Εκτός Ευρώπης έμεινε ο ΠΑΟΚ. Στο παιχνίδι που κρινόταν η πρόκριση στους «32» του Europa League, ο «Δικέφαλος» του Βορρά ηττήθηκε 2-1 από την Γκινγκάμπ στην Τούμπα, στο πλαίσιο της 6ης και τελευταίας αγωνιστικής του 11ου ομίλου.

Οι Θεσσαλονικείς, που ήθελαν μόνο τη νίκη, έμειναν στην 3η θέση του γκρουπ, πίσω από τους Γάλλους που θα συνεχίσουν στη διοργάνωση και τη Φιορεντίνα που τερμάτισε στην πρώτη θέση.

Ο Μποβού στο 7′ και στο 83′ πέτυχε τα γκολ της Γκινγκάμπ, ενώ στο 22′ ο Αθανασιάδης είχε ισοφαρίσει προσωρινά με πέναλτι που είχε κερδίσει ο ίδιος.

Στην πρώτη φάση του αγώνα η Γκινγκάμπ πήρε προβάδισμα στο σκορ με ωραία καρφωτή κεφαλιά του Μποβί στο 7′ από φάουλ που εκτελέστηκε από δεξιά από τον Ζιρές. Ο ΠΑΟΚ μετά τον αιφνιδιασμό αυτό προσπάθησε να ανασυνταχθεί και στο 11′ μακρινό σουτ του Κάτσε έξω από τη μεγάλη περιοχή της Γκινγκάμπ, μπλοκάρει εύκολα ο Λεσλ.

Ψύχραιμα ο ΠΑΟΚ αντιμετωπίζει την αρνητική αυτή εξέλιξη και στο 22′ κερδίζει πέναλτι που παραχωρεί ο Γιάκομπσεν κόβοντας την πορεία της μπάλας με το χέρι σε σέντρα του Αθανασιάδη. Ο αρχηγός του ΠΑΟΚ που συμπλήρωσε σήμερα 200 συμμετοχές στην καριέρα του, πέτυχε με εύστοχο χτύπημα το 1-1 φέρνοντας την ισορροπία στην αναμέτρηση.

Στο 30΄ ο Περέιρα προσπάθησε με πάσα βρίσκει τον Ρατς, ο οποίος σαν επιθετικός, κάνει την προβολή, χωρίς ωστόσο να προλαβαίνει την μπάλα, με τον Λεσλ να μπλοκάρει. Στο 32′ ο Μαντάν σε μια σπουδαία φάση για την Γαλλική ομάδα, σημαδεύει το αριστερό δοκάρι του Γλύκου.

Επιθετικά μπαίνει στην επανάληψη στον αγώνα ο ΠΑΟΚ και στο 52΄ δημιουργεί και χάνει μια σημαντική και πολύ μεγάλη ευκαιρία για το δεύτερο γκολ. Ο Ρατς εκτέλεσε το κόρνερ ο Σαλπιγγίδης πήρε την κεφαλιά δίνοντας πάσα στον Αθνασιάδη ο οποίος επίσης με κεφαλιά εξ` επαφής έστειλε την μπάλα στο δοκάρι της Γκινγκάμπ, ενώ η δεύτερη κεφαλιά του πήγε στην αγκαλιά του Λεσλ.

Οι Γάλλοι όμως δεν περιοριζονται στην άμυνα. Εχοντας το πλεονέκτημα της ταχύτητας δημιουργούν αραιά αλλά επικίνδυνα καταστάσεις στα μετόπισθεν του ΠΑΟΚ και αυτό δεν μπορεί να το αντιμετωπίσει η ελληνική ομάδα. Στο 60′ σε μια γρήγορη αντεπίθεση από σέντρα του Πιέντ ο Ζιρές κάτοχος της μπάλας στην περιοχή του ΠΑΟΚ σουτάρει δυνατά για να αποκρούσει ενστικτωδώς ο Γλύκος και να σώσει έτσι την εστία του.

