έπαιξαν διπλό σε μικρό χώρο και μικρό τέρμα.

Με τα πράσινα αγωνίστηκαν οι: Μόρας, Μαυριας, Σαμαράς, Μήτρογλου, Μάνταλος, Σαλπιγγίδης, Σκόνδρας, ενώ τα μπλε φορούσαν οι: Τοροσίδης, Βύντρα, Τζιόλης, Κλάους, Φορτουνης, Μανιάτης, Καρέλης.

Οι Παπασταθόπουλος, Καρνέζης, Γιαννούλης, Σάμαρης, Ταχτσίδης και Σταφυλίδης έκαναν τρέξιμο, ενώ οι γκολκίπερ, Διούδης, Καπίνο και Γλύκος προπονήθηκαν με τον προπονητή τερματοφυλάκων επίσης σε χαλαρούς ρυθμούς.

Νοκ-άουτ ο Χριστοδουλόπουλος

Από το πρόγραμμα απουσίασαν οι Λάζαρος Χριστοδουλόπουλος και Κώστας Μανωλάς. O πρώτος προέρχεται από τραυματισμό και εξετάστηκε από το ιατρικό τιμ των του αντιπροσωπευτικού συγκροτήματος, όπου διαπιστώθηκε ότι έχει υποστεί θλάση στον τετρακέφαλο.

Έτσι τέθηκε εκτός των δύο προσεχών αναμετρήσεων της Εθνικής μας ομάδας για τα προκριματικά του Euro 2016.

Aπό την πλευρά του ο Κονέ, ο οποίος έχει μια ευαισθησία στον δικέφαλο που τον ανάγκασε να γίνει αλλαγή στο ματς της Ουντινέζε την Κυριακή, αύριο θα κάνει μαγνητική τομογραφία προκειμένου να διαπιστωθεί αν μπορεί να αντιμετωπισθεί με κάποια αγωγή και να προλάβει ένα από τα δυο ματς.

It would have been icing on the cake if South Melbourne managed to make it to the NPL finals series grand final, but sadly it wasn’t so.

It will have to be content with being state champion, a very impressive feat nonetheless.

Back on home soil, South Melbourne went up against talented Adelaide side MetroStars SC on September 28 and succumbed early.

Metro Stars SC faced Bonnyrigg White Eagles in the grand final in NSW on Saturday and were crowned NPL champions after beating the NSW team 1-0.

With their win, they also claim a spot in the 2015 Westfield FFA Cup Round of 32.

That was why it was such a tough match to swallow for South Melbourne, who had an almost faultless season.

But with the bad news came some good news, with the Victorian Labor Party coming on board to support the recent signing of the 40-year lease at Lakeside Stadium.

The member for Albert Park, Martin Foley, who has campaigned to see the lease signed for years, was happy to back the contract from the other side of politics.

“The club as current VPL Champions and as the FIFA Oceania Club of the Century needs this certainty to compete at the highest levels,” he said.

“Victorian Labor initiated the 40-year lease and licence deal for SMFC. We welcome its long delayed arrival.”

The lease agreement was tabled when Labor was in government, signing a Memorandum of Understanding with the club to see it through.

The club is now able to re-start construction on the new social club and futsal centre, progress it’s been wanting to see for years.

With more than 90,000 members signing up to the A-League, the 10th season is set to be the biggest and most colourful.

Thanks to World Cup hysteria, the FFA Cup magic, the NPL rollout and the impending Asian Cup, there has been no better time to get to the A-League.

Starting on Friday with a blockbuster Melbourne Victory and Western Sydney Wanderers match, the league won’t disappoint.

There’s a new look Melbourne Heart, ready to show off their Manchester ties with football superstar David Villa on the pitch.

Sydney FC might be without Alessandro Del Piero, but it has claimed A-League coach superstar Graham Arnold to transition the team so it can stand on its own two feet.

Melbourne Victory has snapped up Roar’s goal machine, Besart Berisha, and has already shown he’s worth the investment in a fantastic pre-season.

Last season’s champion Brisbane Roar showed it are more than capable of making it two championships in a row when it left Greek sponsored club Olympic FC absolutely shell shocked last week.

The Queensland NPL finalists were demolished 10-0 by the Roar.

Albanian striker Mensur Kurtishi scored a whopping five goals for the club, while Youth Player of the Year nominee and Greek Australian, Dimitri Petratos scored two. It will have to be without goalie Michael Theo for a couple of matches as the player recuperates from a FFA Cup match injury.
Season runners-up Western Sydney Wanderers stand on the brink of creating Australian sporting history after booking their spot in the Asian Champions League final with a 2-0 win over FC Seoul on Wednesday.

It’s another huge milestone for the youngest club in the League. The club has reached back-to-back A-League grand finals and won the Premier’s Plate in two years.

