Το Δημοτικό Συμβούλιο Moreland αποδέχθηκε την πρόταση της Ελληνικής Κοινότητας Moreland.

Το Δημοτικό Συμβούλιο Moreland αποδέχθηκε την πρόταση της Ελληνικής Κοινότητας Moreland, η οποία πρότεινε να αναγερθεί, με δικά της έξοδα, το άγαλμα του θεού της αρχαιότητας Ποσειδώνα στο Coburg Lake Reserve.

Το άγαλμα του Θεού της θάλασσας θα είναι από μπρούτζο και θα έχει ύψος 2,5 μέτρων σύμφωνα με την πρόταση της τοπικής Ελληνικής Κοινότητας, την οποία και καταψήφισε μόνο ένας δημοτικός σύμβουλος.

Αναφερόμενος στο θέμα ο δήμαρχος του Δήμου Moreland, Λάμπρος Ταπεινός, δήλωσε στο «Νέο Κόσμο», ότι η πρόταση βρίσκεται στο πρώτο στάδιο και ακόμα δεν έχουν αποπερατωθεί τα σχέδια και το συγκεκριμένο μέρος που θα τοποθετηθεί.

«Πριν τελικά ο Δήμος δώσει το πράσινο φως για την ανέγερση θα πρέπει να μελετήσουμε προσεκτικά τα σχέδια για τις διαστάσεις του αγάλματος και να εγκρίνουμε το ακριβές μέρος που θα τοποθετηθεί» πρόσθεσε ο συμπάροικος δήμαρχος.

Η Ελληνική Κοινότητα Moreland, έκανε τη σχετική πρόταση είπε ότι θα αναλάβει τόσο τα έξοδα της κατασκευής και ανέγερσης του θεού της ελληνικής αρχαιότητας όσο και τη μετέπειτα συντήρησή του.

Συμπάροικος σερβίρει σουβλάκι στους δρόμους της Μελβούρνης και σε λίγες μέρες στους επισκέπτες της έκθεσης Good Food and Wine.

Η καντίνα με τα σουβλάκια της στην παραλία του Ρίο, λίγο πιο έξω από την Πάτρα ήταν, είναι και παραμένει μία από τις must εμπειρίες κάθε επίσκεψής μου στον τόπο που γεννήθηκα. Δεν περίμενα ποτέ, όμως, ότι εν έτει 2014 θα την συναντούσα στην ελληνοαυστραλιανή της εκδοχή, σε μία γωνιά της Μελβούρνης. Ούτε, βέβαια, ότι αυτή η καντίνα της Μελβούρνης με τα σουβλάκια της σε λίγες μέρες θα είναι μία από τις πέντε καντίνες που θα προσφέρουν αποκλειστικά φαγητό σε όσους επισκεφθούν την έκθεση Food & Wine της Μελβούρνης.

Ο ομογενής Γιώργος Καρανίκος, μέσα σε πέντε μήνες από τότε που δημιούργησε το κινητό του σουβλατζίδικο, την καντίνα Greek Street Food όπως την ονόμασε έχει καταφέρει όχι μόνο να κάνει χρυσές δουλειές αλλά και να κερδίσει μία από τις πρώτες θέσεις στον κατάλογο αξιολόγησης των κινητών εστιατορίων της Μελβούρνης. Και όπως όσοι ζουν στη Μελβούρνη γνωρίζουν… δεν είναι και λίγες. Το κινητό σουβλατζίδικο ταξιδεύει κάθε μέρα σε τρία προς το παρόν προάστια της πόλης, βάζει χειρόφρενο σε πάρκα και γωνιές κεντρικών δρόμων από το μεσημεράκι έως και τις 9.00 το βράδυ και σερβίρει αποκλειστικά και μόνο σουβλάκι. Και όπως μας λέει ο εμπνευστής του και ιδιοκτήτης Γιώργος Καρανίκος, οι δουλειές δεν πάνε απλώς καλά, αλλά πολύ, πολύ καλά.