H συνέχεια της αναμέτρησης κρύβει μια άγρια ομορφιά καθώς ο ΠΑΟΚ με δυνάμεις προσπαθεί να βγει επιθετικά αλλά από την άλλη πλευρά η Γκινγκάμπ με ξαφνικές και πολύ επικίνδυνες αντεπίθέσεις πλησιάζει στην εστία του Γλύκου.

Ο ΠΑΟΚ επιμένει παρά την κούραση των παικτών του και στο 73΄ο Αθανασιάδης πλησιάζει στο καθοριστικό δεύτερο γκολ, το σουτ όμως του διεθνή φορ, περνά μόλις πάνω από τα δοκάρια του Λεσλ.

Στο 84′ όμως οι Γάλλοι βάζουν την σφραγίδα τους στο παιχνίδι. Ο Μποβί μετά από πολύ καλή ενέργεια και πάσα του Σανκαρέ με δυνατό σουτ παραβιάζει την εστία του Γλύκου διαμορφωνοντας το 1-2 που «γονατίζει» τον ΠΑΟΚ και τον αφήνει εκτός πρόκρισης στην επόμενη φάση του Europa League.

Ο ΠΑΟΚ χωρίς πολλές λύσεις αν και η προσπάθεια του ήταν φανερή, «λύγισε» τελικά στην Γκινγκάμπ, μια ομάδα με αρετές και ταχύτητα στις αντιδράσεις της που πήρε δίκαι τη νίκη άρα και την πρόκριση. Η ελληνική ομάδα παρουσίασε τις ίδιες χτυπητές αδυναμίες στην άμυνα με αργές αντιδράσεις και ατολμία στην επίθεση.

Η Γκινγκάμπ με κορυφαίο παίκτη τον σκόρερ των δυο τερμάτων της Μποβί, έδειξε πως παρά τις απουσίες της είχε λύσεις και έπαιξε παρά την πίεση του ΠΑΟΚ καλό παιχνίδι κερδίζοντας την πρόκριση στην συνέχεια της διοργάνωσης για πρώτη φορά στην ιστορία της στην φάση των «32»

Western Sydney coach Tony Popovic has praised his players’ professionalism after the pay dispute that threatened the club’s Club World Cup campaign was finally resolved.

The Wanderers squad had threatened to boycott this weekend’s match against Mexican side Cruz Azul in Morocco because of what they considered an unfair share of tournament prize money.

But a tense stand-off lasting almost a week ended on Thursday, with the Wanderers and Professional Footballers Australia announcing they had reached a new agreement.

While both parties refused to reveal the details, it is believed the players will receive a significant increase on the initial offer of a 10 per cent of the guaranteed $1.2 million prize money but less than the 50 per cent they sought.

The controversy has overshadowed the Asian Champions’ build-up to a match that could lead to a dream semi-final against Real Madrid, but Popovic said the resolution would change little on the training paddock.

“We see on paper that something has been resolved but for the last two days, I have seen a group determined to do very well here,” Popovic said in Rabat on Thursday.

“There’s a unity amongst the staff and players that is normal for me.

“I haven’t seen a change and I don’t expect to see a change because I have been very happy with how they have looked since we arrived.”

While there are suggestions the dispute could damage relations between the players and club in the long run, Popovic praised the handling of the issue from all parties.

“It’s a credit to the club – not just the players,” he said.

“It’s unfortunate that there has been an issue in public domain but I am not surprised to see how well they have looked after their bodies and have conducted themselves to prepare for a fantastic game, which we are a part of.

“As a coach I have seen nothing to worry me.”

The Wanderers are long outsiders to beat North American champions Cruz Azul, with the winner to face Real Madrid in the semi-finals.

Western Sydney are winless in the A-League after the first nine rounds but Popovic said there were strong signs to suggest his team could rise to the occasion in the Moroccan capital.

“When we train well, we play well and this week I’ve already seen some great things on the training paddock,” he said.

“Playing well doesn’t mean we’ll win on Saturday but we’ll certainly go into it with confidence.”