Wanderers coach Tony Popovic sees this milestone as the best the club has achieved.

“This is the best. Nothing beats this,” he said.

“We’ve had a lot of special nights but tonight just tops off a fantastic campaign.

“We don’t want it to end. We don’t want to just make the final, we want to win the final.”

Adelaide United have coach Josep Gombau to thank for their resurgence last year and now enter this season with head raised high.

Gombau has assembled a strong squad, targeting key areas that were missing last season, bringing in Victory’s Jimmy Jengo and Dylan McGowan for the midfield, while also grabbing local Craig Goodwin to fill their left back hole after Michael Zullo left.

But of course, most of the fans will be craning to see what a new look Melbourne Heart, now called Melbourne City, will offer this season.

The completely new look team will hopefully make fans forget the abysmal season that saw them finish last.

Despite a surge near the end, it wasn’t enough for the team to avoid a heart attack.

Now with an injection of money and very useful connections, City is harbouring one of the league’s highest profile players, even if it’s on a short loan basis.

Spanish superstar David Villa, who’s won the Champions League, two Copa del Rey titles, three La Liga championships and the World Cup will fill the celebrity role this season.

But it won’t be easy sailing for him, Aussie great Harry Kewell says.

“Everyone that comes over here thinks it’s going to be easy, and I think they get a rude awakening straight away,” Kewell said to Fox Sports.

“It’s a tough and physical league and that’s what I was impressed with.

“Let’s just hope he can put on a great show.”

David Villa, who arrived yesterday will be available for selection in City’s opening match against Sydney FC.

At least he says he’s aware of the heightened expectations.

“From what I have heard, my arrival has generated a lot of high expectations for the club and I hope that I can meet them,” he said.

Taking on Sydney FC might become a bit of a grudge match, after City claimed the sky blue colours for themselves, leaving Sydney FC and its fans in uproar.

At least it’s up for the task. Sydney FC drew 1-1 on the weekend in a match against Melbourne Victory in Tasmania, and has had a faultless FFA Cup campaign.

Perth Glory’s season opener is one of the toughest, having to travel all the way to New Zealand to play Wellington Phoenix.

Yet, its FFA Cup participation has shown it’s up for the task. It’s one of five remaining clubs to pay in the semi finals in late October.

The Phoenix has had two poor seasons in a row, and now needs to get the crowds back.

Coach Ernie Merrick has overhauled a large portion of his squad, but hasn’t done much to fill its defence problems, signing only one new defender, Tom Doyle.

Newcastle Jets might have lost breakout star Adam Taggart, but have signed Melbourne Victory’s Marco Flores.

Whether it’ll be a litmus test for the season or a chance to rub off the pre-season, the opening matches this season will have fans in raptures.

David Villa’s earlier than expected Australian arrival allowed him to train with his new Melbourne City teammates on Monday morning, and increases the likelihood of the Spanish superstar taking a starting role in the newly branded club’s first match of the A-League season on Saturday night against Sydney FC.

Villa, a World Cup, European Championship and Champions League titleholder, is one of the best credentialled players to arrive in this country.

He has joined the Manchester City-owned Australian club for a guest stint of up to 10 games from his main employer, the English club’s American franchise, New York City. The move is to boost the Melbourne affiliate and to help him stay fit before the 2015 MLS season kicks off in March. Villa, 32, had not been expected to arrive until Tuesday.

And while his new coach, John van `t Schip was guarded about the chances of his immediate involvement, it will surely prove far too tempting not to use him from the first whistle if he is able to train all week.

“Just now to say if I am going to put him in the line-up or on the bench … we all know what he has achieved,” van `t Schip said. “If you put him on the bench you will have a reason. We don’t want to force things and in the end things don’t work out well because we are human and not robots. There are things we have to look at carefully.

“He only had 20 days holiday after the World Cup, then started working out, training for the last month with players in New York in a group situation.

“This morning he looked really sharp and fresh, we know how the jet lag works, we have to take that into consideration this week.

“David is really focused on integrating into the way we want to play, getting to know the group and the players. He is really professional. He is here to help us. We are here to help him.”

Villa fronted the media on Monday afternoon for his first appearance in a new strip and said what might be expected in such a situation – that he was looking forward to the experience, wanted to leave the fans with good memories, and help his teammates win games.

“I feel good and prepared,” he said. “I have been working hard. My last game was the Spain v Australia match [at the World Cup], then I took the usual summer break every player takes. I have been working hard and training, and I hope to be ready for the [opening] game.”

But it was interesting when Villa was asked whether he would stay for the full 10-game period that a guest player is allowed in the A-League, which would take him to mid-December – just before the pre-Christmas derby with Melbourne Victory.