ΕΔΩ ΤΟ ΚΑΛΟ ΣΟΥΒΛΑΚΙ

Ο Γιώργος μπορεί να είναι νέος αλλά σίγουρα δεν είναι άγνωστος στον χώρο της εστίασης στην Μελβούρνη. Μπήκε σ’ αυτόν πριν από 9 χρόνια όταν αγόρασε μέρισμα στο εστιατόριο Piraeus Blues. Η κούραση από τα ξενύχτια ήταν ο λόγος που ο Γιώργος άρχισε να δουλεύει στο μυαλό του την ιδέα του κινητού σουβλατζίδικου. «Δεν λέω είμαι ακόμα στο μαγαζί αλλά λιγότερες ώρες πλέον» μας λέει.

Η ιδέα του κινητού σουβλατζίδικου γεννήθηκε όμως και μέσα από την εμπειρία του Γιώργου στο εστιατόριο. «Είδα να αλλάζει και πιστεύω ότι αλλάζει καθημερινά ο τρόπος με τον οποίο ο πολύς κόσμος τρώει. Όλο και περισσότεροι προτιμούν τα μεζεδάκια από το παλιό κλασικό μενού των τριών πιάτων» αναφέρει και προσθέτει ότι η όλη «τελετουργία» εξόδου σε εστιατόριο έχει απλοποιηθεί και ο κόσμος υιοθετεί έναν πιο ανέμελο τρόπο εξόδου για φαγητό.
Το τόλμημα να αφήσει την άνεση της κουζίνας ενός εστιατορίου και να δημιουργήσει μία άλλη κουζίνα μέσα σε ένα φορτηγάκι αυτός τουλάχιστον δεν το θεωρεί καθόλου τόλμημα. «Χρειάστηκαν περίπου 12 μήνες να σχεδιάσω την καντίνα και να πάρω όλες τις σχετικές άδειες. Δεν μπορώ να πω ότι ήταν εύκολο αλλά ούτε και υπερβολικά δύσκολο. Από τη στιγμή που ακολουθείς τους κανονισμούς οι Δήμοι σου δίνουν εύκολα άδεια γιατί έχουν ήδη αρχίσει να διαπιστώνουν την μεγάλη επιτυχία που έχουν οι καντίνες».

Οφείλω να ομολογήσω ότι η καντίνα στο Ρίο και η καντίνα του Γιώργου στο Northcote το μόνο που κοινό που έχουν είναι ότι είναι καντίνες και σερβίρουν σουβλάκια γιατί από άποψη ποιότητας του προϊόντος, η καντίνα του Γιώργου είναι «ουρανούς» καλύτερη και αυτό δεν το επιβεβαιώνει μόνο η δική μου γευστική παλέτα αλλά και το πλήθος του κόσμου που ακολουθεί το φορτηγάκι του σχεδόν επί καθημερινής βάσης για να φάει το σουβλάκι του.
«Οι πελάτες μας είναι κάθε ηλικίας αλλά κυρίως νέοι άνθρωποι. Έχουμε πολλές οικογένειες που έρχονται κάθε εβδομάδα να αγοράσουν το σουβλάκι τους και έχουμε επίσης φροντίσει να κρατήσουμε τις τιμές σε χαμηλά επίπεδα ($8- $12) για να μπορούν όλοι ακόμα και οι συνταξιούχοι να έρθουν για φαγητό» λέει ο Γιώργος.

ΜΕ ΣΥΜΜΑΧΟ ΤΟ FACEBOOK

Ο Γιώργος Καρανίκος μπορεί να έχει καταφέρει να κερδίσει με το σουβλάκι του πολλούς… πεινασμένους, αλλά δεν χρειάστηκε ούτε μία φορά να διαφημίσει το κινητό του σουβλατζίδικο.

«Πιστεύω ότι ένα μεγάλο ποσοστό αυτών που έρχονται στην καντίνα προέρχεται από το Facebook. Πιστεύω περίπου ότι το 70% της πελατείας μας προέρχεται από τα μέσα κοινωνικής δικτύωσης καθώς μόνο εκεί ανακοινώνουμε που θα βρισκόμαστε και τις ώρες που θα λειτουργεί η καντίνα. Ο κόσμος μας ακολουθεί αυτό βλέπω εγώ. Έχουμε μερικούς περαστικούς αλλά και αυτούς που άκουσαν από φίλους τους για το σουβλάκι μας και έρχονται και αυτοί να το δοκιμάσουν.