The Wanderers have drawn rivals Guangzhou Evergrande in their Asian Champions League group but are currently languishing in last place in the A-League.

Newcastle Jets coach Phil Stubbins has called on the city to get behind his team as they battle to re-gain form.

The Jets have managed just four draws from nine starts this season, but have been in winning positions and surrendered the lead in the final minutes of several games.

They are backing up after a disappointing 3-1 loss at home to Wellington Phoenix.

Stubbins does not feel under pressure, but said his team would benefit from knowing the community is behind them when they take on the Glory in Perth tonight.

“You want to win games, and the more you go without it you get a little bit more edgy towards wanting the result, but in terms of the pressure, no,” he said.

“The flipside of it is that we need to be supported. I think Its all good to kick a dog when it is down, so to speak.

“But, we’ve got a lot of things that we’ve done right and we’ve done well and with support I think that is going to help us get out of the hole that we are in.”

Stubbins said his team cannot be worrying about its poor record in Perth.

“If we go to Perth and think it is just a graveyard for us, we haven’t got the right mentality in the group,” he said.

“We need to go there with a real pair of them.

“It’s a great record Perth has got, but it would be a fantastic one for us to break and certainly, in the current circumstances, it would be a very nice tasting beer after the game if that was to happen.”

Jets coach excited by prospect of European takeover

Meanwhile, Newcastle Jets coach Phil Stubbins said he is excited by the prospect of the team being taken over by a European club.

The Jets operation is for sale after the owner, former mining magnate Nathan Tinkler, announced in August he was selling the team and his A-League licence.

Scottish club Dundee United has expressed an interest in acquiring the Jets.

Coach Stubbins said he has not personally met with any representatives from Dundee United, but believes new ownership will help with the salary cap and attract marquee players.

“Look I hope so,” he said.

“I think the Newcastle Jets is an unbelievable platform, not only into Australian football and the A-League, but also into Asia.

“For any prospective owner out there taking over the Newcastle Jets I would say it is a fantastic opportunity.

“If we did have new ownership, I think we would all welcome what that would bring to the table for the Newcastle Jets.”

Εκ των πραγμάτων, το έργο του ΑΠΟΕΛ ήταν πολύ δύσκολο στην Αμστερναμ Αρίνα, γεγονός που αποτυπώθηκε και στο χορτάρι. Στο πρώτο μέρος η ομάδα του Γιώργου Δώνη κράτησε ικανοποιητικά και δεν επέτρεψε στον αντίπαλό της να φτάσει σε πολλές ευκαιρίες και να απειλήσει. Στο τελευταίο λεπτό του ημιχρόνου όμως, ο “Αίαντας” κέρδισε πέναλτι που μετέτρεψε σε γκολ ο Σχόνε.

Το τέρμα αυτό ουσιαστικά καθόρισε τη μοίρα του αγών αφού ο ΑΠΟΕΛ δεν μπόρεσε ποτέ να συνέλθει από το σοκ. Μόλις στο 50 ο Σχόνε με το δεύτερο προσωπικό του γκολ διαμόρφωσε το 2-0 (μετά από περιπετειώδη φάση διαρκείας) και στο 53′ ο Κλάασεν ανέβασε το δείκτη του σκορ στο 3-0 με ωραία κεφαλιά μετά από εξαιρετική προσπάθεια του Κίσνα. Το τελικό 4-0 διαμορφώθηκε από τον Μίλικ στο 74′

Η Μπαρτσελόνα ανέτρεψε το εις βάρος της σκορ στο Καμπ Νου και νικώντας 3-1 την Παρί Σεν Ζερμέν πήρε την πρώτη θέση του ομίλου. Ο ΑΠΟΕΛ του Γιώργου Δώνη ηττήθηκε με 4-0 από τον Αγιαξ στο Αμστερνταμ και έμεινε στο τελευταίο σκαλί.