“The agreement is for 10 games, but that really is up to the two clubs [New York and Melbourne City],” Villa said through a translator. “I will do my best and play to the best of my capabilities, but it’s really up to the clubs … to make the final decision.”

Socceroos coach Ange Postecoglou isn’t taking the impending Asian Cup lightly, and has been working towards a tactic since before the World Cup.

“Even pre-World Cup we scouted every Asian team at the World Cup. We’ve got people on the ground everywhere,” he said, speaking at the launch of the 100 days to go milestone for January’s Cup.

“We’re not underestimating the enormity of this challenge. There won’t be anything any Asian team has done over the last six months – whether they’re in our group or not – that we won’t know about. The one thing we won’t be short of is preparation.”

Postecoglou’s pedantic nature is also translated to his players, often travelling to see Australian potentials in action and sitting them down for a decisive interview.

His imperative is to stamp out over-confidence.

“One thing we won’t be doing is being that arrogant that we’re thinking about doing things before we’ve done the hard work,” he says.

“Our job is to prepare the team for a really, really tough tournament. Our focus is on preparing for that first game in Melbourne [against Kuwait].”

The team will take on Kuwait on January 9, and will play three friendlies before then.

The 23-man squad is off to the Middle East in two weeks to take on the UAE and Qatar before heading to Japan in November to take on the Blue Samurai.

Ολοταχώς προς την κατάκτηση του τίτλου, οδεύει η Τσέλσι του Ζοζέ Μουρίνιο. Στο πλαίσιο της 7ης αγωνιστικής για την Premier League, οι «μπλε» νίκησαν 2-0 την Αρσεναλ στο λονδρέζικο ντέρμπι και δείχνουν να μην έχουν αντίπαλο, εξαιρέσει της Μάντσεστερ Σίτι.

Τα τέρματα της Τσέλσι, που παραμένει μόνη πρώτη στην βαθμολογία, πέτυχαν οι Αζάρ (28` πέναλτι) και Ντιέγκο Κόστα (78`).

Μεγάλη αίσθηση προκάλεσε η αντιπαράθεση ανάμεσα σε Αρσέν Βενγκέρ και Ζοσέ Μουρίνιο. Συγκεκριμένα ο τεχνικός της Άρσεναλ ζήτησε το λόγο από τον Πορτογάλο, για ένα μαρκάρισμά του Κέιχιλ πάνω στον Σάντσεζ με τον Αλσατό να σπρώχνει δύο φορές τον «Μου».

Στο άλλο ντέρμπι της αγωνιστικής, το γκολ του Φαλκάο στο 66ο λεπτό, αλλά και οι εκπληκτικές επεμβάσεις του Ντε Χέα έδωσαν στην Μάντσεστερ Γιουνάιτεντ την, δεύτερη σερί, νίκη της απέναντι στην Έβερτον με 2-1.

Η ομάδα του Λουίς Φαν Γκάαλ προηγήθηκε με τον Ντι Μαρία στο 27΄, ενώ ισοφαρίστηκε με πολύ όμορφο γκολ του Νέισμιθ στο 55′.

Τη νίκη στους «κόκκινους διάβολους» έδωσε ο Φαλκάο με ένα αυθεντικό «σεντερφορίσιο» γκολ, αφού μετά του κακό σουτ του Ντι Μαρία, πετάχτηκε στην φάση, έβαλε το πόδι του, άλλαξε πορεία στη μπάλα και την έστειλε στα δίχτυα.

Αξίζει να σημειωθεί πως τα «ζαχαρωτά» έχασαν πέναλτι στο τέλος του πρώτου ημιχρόνου, όταν ο Ντε Χέα, απέκρουσε την προσπάθεια του Μπέινς.

Ενώ το γκολ του Ερικσεν στο 40ο λεπτό χάρισε στην Τότεναμ ένα σημαντικό τρίποντο. Oι «πετεινοί» νίκησαν 1-0 την Σαουθάμπτον και βελτίωσαν την βαθμολογική τους θέση στην Premier League, σταματώντας παράλληλα το εντυπωσιακό σερί των «Αγίων».

Τέλος, η Γουέστ Χαμ δεν δυσκολεύθηκε να νικήσει την ουραγό ΚΠΡ με 2-0, χάρη σε γκολ των Ονούχα κα Σακχό.

Ακόμη ένα χατ τρικ για τον Κριστιάνο Ρονάλντο

Με τη Ρεάλ Μαδρίτης να σημειώνει την τέταρτη διαδοχική νίκη της και να ανεβαίνει στην τέταρτη θέση της βαθμολογίας, ολοκληρώθηκε η 7η αγωνιστική του ισπανικού πρωταθλήματος.