Προσθέτει ότι εκείνο που του έχει κάνει εντύπωση είναι και η διαφήμιση που του κάνουν οι Έλληνες της περιοχής του Northcote, του Coburg αλλά και άλλων περιοχών απ’ όπου περνά με την καντίνα του. «Μερικές φορές περνώ μπροστά από καφετέριες ελληνικές στο Northcote και πολλοί συμπάροικοι που πίνουν τον καφέ τους εκεί χαιρετούν, φωνάζουν μπράβο, γεια σου και άλλα τέτοια. Πραγματικά ενθουσιάζονται. Ενώ είναι και πολλοί άλλοι συμπάροικοι που μας διαφημίζουν στους φίλους και τους γνωστούς τους» αναφέρει. «Μετά αναλαμβάνουμε και εκδηλώσεις οπότε μας γνωρίζουν όλο και περισσότεροι» προσθέτει.

Όπως κάθε δουλειά του… δρόμου έτσι και αυτή υποθέτω ότι έχει και τις προκλήσεις της όσον αφορά το θέμα της ασφάλειας. «Όχι με τη δική μας καντίνα. Εμένα δουλεύουν εκεί η γυναίκα μου και τα παιδιά μου και μέχρι στιγμής δεν έχουμε αντιμετωπίσει προβλήματα. Είναι βέβαια και το γεγονός ότι η καντίνα μένει ανοικτή μέχρι το πολύ τις 9.00 το βράδυ οπότε το πελατολόγιό μας δεν είναι ο κόσμος που κυκλοφορεί αργότερα».

ΣΤΟ GOOD FOOD & WINE SHOW

Το επόμενο Σαββατοκύριακο το σουβλατζίδικο του Γιώργου θα κάνει την πρώτη του επίσημη εμφάνιση. Στον εκθεσιακό χώρο του Melbourne Convention Centre μαζί με άλλες πέντε καντίνες που σερβίρουν άλλου είδους κουζίνες, θα ταΐζει όσους επισκεφθούν την έκθεση Good Food & Wine.
«Για εμάς είναι μεγάλη επιτυχία το γεγονός ότι ανάμεσα στις τόσες καντίνες που υπάρχουν στην Μελβούρνη επέλεξαν την δική μας και ελπίζω να πάνε όλα καλά» μας λέει ο Γιώργος.

Αυτά για το άμεσο μέλλον του κινητού του σουβλατζίδικου γιατί στα προσεχή σχέδια του Γιώργου, δεν υπάρχει ένα αλλά πολλά κινητά σουβλατζίδικα που ελπίζει ότι σε λίγα χρόνια θα «τσικνίζουν» σε πολλά προάστια της Μελβούρνης.

Australian MPs reinforce Greece’s stance on the Australian political landscape.

Thirty two Australian members of parliament have nominated themselves to be in the Australia-Greece Parliamentary Group, as part of the Inter-Parliamentary Union’s friendship groups with other countries.

The group is chaired by Nickolas Varvaris with Maria Vamvakinou as vice chair, and includes MPs such as: Anthony Albanese, Tanya Plibersek; Bronwyn Bishop, and Brendan O’Conner to name a few.

“It reflects the importance of the Greek community to the political class,” Ms Vamvakinou tells Neos Kosmos of the high-standing Australian MPs who have nominated themselves to be in this group.

She says that many MPs choose to join this group because they either have a Greek background, or they have Greek constituencies and want to be more involved in Greek issues.

“The bilateral relationship between Australia and Greece, if you talk about trade and what it’s worth in terms of dollars is small,” she explains, “but its social and political capital is up there with some big groups like the United Kingdom and Israel.”