Το διακύβευμα δεν ήταν διόλου ασήμαντο στο Καμπ Νου, Μπαρτσελόνα και Παρί Σεν Ζερμέν διεκδίκησαν την πρώτη θέση του ομίλου. Η πρωταθλήτρια Γαλλίας βολευόταν μόνο με νίκη και μπαίνοντας με περισσότερο θράσος στο ματς κατάφερε να προηγηθεί στο 15′ με το ωραίο σουτ στην κίνηση του Ιμπραχίμοβιτς.

Η Μπαρτσελόνα όμως, μπροστά στο κίνδυνο να απωλέσει την πρωτιά του ομίλου να και να μπει σε περιπέτειες σε ότι αφορά την κλήρωση της επόμενης φάσης, αντέδρασε συντονισμένα ισοφαρίζοντας στο 19′ με τον Μέσι και παίρνοντας το προβάδισμα στο 42′ με το εξαιρετικό σουτ του Νεϊμάρ έξω από την περιοχή.

Στο δεύτερο, ο Λουίς Ενρίκε είχε την πολυτέλεια να ρίξει στη μάχη τους Ράκιτιτς και Τσάβι γεγονός που βοήθησε την Μπαρτσελόνα να ελέγξει την κατάσταση χωρίς να αδιαφορεί για την επίθεση. Στο 77′ δε τα πάντα τελείωσαν όταν ο Σουάρες διαμόρφωσε από κοντά το 3-1 για τους Καταλανούς.

Samir Nasri opened the scoring before teeing up Pablo Zabaleta for a late clincher as the English side squeezed through to the knockout stage.

Samir Nasri was the architect of Manchester City FC’s passage to the UEFA Champions League knockout stages, a 2-0 victory at AS Roma consigning the Italian side to third in Group E.

An open game hung in the balance on the hour when Nasri advanced to the edge of the penalty area and hit an unstoppable shot that took a lick of paint from the inside of Morgan De Sanctis’ near post on its way in. The Stadio Olimpico fell silent, and though they found their voice when Kostas Manolas headed onto the upright, with four minutes left the immaculate Nasri teed up Pablo Zabaleta to end any lingering doubt.

With PFC CSKA Moskva losing 3-0 to FC Bayern München the result was enough to take City into Friday’s draw as Manuel Pellgrini’s side’s campaign gathers timely momentum. Roma at least have the consolation of a UEFA Europa League spot, but would have hoped for more amid a bright start that almost brought an early goal when Francesco Totti picked out the unmarked José Holebas. The full-back’s shot could not squeeze past Joe Hart.

How finely poised the game was became evident when, within the space of 15 seconds, both sides very nearly took the lead. First James Milner went close for City, forcing a fine stop from De Sanctis; the ball was led straight down the other end by Gervinho, who went even closer to breaking the deadlock. Hart’s fingertip save came to the visitors’ rescue.

Francesco Totti struggles to find a way through

Jesús Navas helped City gain a foothold, twice teeing up Edin Džeko while Radja Nainggolan, imperious in the Roma midfield, relieved the pressure in his own manner, sending a searching ball from deep to put the livewire Gervinho through. Hart once again stood firm. Navas, increasingly the source of danger, provided a shorter if equally penetrating pass for Milner, who was denied in similar fashion by De Sanctis.

The interval did not temper City’s momentum and, with Roma starting to sit back, they sensed their chance and Nasri took it. The hosts gained some urgency as Nainggolan went close before Manolas went closer still. Mattia Destro’s effort was blocked by Martín Demichelis before another Argentinian defender, Zabaleta, landed the killer blow at the other end.

Goals from Thomas Müller, Sebastian Rode and Mario Götze ensured the Group E winners head into the knockout phase on a high.

FC Bayern München rounded off another successful group stage campaign with a comfortable 3-0 victory against PFC CSKA Moskva.

With his side already assured of top spot, Bayern boss Josep Guardiola allowed himself the luxury of rotation and brought in youngsters Gianluca Gaudino and Pierre Højbjerg for rare starts. Neither looked out of place as Bayern knitted their familiar passing patchwork, though they were almost given a rude awakening when Seydou Doumbia headed a Roman Eremenko cross narrowly wide early on.