Οι «μερένγκες» επιβλήθηκαν με χαρακτηριστική άνεση της Αθλέτικ Μπιλμπάο με 5-0 στο «Σαντιάγκο Μπερναμπέου», με τον Κριστιάνο Ρονάλντο να σημειώνει ακόμη ένα χατ-τρικ και να φτάνει τα 13 γκολ στο φετινό πρωτάθλημα.

Την ίδια στιγμή, οι Βάσκοι του Ερνέστο Βαλβέρδε συνεχίζουν να απογοητεύουν και πλέον βρίσκονται στην τελευταία θέση της κατάταξης, μαζί με τις νεοφώτιστες Κόρντομπα και Λα Κορούνια.

Νωρίτερα, η Εσπανιόλ επικράτησε στη Βαρκελόνη 2-0 της Ρεάλ Σοσιεδάδ και βελτίωσε τη βαθμολογική της θέση.

Στις νίκες επέστρεψε η Σεβίλη που ξέσπασε πάνω στη Λα Κορούνια την οποία κέρδισε με 4-1 σε αναμέτρηση για την 7η αγωνιστική του ισπανικού πρωταθλήματος.

Με αυτή τη νίκη η ομάδα της Ανδαλουσίας ανέβηκε στην τρίτη θέση, πίσω από Μπαρτσελόνα και Βαλένθια που καταλαμβάνουν την πρώτη και δεύτερη θέση αντίστοιχα.

Δύο γκολ πέτυχε ο Μ΄Μπία, ενώ από ένα Μπάκα και Βιτόλο. ενδιάμεσα είχε ισοφαρίσει ο Μεντούγιανιν.

Η Βιγιαρεάλ υποχρέωσε τη Θέλτα στην πρώτη φετινή της ήττα στο ισπανικό πρωτάθλημα, καθώς τη νίκησε 3-1 μέσα στο «Μπαλαϊδος» του Βίγκο.

Δύο γκολ του Μόι Γκόμεθ μέσα σε ένα δίλεπτο στο πρώτο ημίχρονο έβαλαν τα θελέμια της νίκης για το «κίτρινο υποβρύχιο», παρότι οι γηπεδούχοι μείωσαν με τον Λαριβέι και είχαν ευκαιρίες να ισοφαρίσουν, πριν ο Γκασπάρ «σφραγίσει» στις καθυστερήσεις τη νίκη της Βιγιαρεάλ.

Chelsea maintained their impressive start to the Barclays Premier League season with a 2-0 over Arsenal at Stamford Bridge.

Eden Hazard’s first-half penalty and Diego Costa’s ninth goal of the season sent Chelsea five points clear of their nearest rivals Manchester City at the top of the table. The defeat ended Arsenal’s unbeaten start to the Barclays Premier League campaign, as Arsene Wenger’s men fell nine points behind their London neighbours after seven matches. The only downside for the home faithful was an injury to first-choice goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois, who was forced off after suffering a blow to the head in an early collision with Alexis Sanchez.

Both sides made one change following their exploits in the UEFA Champions League in midweek, as Cesar Azpilicueta returned at left-back for Chelsea in place of Filipe Luis and Jack Wilshere came in for Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain for the visitors.

After a 15-minute delay to kick-off, there was a moment of concern for Chelsea in the 10th minute as Courtois collided with Alexis. The goalkeeper was able to get to his feet and resume action but had to be withdrawn in the 24th minute, as Petr Cech entered the fray.

After 27 cautious minutes, a moment of magic from Hazard led to Chelsea breaking the deadlock.

The Belgian drifted beyond Santi Cazorla and Chambers, before being upended by Koscielny’s trip inside the box. Hazard, who scored a penalty in the 6-0 rout last season, calmly sent Wojciech Szczesny the wrong way from the spot.

Wilshere almost had a chance to equalise but his poor touch allowed Cech to gather.

Chelsea almost doubled their lead shortly before the hour when Hazard’s driven cross deflected off Mathieu Flamini and then the arm of Szczesny, before Arsenal had claims for a penalty when Wilshere’s effort hit the arm of Fabregas waved away.

Hazard could have netted his and Chelsea’s second when he fired off target from close range 14 minutes from time but soon afterwards, Costa made the game safe. He ran on to Cesc Fabregas’s pass and lobbed a deft finish over the advancing Szczesny.

Arsenal desperately chased the game, but Chelsea comfortably held on to secure maximum points.

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho: “It was a difficult game. They started better than us, but Eden gave us the penalty and the first goal and the game could have finished there if it had been a red card.

“At the end of day they had more of the ball than us but we had the chances so we scored two goals, we won and I am happy we beat a good team.”

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger: “It was down to the little things that were on their side but it was a very even game. If you look at the number of saves our keeper had made you find nothing, and theirs as well, so the game was about who can take advantage of an opportunity.

“We couldn’t score and they did so at the end of the day you have to say yes [Chelsea were more ruthless].”