The Greek parliament also has an equivalent to this group, and Ms Vamvakinou – who has been a member of this group since she became an MP – says it opens a friendly forum between the two nations. In the past, Ms Vamvakinou would visit Greece with the group to discuss issues impacting on both nations.
So far, the group has met with both visiting Greek ministers – with the most recent visit resulting in the signing of the MoU on the reciprocal work and holiday visas between both countries – but Ms Vamvakinou says she envisages and hopes the group will become more active in the promotion of contemporary Greek issues through forums and functions, working alongside the consulate to achieve these goals.

Ms Vamvakinou recently met with THEON sensors president Christian Hadjiminas on his recent trip to Australia to promote his company and develop a facility in Victoria manufacturing high tech products, showcasing innovation from the Hellenic Republic. She looks at this company as a perfect example of what the group could do to change the current negative narrative being spoken about Greece, and showcase that the country has successful companies in innovation and excellence.

“HACCI would be a good group to bring to Canberra where they can talk to the group about trade between the two countries. So there are lots of things that can be done,” she adds.

“There are things we can do to allow Greek business people to come to Canberra and introduce them to members of parliament; that’s why the people have joined the friendship group as it’s an opportunity for them to have that contact with the Greek state or even the broader Greek community here.”

Ms Vamvakinou is also a member of the Australia-Cyprus Parliamentary Group that is part of the Western Asian region. Greece is part of the Southern European region. In order for a country to have their own friendship group they must have in excess of 20 members, and if they don’t they fall under their region. There are no set meetings however, Ms Vamvakinou says they meet purely on necessity and to discuss any new ideas. She says it’s not only important for members of the Greek and wider community of Australia to know about this forum, but to also contribute any ideas.

“The fact that [Greece] exists as a stand alone group, with so many members, is a reflection on the Greek community to the political landscape in Canberra.”

Falling by straight sets against Milos Raonic, Australia’s Nick Kyrgios is out of the French Open.

Australia’s Nick Kyrgios was bundled out of the first round of the French Open in straight sets by Milos Raonic on Sunday (AEST), while Roger Federer, Serena Williams and Agnieszka Radwanska eased through to the second round.

Raonic made light work of the 19-year-old Kyrgios, winning the match 6-3, 7-6 (7/1), 6-3 in two hours.

The Canadian won the opening set in 36 minutes before the young Australian put up more of a fight in the second and was unlucky not to level to the match at 1-1.

While the pair were level at 2-2 in the third set, Raonic quickly took control of the game from that point.

Fourth-seeded Federer clinched a record-equalling 59th win as he breezed past world number 87 Lukas Lacko.

The 2009 champion eased to a 6-2, 6-4, 6-2 win to kick off his 16th consecutive Roland Garros campaign with a comfortable victory.

His 59 career wins at the tournament have him level with eight-time champion Rafael Nadal and set up a second-round clash with Diego Sebastian Schwartzman.

Aussie superstar Hugh Jackman talks exclusively to Neos Kosmos about his proud Greek heritage.

When Australian superstar, Hugh Jackman, returned to his homeland for the Melbourne premiere of his last movie X-men: Days of Future Past last Friday, local media and fans flooded Melbourne Central station to meet and greet the down-to-earth star.

Who would have thought that, in all that red carpet chaos, when you introduce yourself to Hugh Jackman as a Greek Australian newspaper journalist, his reaction would be: “You know that I am one eighth Greek?”

Despite previous articles that stated Jackman’s Greek heritage, the star’s reaction and enthusiasm caught this journalist in awe and disbelief, as well as the surrounding media colleagues.

Jackman was all smiles while confirming to Neos Kosmos that he has Greek roots.

“Did you know that? Yes, it’s true that I am one eighth Greek,” the actor told Neos Kosmos.

Jackman was surprising in how much knowledge he had of his Greek connection, identifying the family surname and the island from which they came.
“The family surname was Bellas. My great-grandfather, from my father’s side, was Greek.

“It was an island, I think Ios, is that right?”

Though he has visited Greece before, Hugh told Neos Kosmos he hasn’t been to the island of his predecessors yet, but is ready to finally visit and track his roots.
“I have not been there yet, but my dad and his brother used to go a lot.

“I’m ready to go back,” he said.