Caught between going all out for the win they required to progress and defending for a point which could potentially earn them a spot in the UEFA Europa League, CSKA looked torn at times. Bayern struggled to take advantage, though, with Jérome Boateng’s hopeful strike from distance their most meaningful effort on goal.

That was until the 18th minute, when Franck Ribéry’s trickery got the better of Bebras Natcho, whose trailing leg caught the Frenchman’s ankle and sent him tumbling. Thomas Müller showed typical efficiency from the spot, sending Igor Akinfeev the wrong way to break the deadlock.

However, Bayern were far from watertight. A marvellous piece of skill from Doumbia left the Ivorian clean through on 23 minutes, but Manuel Neuer rushed out to deny him. At the other end, Ribéry slipped a clever ball through for Bastian Schweinsteiger, but the FIFA World Cup winner’s fierce shot was tipped over by Akinfeev and the hosts failed to seriously threaten again until well into the second half.

Arjen Robben was the chief protagonist. The Dutch international had clearly been given instructions from Guardiola to kill the game off and duly set about making a nuisance of himself. A dragged shot wide and a header on target preceded an even closer try just before the hour as he smashed goalwards from the left. Akinfeev stood firm to repel.

Ahmed Musa managed to get a rare shot away for CSKA heading into the latter stages, but the fresh legs of Robben began to run the show. Jinking his way in from the right time after time, the 30-year-old was unfortunate to see a finish of his own saved before dinking over for Lewandowski, whose header was diffused on the line by Sergey Ignashevich.

The Poland striker could barely believe minutes later when he rounded the keeper only to see his finish come back off a post with the goal at his mercy, but Sebastian Rode put matters beyond any doubt six minutes from time, as he headed in a cross from the outstanding Schweinsteiger. Götze put the icing on a cake with a tidy finish to make it three in added time.

Lasse Schöne, Davy Klaassen and Arkadiusz Milik found the net as Ajax beat APOEL in the race for third place and a UEFA Europa League spot.

AFC Ajax secured a berth in the UEFA Europa League round of 32 with a 4-0 victory over APOEL FC in the battle for third place in UEFA Champions League Group F.

As expected the visitors sat deep and waited for the chance to spring a counterattack. The ploy worked insofar as Ajax failed to find a way through the well-drilled APOEL rearguard until the very last kick of the first half, when Lasse Schöne converted a penalty after Arkadiusz Milik was tripped in the box. It was a more assertive display from the hosts after the restart, with Schöne, Davy Klaassen and Milik all scoring in what turned out to be a routine success in Amsterdam.

Ricardo van Rhijn curled a fine early effort narrowly over as Ajax made their attacking intentions clear. Yet the Cypriot title holders were always ready to pounce, and George Efrem forced a corner and then had a wayward long-range shot from two breakaway attacks. Back came the Eredivisie team, Ricardo Kishna firing in a superb cross from the left only for Milik to dive low and head against Urko Pardo’s legs.

The complexion of the Group F match changed on the stroke of half-time. Marios Antoniades tripped Milik as he bore down on goal and Schöne stroked the resultant spot kick just beyond Pardo’s outstretched fingers. It was the same two Ajax players who put the game out of APOEL’s reach directly after the restart. Schöne fed his Polish striking partner and when Milik’s shot was blocked the Denmark forward was on hand to slide in the loose ball.

Almost immediately a fine individual action from Kishna ended in a cross which Klaassen gleefully nodded home. Joël Veltman should have made it four from yet another excellent Kishna delivery but his back-post header was fractionally too high.

The Dutch champions continued to dominate and Pardo saved well from Kishna after good build-up play by Thulani Serero. It was therefore no surprise when Klaassen supplied Milik to register his first-ever goal in UEFA club competition.

Frank de Boer’s side now have the prospect of a UEFA Europa League campaign to look forward to in 2015. For Giorgos Donis’s APOEL, there is the consolation of having gained invaluable experience against some of the world’s best players these past six matchdays.
