It was a tough night at the office for Jets goalkeeper Mark Birighitti .
SOME Jets fans are calling it the worst performance in the clubs history.
Whilst it is still early in the season, the Jets are yet to record a win, and big name signings are either under performing or heading for the exit.
Some supporters are prepared to give the side time, given Phil Stubbins’ is a new coach, with a new squad, but others are calling for drastic change.
The Jets have missed the finals for four straight seasons and it’s already looking like being five.
Fans’ frustration reached boiling point following the 4-0 defeat to the Roar on Friday evening.
We asked the fans what needs to change and here’s some of their responses.
Josh Corrigan (Facebook) – “Ok so I’m late to the party but damn last nights performance was dreadful. My brothers under 6’s team can string more passes together and what was that line up? Stubbins can’t control how they play but he can control how the team lines up. Newcastle Jets Supporters? Newcastle Jets sufferers more like it…
Billy (Herald Online) – Probably one of the worst capitulations seen by a Jets team, probably the worst coaching blunder seen in the A League. Next week SVE takes his glass half full crap to the Asian champions, if he survives a public flogging ! If Mulvey didn’t leave Stubby a bottle of champers for the motivation he gave his team then he ought to have! It’s also the other decisions made by Stubby that draws the comparisons to GVE and anyone with half a brain and minimal football knowledge will be able to identify. Comes as no surprise that Jetsman is blind to it !! Some of the decisions had you scratching your head.Taking Caravella off and putting on Welsh, a central defender! Why not have put Flores on, taken Madaschi off, who had a shocker and put Welsh on.Taking Griff off and playing Chilli virtually as a 2nd fullback was a wasted substitution. Birraz, Regan and Kanta need to be “rested” and I’m sure the Jets sports science boys can come up with a few “injuries” when the truth isn’t suffice. There’s a lot more at play here, the coach has lost the dressing room.
Stephen (Herald Online) – “You’re kidding Jets management. This side would struggle in the local comp. We lack pace skill and football sense. What is happening at training we struggled with any form of stamina and finished well behind our opponents in fitness alone. The FFA needs to take over before a complete route takes place we have to get at least 4 A league level players into the squad otherwise 4-0 will look a good result. Players need to take a good look at themselves before they see their careers disappear in a flood of heavy defeats. Because if the jets collapse I could only see one or two of this squad getting a job at another club.”
COYJ (Herald Online) – “Brisbane scored more goals than Newcastle had shots, 4-3. For me that says it all. Definitely the worst performance I have ever seen from them. They’re damn lucky they’re playing away next week, or they’d be playing in front of nobody. Where to from here Stubby? A good portion of my optimism just evaporated I’m afraid.”
Mark Huckstepp (Facebook) – “Maybe retaining the good players is No. 1 priority, and if you have to let any go, have a plan to replace them with someone better. You can make a full team of former jets who are killing it with other clubs”
Emma-Jane Bertoncello (Facebook) – “They need to head out to Kahibah tomorrow & watch the young emerging jets teams play & take away with them some of the passion these young talented boys show everytime they are on the park. These boys are all honored to be selected to be part of the Emerging Jets program & play to the absolute best of their ability every single time they hit the field in their Jets gear. This is what we should be seeing every game by our A League team also.”
Jourdana Prior (Facebook) – “We need a decent coach for once!! He is the one who is expected to hold the team together and get the players actually playing. Last night was a disgrace but I think it proves a point. The jets have some of the most loyal supporters. We have had declining performances the past few seasons yet us fans still buy memberships each year in hopes of improvement. We are use to the bad results. But last night was to far, it was one of the worst games in A league history…and that says a lot!
Change the coach ASAP or forget having members next year. Nobody wants to pay to a couple of hundred bucks to be disappointed all the time.
Kaleni Fuller (Facebook) – “I know this will sound bizarre, but we played better under GVE. What’s with Flores and Geronimo? It seems like Stubbins has lost his players.”
Kurt Banks (Facebook) – “Simple, their shite! And to be honest after watching them last night it seems they don’t care either. That performance was quite frankly disgusting. A losing culture is a very hard thing to shake, the only way is to shake the whole place. It’s like anything that’s novocastrian, it needs to be novocastrian.”
Poxy Roxy (Facebook) – “I just think that all of the other A league teams have players of a higher calibre.”