Hugh’s paternal grandmother, Glory Margaret Bellas, was a daughter of Nicholas Isidor Bellas and Dora Bellas, née Furniss.

The Melbourne premiere of X-men, sponsored by technology company TCL, was one of seven world premieres that featured the movie cast.
It was also a charity night for the Fight Cancer Foundation, of which Jackman is an ambassador.

The actor himself had recently had a carcinoma removed from his nose, with the healing wound visible at the Melbourne red carpet.

Chinese actress Fan Bingbing was also present at the premiere, as well as Peter Dinklage, best known as Tyrion Lannister in Game of Thrones.

Once the frenetic red carpet was over, the most famous (Greek) Australian, the Hollywood star Hugh Jackman proved he’s not too big to catch public transport to a television studio.

He left Melbourne Central on the train to South Yarra.

X-Men: Days of Future Past opened in cinemas on Thursday, 22 May.

Μαζική εισβολή τουρκικών πλοίων στο κεντρικό Αιγαίο σημειώθηκε την Δευτέρα (26/05), σημαίνοντας συναγερμό στις αρμόδιες ελληνικές αρχές.

Πιο συγκεκριμένα, η φρεγάτα Kemal Reis και οι πυραυλάκατοι Meltem, Imbat, Ruzgar και Firtina από τις πρώτες πρωινές ώρες της Δευτέρας μέχρι τις 16:00, έκαναν “βόλτα” στις Κυκλάδες, κινούμενα βορείως της Νάξου, νοτίως της Πάρου και απομακρύνθηκαν ανατολικά της Σαντορίνης.

Τα προαναφερόμενα τουρκικά πλοία συμμετέχουν στην άσκηση Beyaz Firtina 2014, ωστόσο κινήθηκαν εκτός των περιοχών που έχουν δεσμευτεί και μπήκαν στα ελληνικά χωρικά ύδατα.

Αμέσως κινητοποιήθηκαν ελληνικά πολεμικά πλοία και αεροσκάφη, τα οποία παρακολουθούσαν και συνόδευαν τα τουρκικά πλοία.

Να σημειωθεί ότι η Τουρκία έχει δεσμεύσει δύο περιοχές στο κεντρικό Αιγαίο, ανατολικά των Κυκλάδων για τη διεξαγωγή της συγκεκριμένης άσκησης.

The Socceroos played out a 1-1 draw with a second-string South Africa at Sydney’s Olympic stadium on Monday night in their final match on home soil before departing for the World Cup in Brazil.

Australia showed plenty of attacking intent early on but was caught on the break as Ayanda Patosi side-footed home South Africa’s opener against the run of play.

The Socceroos responded immediately as Tim Cahill exploited poor defending to nod home the equaliser less than a minute later.

But Australia failed to make its chances pay as a resilient South Africa created several chances of its own, before closing out a 1-1 draw.

There was an injury worry to trouble coach Ange Postecoglou as right-back Ivan Franjic hobbled off with an ankle injury, while Cahill was subbed off on the hour mark to preserve fitness.

The event was capped off with a farewell to the Socceroos, who are set to cut their World Cup squad from 30 players down to 27, before jetting off to Brazil later this week.

Australian forward Mathew Leckie was at the centre of a number of chances, forcing a rushed clearance from goalkeeper Senzo Meyiwa in the second half before breaking down the right to lash the ball across the face of goal.

Leckie described the match as a good hit-out, saying the team has some time to work on its finishing and fitness.

He said it was good to be given a chance to dominate possession, but the team will need to take its chances against more illustrious opposition in Brazil.

“South Africa was a good tough team tonight. We had a lot of chances today but the ball just wouldn’t go in, and we’ll work harder on that for our first game against Chile,” he told Granstand.

“I think it’s nice if you’ve always got the ball and dominating, it’s always better in an attacking sense. Hopefully we can take that into the World Cup, try to get the ball a lot and create a lot of chances.

“Hopefully we can be more clinical and put our chances away next time.

“We wanted to keep the ball, play out and be confident. I think we did it [well] at times and [later] we were tired and lacked a bit. It’s a mixture of things, trying to keep the ball and also play on the counter-attack.

“We’ve got a couple more weeks to get some extra fitness. I was feeling it a bit the last 15 minutes, but I think we’ll definitely be ready to go against Chile.”

After an encouraging start which saw Australia dominate the opening exchanges, decreasing energy levels saw the match degenerate into a scrappy affair.

Most chances came from scrambles in the box, with Mark Milligan smacking a shot harmlessly wide.

There were worries on the sidelines as Franjic, tipped to be Australia’s first-choice right-back in Brazil, hobbled off with an lower-leg complaint after landing awkwardly in an aerial contest.

Ben Halloran, who came on for Cahill, broke down the right wing before playing it short to substitute Dario Vidosic, but the striker’s touch was awful and the chance was spurned.

South Africa responded with a shot over the bar by Thulani Caleb Serero, before Halloran responded with a shot straight at the keeper from outside the box.

Oliver Bozanic then saw his header off a Luke Wilkshere cross dip agonisingly wide late on.

The first half started in fast and furious fashion as the Socceroos opened up the visitors a number of times down the right flank.

But it would be South Africa that opened the scoring against the run of play after Tokelo Rantie created panic in the Australian area, allowing for Patosi to sidefoot home on the 13th minute.

The lead would last mere seconds as Australia fashioned an immediate response, with Cahill nodding in from close range following poor South African defending.

Tommy Oar had enjoyed two sizzling shots from distance beforehand, and Milligan looked to test the keeper from outside the box shortly after Cahill’s opener, but the visitors’ defence managed to hold firm through to half-time.

With the final match on home soil out of the way, Leckie promised the Socceroos would be working hard to do the fans proud in Brazil.

“This is the big one, the World Cup, we’re always focused and working hard,” he told Grandstand.

“It’s great to come back to Australia and have the fans behind us, and hopefully we’ll have a lot watching when we’re playing in the World Cup and we can do them proud.”

Η εκλογική μάχη της Κυριακής ήταν η τρίτη κατά σειρά που η Χρυσή Αυγή δεν κρατάει απλώς τις δυνάμεις της, αλλά τις βλέπει να αυξάνουν.

Οπως αναφέρει και το Εθνος σε σχετικό άρθρο, βάσει των μέχρι τώρα αποτελεσμάτων μπορεί η Χρυσή Αυγή να μην κατέγραψε διψήφιο ποσοστό, όπως προσδοκούσε ή όπως κατέγραφαν πολλές δημοσκοπήσεις, ωστόσο η αύξηση των ποσοστών της είναι ραγδαία και αξιοσημείωτη.
Να σκεφτεί κανείς πως στις Ευρωεκλογές του 2009 είχε πάρει ποσοστό 0,46% (!), κάτι που σημαίνει πως μέσα σε πέντε χρόνια ανέβασε κατακόρυφα την επιρροή της καταγράφοντας άλλες εννιά μονάδες στις τάξεις της.

Η ακροδεξιά οργάνωση σημείωσε νέα άνοδο σε σχέση με τις εθνικές εκλογές του 2012 (είχε πάρει 6,92%) και τις αυτοδιοικητικές την προηγούμενη εβδομάδα.
Στην εκλογική περιφέρεια Α’ Αθηνών έλαβε ποσοστό 10,44% και στη Β’ Αθηνών 8,31%, σημειώνοντας σε σχέση με τις εκλογές του 2012 – άνοδο 2,56% και 1,90% αντίστοιχα. Στην περιφέρεια Αττικής που την περασμένη Κυριακή ο Ηλ. Παναγιώταρος πήρε ποσοστό 11% η Χρυσή Αυγή σημείωσε νέα άνοδο φτάνοντας το 12,20% και σε σχέση με τις εκλογές του 2012 η άνοδος αγγίζει το 2,2%.

Οι πολύπαθες γειτονιές της Α’ και Β’ Πειραιώς έδωσαν ποσοστά 10,19% και 11,34%, προκαλώντας ανατριχίλα σε κάθε δημοκρατικό πολίτη. Είναι η εκλογική περιφέρεια που ανήκουν οι περιοχές της Νίκαιας, του Περάματος και του Κερατσινίου, όπου δολοφονήθηκε ο Φύσσας και ξυλοκοπήθηκαν άγρια τα μέλη του ΠΑΜΕ από χρυσαυγίτες. Σ’ αυτές τις γειτονιές, που άλλοτε αποτελούσαν κάστρα της Αριστεράς, τα ποσοστά της ΧΑ ανέβηκαν κατά δύο ποσοστιαίες μονάδες, σε σχέση με τις εκλογές του 2012.

Παράλληλα, η άνοδος κατά 3,47% και 4,21% στις εκλογικές περιφέρειες της Α’ και Β’ Θεσσαλονίκης αποτελεί πρόκληση πρώτου μεγέθους για την πόλη που πλήρωσε τη ναζιστική θηριωδία με το αίμα 50.000 Ελλήνων εβραϊκής καταγωγής.

Το φαινόμενο… ΓΑΔΑ

Σε «μαύρα κάστρα» της Χρυσής Αυγής αναδεικνύονται τα εκλογικά κέντρα όπου ψηφίζουν οι ένστολοι. Πρόκειται για τις ειδικές λίστες των ετεροδημοτών αστυνομικών και στρατιωτικών, καθώς και των υπόλοιπων εκπροσώπων των Σωμάτων Ασφαλείας που ψήφισαν για τις ευρωεκλογές εκεί όπου υπηρετούν.
Πιο συγκεκριμένα, στα εκλογικά τμήματα γύρω από τη ΓΑΔΑ το φασιστικό μόρφωμα συγκεντρώνει διψήφια ποσοστά. Το χαμηλότερο ποσοστό είναι το 8,91% στο 816 τμήμα, ενώ το μεγαλύτερο στο 811, όπου η ΧΑ αναδείχθηκε σε δεύτερη δύναμη με 17,34%. Εκεί όμως που η φασιστική οργάνωση εκτοξεύεται σε ποσοστά είναι στα εκλογικά τμήματα που λειτούργησαν στο 17ο Δημοτικό Σχολείο Αθηνών, στην οδό Αμπελακίων. Τα περισσότερα αποτελέσματα από αυτά που είχαν ενσωματωθεί μέχρι το βράδυ της Κυριακής έφερναν τη ΧΑ δεύτερη δύναμη (μετά τη ΝΔ), όπως π.χ. με 23,77% στο 1025 τμήμα, 22,73% στο 1018 και 19,63% στο 1019.

Τρίτη δύναμη

Δεν είναι μόνο οι ψήφοι των ενστόλων υπέρ της φασιστικής παράταξης. Από τις 56 εκλογικές περιφέρειες στις οποίες χωρίζεται η ελληνική επικράτεια σε περισσότερες από τις μισές αναδείχθηκε τρίτη πολιτική δύναμη η Χρυσή Αυγή.
Συγκεκριμένα, σε 29 περιφέρειες της χώρας περίπου ένας στους δέκα ψήφισε νεοναζί. Σε ποσοστό ενσωμάτωσης 42%, τα υψηλότερα ποσοστά της η ΧΑ κατέγραφε στον Νομό Λακωνίας (15,59%), στο Κιλκίς (13,16%), στην Πέλλα (12,97%), στην Ημαθία (12,86%) και στην Καστοριά (12,27%). Τα χαμηλότερα ποσοστά του φασιστικού μορφώματος καταγράφηκαν για ακόμη μία φορά στην Κρήτη, όπου στο Ηράκλειο πήρε 4,21%, στο Λασίθι 3,54%, στο Ρέθυμνο 4,08% και στα Χανιά 6,43%. Προπύργια δημοκρατίας υπάρχουν σε πολλά ακόμη μέρη, όπου οι πολίτες γύρισαν την πλάτη τους στις σβάστικες της ΧΑ.

Το αποτέλεσμα των ευρωεκλογών σχολιάζει ο γερμανικός τύπος, εστιάζοντας μεταξύ άλλων στις επιτυχίες των ευρωσκεπτικιστικών κομμάτων σε πολλές χώρες της Ευρώπης και του ΣΥΡΙΖΑ στην Ελλάδα.

Όπως διευκρινίζει στην περίπτωση του προβληματικού παιδιού που λέγεται Ελλάδα, το αποτέλεσμα σημαίνει ότι κινδυνεύει άμεσα η πορεία εξυγίανσης. Κι αυτό επειδή, στα μάτια των Ελλήνων, η ΕΕ τους έχει επιβαρύνει υπερβολικά.

Στην περίπτωση της γειτονικής μας Γαλλίας, το αποτέλεσμα παραπέμπει σε χρόνια αβεβαιότητας όσον αφορά την πορεία που θα ακολουθήσει. Είναι άγνωστο πώς ένας σοσιαλιστής πρόεδρος μπορεί να καταφέρει να μείνει επί μακρόν στο αξίωμά του όταν το κόμμα του έχει σημειώσει μετά βίας διψήφιο εκλογικό αποτέλεσμα».

Για το ίδιο θέμα, η Hannoversche Allgemeine Zeitung σχολιάζει: «Σε όλη την γηραιά ήπειρο, οι ψηφοφόροι παρουσιάζουν νέες αβεβαιότητες, που οφείλονται στην ραγδαία μεταβαλλόμενη ευρωπαϊκή σκηνή. Οι δημοκρατικές κοινωνίες οφείλουν, όμως, να μιλούν για αυτές τις αβεβαιότητες. Η Ευρώπη δεν επιτρέπεται να συμπεριφέρεται σε δεξιούς λαϊκιστές και ακραίους ωσάν να επρόκειτο για “γκουρού“. Θα πρέπει να τους απομυθοποιήσει. Δεν είναι όλοι όσοι στέλνονται εκεί άξιοι για το επίπεδο ενός Ευρωπαϊκού Κοινοβουλίου», επισημαίνει η γερμανική εφημερίδα.

A relatively unknown Greek Brazilian will join the ranks of the Greek World Cup team, showing Santos prefers local knowledge and versatility.

Versatile players and those with a bit of local knowledge have been picked to lead Greece into their third World Cup group stage.

Utility players, Loukas Vyntra and Costas Katsouranis have been singled out by coach Fernando Santos in his 23-man squad selection this week providing much needed versatility on the pitch.

“Vyntra and Katsouranis can also respond to the challenges of playing as central defenders,” said Santos, explaining why he has only chosen three central defenders.

“This enhances the cohesion between the team’s lines, instead of just calling up some more defenders.”

In the midfield, interchangeable players Andreas Samaris and Panayiotis Tachtsidis will also become useful to Santos.

The most famous of the lot, Kostas Mitroglou did make the final cut, while Celtic’s Giorgos Samaras and PAOK’s Dimitirs Salpingidis will make up the goal
scoring striking side.

Santos picked his 23 quite early for the World Cup coaches, preferring to make the best of training with the players. He will still have until June 3 to make changes if players don’t meet expectations or get injured.

Surprisingly, Stefanos Athanasiadis and defender Avraam Papadopoulos didn’t make the final cut, but might be the first ones to be called up if anything goes wrong.

One pick that did raise eyebrows was the inclusion of 33-year-old Manos Sergios.

Sergios is a part-time player at amateur team APE Antirriou in western Greece, who was born in Brazil to Greek parents.

He has played as a midfielder for a number of amateur clubs in Brazil and in Greece, and admitted he was taken aback by the Santos announcement.

“I still cannot believe it. When [Greece team manager Takis] Fyssas called me last night to inform me about me being invited to the national team, I was
sure he was having me on. I was actually at work and I almost passed out,” Sergios said this week.

The completely unknown part-timer was dubbed a “huge player” by Santos, with the Portuguese coach showing a rare smile on his face.

His local knowledge will be useful as the team trains in Brazil, but moreover, he will most likely become a media darling in the South American country. He’ll be able to promote the best of Greece while lapping up the chance to play on home soil.

Greece will play a friendly against Portugal on May 31 and then participate in the ‘Road to Brazil’ international tournament in the United States, taking on Nigeria in Chester, Pennsylvania on 3 June before heading to New Jersey to play Bolivia.
